Help me find a natural sapphire under 2k!

I know it has a window but I am weirdly attracted to this stone. But why is it so cheap??

This one isn't great. It has a huge window, will be very dark in real life (the vendor is flooding the light with stone to make it look better), and has color zoning which I expect won't do it any favors. It won't be impressive IRL.

I found two more, in a cushion style on Etsy. Both are unfortunately only 8.75mm but figured they were still worth sharing.

This one is a lovely light shade, and looks pretty clear and sparkly!

This guy is a bit darker and seems almost a bit silvery in color, and is scattered with some little inclusions but I doubt they'd be visible from a distance.

This is probably all the researching I'll do for tonight... it's getting late and I have an early start tomorrow!

The first one is promising. The second will be grey IRL I think.

That is one pretty stone! I also quite like the hint of purple!

Okay, just with a cursory glance I've compiled a few options:

I found this lovely rectangular sapphire on Earth's Treasury. It's only 8mm but I figured it most fit the shape in your original photo that I thought it was worth sharing.

On GemFix I found a few as well!

This one would be at the tippy top of your budget, but it is 9mm!

This one is 8.7mm, so just shy of 9mm but it does kind of remind me of the blueish-purple stone pic you posted!

This one is only 8.4 but it is a nice vibrant mid-blue.

Off of Etsy, here is a batch:

These two are lighter ovals, and also 9mm

Also Etsy. These two are a smidge darker, the first is 9.2mm and the latter is 8.97

Figured this is a decent variety to start with, but there are lots of other places I can look!

I really like the earths treasury option!!!! It's a lovely color. OP: I would seriously consider that one if I were you.

@ean here's one from gemfix that's amazing IMHO. It's smaller than your ideal size, but the color and shape are spot on. https://gemfix.com/gems/sapphire-blue-11-1199

And here's one that's a totally different color but it's fairly big and really pretty. Just not the dark blue you were originally looking at. https://gemfix.com/gems/sapphire-blue-11-1167

A longshot, but color and cut look reasonable - any chance a pear would work?

What do we think of this one? Cheap enough and 10X7

I’ve got a few for you!

I uploaded videos to Youtube from Gemocean...

Sapphire #1 VIDEO A | VIDEO B
2.08 (8.7x6.88x4.5mm), royal blue, heated, clean stone $1825

Sapphire #2 VIDEO A | VIDEO B
2.05 cushion (8.25x6.5x3.9mm), royal blue, heated, 95% clean, $1900

Sapphire #3 VIDEO A | VIDEO B
2.52 oval (9.10x6.8x4.72mm), royal blue, heated, clean stone, $1850

I honestly think the cushion (sapphire 2) is really a beautiful, rich color. I like the first oval too, but wondered if the shape is too chubby for your design. I would take a vibrant deep blue for <1mm any day personally, but that is just me!

These are amazing stones!!! Thank you!!! My untrained eye ofourse gravitates to the biggest one. Lol

I think it is pretty - but I personally am not a fan of the color zoning but that is just my preference! Of the US vendors - the earth's treasury one stands out to me like @lovedogs mentioned.

You should go with what you like! I think they are all very pretty! I tend to prefer more "velvety" over "glassy" looking material if that makes sense. It all boils down to personal preference. If you like them - I'd reach out to him! He will know who you are :) - just tell him your friend asked about sapphires for you

Ahhh. Yes! Velvety is the right word. Those ovals are really something! I might jump the gun on number 3. In terms of buying stones from overseas, do you know if I have to pay duties once it reaches US?

I didn't pay duties personally. However shipping is an added cost - it is not included in pricing. I wish I could remember how much I paid but something tells me it was $100 or less but I can't make guarantees....

He can tell you the price and works with someone who specializes in shipping overseas if you would like to buy it (he works with a lot of overseas clients)

***Edit - I was able to ship Fedex which was very comforting. DHL is also reliable too in my experience

I messaged him about number 3. SO excited!!! I can't thank you enough!

That makes sense (RE shipping) - I swear I couldn't recall what mine cost for the life of me. It could have easily been $200 or more...

I think mine took 1.5 weeks...it was at peak chaos for COVID and it was during Sri Lanka's lockdown....but it made it safe and sound!

I got a 2.56 carat vivid blue (not really a royal blue - can't remember what the cert said) sapphire. I took it into loooots of different lighting environments. Keep in mind- he lives in a tropical region with very intense sun.... whereas I live in the midwest where it is dreary and overcast half the year! HAH! You will notice it has many different personalities and changes a lot in different lighting

You will see - my 3rd pic in particular - artificial light at night or 4th in the shade of bright sunlight indoors - not flattering light. These are my stone at is worst

Beautiful!! How are you setting it?

:dance:Yaaaay @ean , I knew Gemocean would have something that fit the bill!
If I had any money at all, it's where I'd go! I'm super excited to see it when it gets here.

*@Cerulean Those choices! Someday I'm going to ask you to be an official emissary.:praise:

You know I would be MORE than happy to help when that day comes! He really has a great selection to suit all budgets and doesn't post all of his inventory. So glad he had something that worked out!

@Cerulean May I ask how you paid? Did you do a wire transfer through your bank? I've been trying to do it online because there is just no way I'm going to my bank physically with this pandemic going on. Sigh.

Hmmm. I paid with PayPal - but I don't think that is standard and I am not sure if he will be able to do it again - I paid a colleague of his, he doesn't have an account. There are weird embargos w/ receiving $ with PayPal in Sri Lanka....it was a leap of faith.

I would honestly just call your bank and see if they can help you!

Unfortunately he said the only way he'll receive payment is through a bank transfer. With shipping and bank fees it will be close to $2.2K, sigh.

Ah gotcha - there were fees w/ PayPal too if it is any consolation...hope it still is manageable for you!

Called my bank today and they said I can only do it in person. Boo!!! I’ll have to wait until I’m off on Saturday to do the transfer. Anyway, I requested some more pictures/videos today and here they are. What do we think?
