Help! Rose cut- yay or nay?

Okay friends,

I’ve been posting here recently searching for the perfect round antique diamond. Thoughts on rose cut diamonds? The one I’m looking at is 1.33 Carat White Rose Cut Diamond SI1, G Color, Very Good-Cut. Just the basic info I have at the moment. Any help would be appreciated!
 
I like rose cuts, but wouldn't buy one unless you knew what you were getting into. They way they're cut pretty much guarantees that they won't sparkle as much as even a normal antique cut.

Yes I’ll get way more details before purchasing. Are rose cuts worth as much as rounds, OEC etc...or are they more trendy? Hard to find good info online. Thank you!

No, they generally trade at a substantial discount to round diamonds.

beautiful ring! I know nothing about rosecuts.. they seem to have huge flashes of color.. I wonder if one would get tired of the glassy look? not sure.

I have a few in a sweet necklace from JBEG. I will say that people tend to thing they are quartz or zircon. They do not have the scintillation that most people expect to see from diamonds. They also look dirty faster than others. The appraisal is missing the ring size, lack of detail makes me question things. Are you thinking of this a ring for yourself, your partner? Can you return it if you do not like it? I think the price is a little high but that may be going largely to the setting.
 
I don't get rose cuts. :confused: . They look like a piece of glass to me.

I think when you look down on the ring, the filigree underplate will be pretty easily visible through the rose-cut - are you okay with that?

Is there a return policy? The price to me seems like full retail price...

When you say you are looking for the perfect rose-cut, what does that mean to you?
 
I used to think I wanted a rose cut. I then did a lot of research & looked at loads of pictures. In the end I decided rose cuts weren’t for me. I don’t like the way you can see your skin through the diamond. Some people like this aspect but it’s not for me. I ended up buying an OEC through Adam at Old World Diamonds. I am extremely happy with it.
 
I love love love that ring mount.
As for rose cut diamonds, they are a particular taste.
As others have said, their facetting means they are see through, the light isnt directed around the diamond and back out to the eye as a round brilliant is. So while you get flashes of rainbows at certain angles, looking down at your ring you will see the underneath filigree pattern.
Is there a return option?
Talk to the vendor, see if you can receive it and if it doesn’t meet with your expectations, return for a full refund, less shipping. In my opinion it’s only fair to cover all the shipping costs if you want a return and refund option.
You might see it in person and be spell bound, that setting is magnificent, or you migh go “nah, not for me”.
That’s my opinion and advice anyway.
 
I have a rose cut cluster ring. The center is .68 cts. As others have said, it has more of a glassy look. It also tends to attract a lot of dirt (or maybe it’s just the kind of setting I have) and needs frequent cleaning.
 
I'm not a fan of single rose cuts, but some of the double rose cuts look really nice in that they have less of that glassy appearance...and allow a very very low setting. There are very old versions that are actually 2 rose cuts placed back-to-back or a single crystal carved into a single stone.
 
I love the setting! Are opals fragile? I notice it has opals.

My friend has a large cut and she loves the glassy see-through quality. Shrug!
 
Have you tried on a rose cut in person to make sure you like the see-through aspect of an unfoiled one? I think they’re beautiful but they’re also not for everyone.

I love the look of foiled rose cuts, but the drawback is that you have to avoid getting them wet or the foil will oxidize and make the diamond look dirty.

Definitely do not commit to ordering unless there is an unconditional return policy. You will have to see it to know if you really love it or not. It's not worth it unless you really love the setting, too.
 
it's a very pretty ring but rose cuts aren't for me either.
 
Rose cuts are very different that mrb or OEC. You either like them or not, in my opinion. I have small ones set into a bangle and they're lovely. However, I would not want a large one set into a ring unless I purchased from a trusted vendor such as CVB.
 
I have no opinion about Rose Cuts because like everything, it's a matter of taste & preference. I agree with others about seeing one IRL similar to the one your interested in just to see if you like it. I agree, too, rose cuts are super-trendy right now, so like all trends, the phase will pass. The ring you are viewing is gorgeous and I love the setting! Have never seen anything like it. Setting is beautiful!

Give it a try but just make sure there's an ample return policy. What do you have to lose?
 
I absolutely adore rose cuts. Especially warmer rose cuts. I would not change my rose cut for any other stone. I have had other cuts and much prefer my rose cut. It draws me in and somehow speaks to me. However, I know they are not the first choice for others. I think that ring and rose cut diamond are beautiful! If there is a return policy it would definitely be worth viewing in person.

Edited to add:

You cannot see my finger through the rose cut. I worked with Caysie and that was one of the things we made sure of in the process. Having it set as it is it doesn't look glassy but shimmers very consistently. Because of the color and fleuro it can either be buttery or very bright. It has a "glow" to it even in very low lighting

Rose cuts are definitely not for me.
 
If you already have diamond ring(s) in other cut(s), adding a rose cut to the collection will be a lovely addition.

However if this will be your first diamond, I think it is safer to stay with more popular cut. They are popular for a reason. Roes cut is not as common for a reason: supply and demand.
