Hi folks! First time diamond buyer. Holy heck am I going crazy! This all started with a friend taking me to a jeweler to see a rock. Im a detail oriented person and I didnt know anything about diamonds. I just knew what I was looking at wasnt right.
Two weeks later and I've ordered an Ideal as well as an ASET scope. I've been burning my eyelids off reading and going around jewelry stores as well as shopping online.
It is so damn hard to find the most exact cut. The most I've come up so far are these few options for my pricepoint. Please let me know what you think.
PS, I am loving this whole journey though. I'm a mechanical engineer, so it's been fun learning about cut geometry, inclusions, etc. to achieve optimal light reflection. It's like being back in school, although, hard as hell without having fine samples to compare things to!

Judging by the ASET scope image, the neck of the arrows are exhibiting a bit of blend with green, which indicates light leakage? Again, I'm a complete noob, but would like an opinion nonetheless :)

The ASET image, the center circle is also exhibiting a blend of green with blue, which also indicates this gem is of lesser cut quality than the link above? There's also dark spots around the center from what might be inclusions?

The center on the ASET image has different shades of green, now this is something I haven't figured out yet but different color shading should mean it should be a concern as well, even if it's the same color, according to what I've read?

Again peeps, call me a noob, I am one! Just trying to do some homework before pulling the trigger here. My lady is a former Miss Universe with a heart of gold. I could put a rock I found at the park and she'd be happy with that. But... she deserves much more than that so I'm willing to go the distance for the ideal rock for the budget we have.

Thank you in advance for all the help and I've truly enjoyed going through this forum and reading up about diamonds this past few weeks. It's been a blast! A nerve racking one but a fun one nonetheless.

Happy Holidays!

Going into a bit more depth. It seems like the base of the arrows of all 3 diamonds are not geometrically ideal.

I think most people will tell you that you can't go wrong with an ACA. Plus, WF has a great upgrade policy in case you ever want to utilize it.

To my eye, the 2.018 looks like a higher I color than the 2.066. Since face ups are so close, I would choose the 2.018. You can also ask WF to take a side by side pic of the two stones for comparison.

Good luck!

ACAs are cut to such tight performance standards that you don't need to analyze their ASET images. Any differences in the ASETs are beyond what your eyes will be able to see in person.

I would ask Whiteflash about the inclusions on the VS2 and, as @lulu_ma said, a side-by-side photo showing the color for all three.

You have 3 great contenders here. My advise is to have WF take pics of the 2 you are considering side by side.

Another way to help decide on a vendor (between wf and vc, both of whom are great) is to look at settings. Vc is known for his hand forged settings. They are pricey, but worth it.

They are both great but if I had to choose I'd go w the one on the left

I agree with musicloveranthony and lovedogs about the one on the left. It looks much brighter and cleaner to my eye.

Can you also ask Whiteflash about the 2.091 that tyty333 found? It looks cleaner than the other VS2 and would save you money over the VVS2.

Bringing this J to you attention...has a nice huge 15.8% crown height with a 40.8/34.5/54.2 combo and 76% lowers with an 8.36mm spread. If you're interested, then have WF provide side by side comparison pics.

Oooh, we do love a nice puffy crown!

Beautiful stone..

Here's the pick. Apparently, according to the sales rep, the 2.09 is on the browner side of color compared to the other two, but it does look like a better cut imo. Let me know what you fine people think SBS_2.018-2.091-2.170.jpg

My pick would be the 2.17 J VS1 from that line up!

Hi! it looks like the 2.01 is on hold and hopefully it’s you who did it! But since you’re asking us for our opinions on which WF, my choice is the 2.09 I VS2. I kept reviewing the vids on both diamonds and also the stills, while the 2.09 is slightly more tinted ‘brown’ I really find that it is unusual and attractive! I do have an I graded diamonds by WF each diamond is unique in its ‘tint’ when viewing the diamond on the side. I think the 2.09 one you won’t ‘see’ the tint and will be lovely in a platinum or white gold setting. I wish you could buy both and then compare, but I know that would be a challenge to place on one’s cc…

Also face up both are stunning, so you can’t go wrong there. The 2.09 one is less $$ though and you can use the extra money save for the setting. Let us know what you decide!

PS. I also owned a ‘J’ color diamond and the tint from the side and top really bothered me (my 1st diamond, before cut was the main deciding factor) which was why I went up on color for my next diamonds…so shout out to @tyty3333 for that find!

I love the 2.09, but I'm sure other people have different preferences. All look great to me

Thanx for the reply! I'm actually flying into town to see both up close and then make a move. I have the that reserve but now I'm considering the other two options.

I think that is a great idea if you are able to do that. Good luck!

Just looking at this line up again, and you can clearly see the middle stone has a very slight brown hue (many people like that). The two either side look very similar (almost the same) in their face down colour, will they be the same colour face up?

It’ll be interesting to know which one you decide on, especially seeing them close up and personal.

I personally feel that the brown one looks much more tinted than the other 2 despite being an I, so I wouldn't pick that one!

Aww! We are excited for your visit! I wish we all could set up a Zoom meeting and check this out along with you! Some of us have never ever stepped into the showroom! You lucky person! Are you bringing your significant other along to check it out too? I think that would be a great idea to pick it out together!

Also, can you ask your SA to hold the 2.09 one since you’re going in person? It never hurts to ask!

The market dictates brown body color to be less desirable than a stone without it.

I personally like it.

google diamond + “brown, milky, green”

I could potentially bring my laptop, setup a zoom, take pics with my DSLR and post the images via chat while I'm at whichever showroom. Seems like a great idea. We ended up stuck in New Zealand when COVID started. That trip went from a two week vacation to two years and I've collected an insane amount of miles since then. I'm on a mission here so yeah, any showroom you fine people recommend be it 47th, Houston, etc. I can possibly make that trip happen. I understand whiteflash has quite the mark-up so if there's anywhere else anyone recommends, please let me know

Humm perhaps consider a visit also to ID Jewelry in NYC and meet with Yekutiel! website: Idjewelry.com/? I have purchased a pair of small diamond studs…but again I have never stepped into his small showroom. It would be interesting to know what he can get you for your budget of $21-24k and you can also ask him for images of the stones. Be sure to bring the scopes if you do go and let him know that you’ll be using them to check the diamonds out for yourself…but really that‘s a lot of running around! However, it maybe worth it…

@Texas Leaguer would you allow an educational Zoom meeting with a visiting PSer @PirateLLC ? we can all check out those yummy diamonds WF has and have a fun online ‘visit.’

oh and note to add, I wanted WF generous upgrade policy and knew I would upgrade, while I did pay a premium for this benefit, it was worth it to me and their professional customer service was also another reason. So you will have to decide if this ring is it or like myself I knew I was going to upgrade.
