Help picking the rock! I'm lost down this rabbit hole!

Humm perhaps consider a visit also to ID Jewelry in NYC and meet with Yekutiel! website: Idjewelry.com/? I have purchased a pair of small diamond studs…but again I have never stepped into his small showroom. It would be interesting to know what he can get you for your budget of $21-24k and you can also ask him for images of the stones. Be sure to bring the scopes if you do go and let him know that you’ll be using them to check the diamonds out for yourself…but really that‘s a lot of running around! However, it maybe worth it…

@Texas Leaguer would you allow an educational Zoom meeting with a visiting PSer @PirateLLC ? we can all check out those yummy diamonds WF has and have a fun online ‘visit.’

oh and note to add, I wanted WF generous upgrade policy and knew I would upgrade, while I did pay a premium for this benefit, it was worth it to me and their professional customer service was also another reason. So you will have to decide if this ring is it or like myself I knew I was going to upgrade.

I just messaged Yekutiel today from what I've read on previous posts. Let's see what he comes up with :)

I like Yekutiel, but I think it’s best to not muddy the decision making process and it’s like starting over.

my 2 cents.

thank you about the stackers.

C4C,
While it might be fun, I'm not sure an in-person visit will translate well over zoom for the people at home. Looking at diamonds in person is a pretty intimate experience. Maybe that's the way it should stay.

@PirateLLC got shot down on the Zoom idea! (See above..Texas Leaguer is VP at Whiteflash). Oh well, but hopeful that one day it may happen, just not yet apparently and shucks, while I can get caught up in the nuisances of diamond speak, the buyer may be easily be swayed and the fun intimacy of choosing your special one may be diminished by the yakking of PSers like myself fawning and dribbling over the specs…sigh…I resign myself to the fact that I would get carried away and completely ruin your trip! (Hahaha, I don’t take myself too seriously!)

I'm sticking to my recommendation...this amount of crown height is a rare find for an ACA, and the tint is indistinguishable from the I color in the picture above. It may look different in person...

I don’t believe this stone will look more tinted imho!

I agree, but there's always a chance once it's seen by natural vision compared to a picture.

oh that's yummy

It maybe that the larger stone 2.52 ct. would be more appealing, due to size?

There is always that possibility.
It's a noticable 0.5mm increase in spread, after all.
The eyes will soon tell, once all of these beauties can be seen together.

While you're in Houston you could swing over to Brian Gavin Diamonds. He 's not on this forum as much as Whiteflash but it's a chance to be thoroughly overwhelmed.

I thought about that but they really dont have much in stock atm. The only thing in my budget at 2ct is this stone:

I have to choose 3 of them to see first since they cant bring out more than 3 so I did narrow down my first 3 options to the 2.17 you recommended, the 2.5 and the 2.09 that has a bit of a brown hue. Basically all the recommendations Ive gotten here first :)
Thanx again!

Question dejawiz, would a taller crown lead to diamond that faces up slightly smaller compared to one with a less puffy crown? What are the advantages and would they even be noticeable in an ACA?

Probably not a measurable difference in face up size for this one, since the overall depth is still a beautiful 61.6% with an outer diameter of 8.36mm.

For comparison sake, there is an ACA 2.208 J VS1 with an overall depth of 61.0% and an outer diameter of 8.41mm and a 14.9% crown sporting a 40.7/34.5/56.5 combo. That 0.05mm diameter difference will be impossible to see for a majority of unaided human eyes. The 2.17 has a 40.8/34.6/54.2 combo and the taller crown could favor a bit more dispersion.

The 2.17 is as close to Tolkowsky ideal proportions as I've yet to run across for bona fide super ideals:
40.75/34.5/53.0
16.2% crown height
59.3% depth (not including girdle thickness)

Have a great trip! It is so much fun to actually go there in person to see diamonds and meet the staff. Can’t wait to see what you choose!

Alright ladies and gents. What a damn day! My AM flight got cancelled so I managed to get another flight to Houston and I missed my afternoon flight to Puerto Rico. Hopefully the miss doesn't get suspicious!

The rush of getting to whiteflash late led me to see just the 2.5, 2.17 and the 2.09. I didn't get a chance to see the other rocks but it really wasn't worth the time to be honest.

The 2.17, didn't distinguish itself from the other two, even though the specs round it closer to the ideal cut dimensions.

2.5 and 2.17 are on the yellow side. 2.09 has a slight brow hue that actually works towards balancing out the yellow, making it look whiter than the rest. The 2.09 is also an I vs the other two that are a J, but it still looks whiter than an I to be honest.

The wow factor! The size of the 2.5 mesmerized me. Yes, the 2.09 had better color, but the size of the 2.5 was to me eye, sexy af. I didn't want to get anything bigger than a 2ct diamond because we are basically travel nomads but my partner is 5'9" and a bit bigger couldn't necessarily hurt. There is an inclusion I had a hard time finding a crystal but it was hard for me to find with my untrained eye.

Anyhow, my options boiled down to these two:
The 2.09 that looks pretty white to me:

Or the 2.5 that's a bit on the yellow side but it's size makes up for it imo:

How important is the upgrade policy to you?

What color gold are you using? My K in my avatar is in unplated white gold, which is like a “whellow” color, and I think it helps a lot to take the yellow out of the stone so to speak.

Go for the larger one!

How important is the upgrade policy to you?

It's not that important as I don't think she'll want to upgrade for sentimental reasons.

How color sensitive do you think your partner is? If she's not too color sensitive, I'd go for the bigger one, as the size difference is quite significant!

Ok. A well known, long time PSer just put these Brian Gavin G and H stones up for sale.

I know it would be more complicated and you would probably want to use an intermediary, like Neil Beatty, but it may be an opportunity for you...

And your diamond with those bands is godamn spanking sexy

The price doesn't seem right to be honest

My so would be happy with a cracker jack box ring if there was a good story behind it lol. I think this purchase is more for what I think she'd deserve. I'd put a 100ct meteorite on this woman of it were feasible. She deserves that and more after putting up with me for 4 strong years hahahaha
