SO I went back to FAO jewelers and decided to go with the Tiffany style solitude ring.

for both rings-- (included mount and everything replacement for life ie) I WONT DO ONLINE SITES!!!! has to be in store only.

I narrowed it down to 2 Diamonds to fit into it.
For $5550

GIA- 6157090181 .92 , I color, VS1, and very good cut
Polish Ex, Sym, excellent, fluoro -none
Crystal cloud, pinpoint

OR

GIA 1127590550 $5400

.80, Color E, vs2 cut very good
polish very good, sym- very good fluoro-none
feather,crystal, cloud

MY thoughts- size vs color and clarity .8- .92 its a solitude ring!
Help me decide.

Please don't settle for very good cut. Can your jeweler show you excellent cut stones?

I saw the excellent stones I couldn't see a difference. Also excellent stones brought down the color, clarity.

Sure its ideal/excellent cut but the quality is s2 or s1 with a I color with fl, polish goes down, symmetry etc.

I dont have a budget for Excellent excellent excellent unless i get a .5 car diamond

I don't know what to tell you. Are you sure you don't want to buy online? Do you live close to NYC?

NO. You are wrong.

You DO have the budget for an excellent diamond. Just not at the overpriced jeweler you are shopping at.

For the love. I've FOUND diamonds for you with excellent cut and ideal light return that are in budget.

Pearlmans can call them in for you! They are only a 1.5 hour drive.

They can get this EXACT diamond in for you. And match the price! http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.90-carat-j-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-283809 And they can get in LOVELY settings for you too. And have a TON in stock in the store too. You can see it before you buy and everything. IN PERSON!

They are in Battle Creek. Well worth it. Here is their website: http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/information/contact-pearlmans-jewelers/

The first diamond is too deep and the crown angle to large. The second diamond the crown angle is too large. Neither of thesse stones will have optimal brillance.....Cut is king.

We know that you want to purchase from B& M so just have them continue to bring in stones until you find one that is 3X or ideal cut.

You can't tell the difference in looking at the shape . But when you purchase an ideal cut stone no matter where you are or what type of lightening the brilliance will shine. The stones you have listed will be flat in many lighting situations.

The clarity is only important to be eye clean which means you aren't looking at an y imperfections at 6" from your face. The color is a personal preference as to how much color you can tolerate.

CUT IS KING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oy Vey you get what you pay for and if you did buy an ideal cut from a chain store you'd get what you pay for their employees their, trade name, the patent for them to use the Tolskovsky name etc.

This is why PS purchase from on line vendors many of which have B&M facilities. But you are paying for the diamonds and not their advertising and mall space...Plus you get so much more to choose from. Also most employees at these chain stores are only minimally trained in real diamond beyond the 4 C...................

Ditto everything Gypsy said. You can get a 0.8-0.9 G-I VS2/SI1 within your budget.

Numbers on this one are very nice - my favourite sorts of numbers for a GIA, actually. No red flags on the report. Usually GIA VG is a no-go but stones with numbers like this are the rare exception. Definitely worth looking into further/seeing in-person again.

ETA: I have to qualify that - date of report indicates it's probably a trade in, you will want to get independent confirmation that the stone is still in exactly the condition represented on the report.

Went to Kay jewelers too and saw some IDEAL cuts. They are nice. I agree but for the size its smaller. I don't really want a J color diamond either.

You saw them under jewelers lights. Those lights equalize performance. Crappy diamonds look great.

Diamonds are worn. And in all different lighting situations. They are almost always dirty. You DO need ideal cut. Otherwise one week out of the box the thing will be duller than you can imagine and not sparkle. Unless you want your lady to clean it every day...

Kay is over priced. TERRIBLY so. So is the jeweler you are shopping at.

I'm giving you a local place. If you want higher color, great! They can find you that too. Seriously. You are spending over FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. You should be buying the best you can for you money. You lady deserves the best you can get her.

If you were buying a car, wouldn't you listen to people who KNOW cars and drive 1.5 hours to go see a dealer they recommend who can get you a better deal? Of course you would. This is no different.

Okay then, get this one. Yssie says you've found the one in a million very good worth taking a second look at, and she know what she's talking about.

I still recommend Pearlmans though. Worth your time and the drive.

She's not listening the stones she knows best.....I think we are wasting our breath.

ssalerno, listen to Gypsy and plan to go to Pearlman's. Your pickings are going to be slim buying locally so there's just no point in nitpicking over rounding and bias - the 0.8ct E is the better of your two options, no question, but that doesn't mean you should necessarily limit yourself to only two options. Buy the 0.8 E if you like it, and also go to Pearlman's. Talk to them about settings options. There is tremendous value in working with a trusted and vetted (local!) jeweller.

Seriously.

This is what he could get in Battle Creek at Pearlman's Jewelers. A BEAUDRY in platinum! With an H color GIA Ex. Still he's sticking to his overpriced jeweler. :nono:

If you do end up at Pearlman's, check out this setting. Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but worth looking at, as it is a ridiculous deal:

Oh wow. That is a fabulous deal. Platinum! And three stones, pave and vintage details. Just perfect for her taste! Stick a stone like this in it: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.80-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-283333 In budget and amazing! Pearlmans can call that stone in for you. H color and eyeclean and excellent cut and proportions.

She told you she wanted a diamond setting.

Any of these suit the styles you said are in her pinterest page:

I just don't understand. Isn't the woman you want to spend the rest of your life with worth a little extra effort?

You have the E VS stone, leave it on hold. Then go to Pearlmans. What have you got to lose? If you still want the E in the Tiffany setting, you can go and get it.

You are getting opinions from some experts here.

You are a smart man for consulting well-informed people on this issue. Keep being smart and listen to what they say.

Kay jewelers bleghh. +1 to visiting Pearlman's at less than 2 hours away. Good luck!

Just responding to the size portion, did you ask your girlfriend? I have a small finger but I still like a bigger stone. I would ask her if size matters, for some it doesn't and some it does.
