Thanks in advance for any input from anyone.

Guy.

We really need more info such as the crown and pavillion angles. See if the vendor can get these for you - if it is a recent GIA grading report then see also if the vendor can run a Sarin Report on this diamond, as the GIA angles are rounded. An Idealscope image too if available would be helpful.

Thanks.
The GIA certificate indictaes the crown angle to be 34 degrees and 14.5%
The Pavillion is 41.4 degrees and 44.0 %.
The cut grade on the certificate is Excellent.

This diamond scored a 4.5 on the Cut Advisor - good, only if price is your main criterion. I think the cut quality could be improved on, a less steep pavillion angle would help probably. In the pic on the site, it looks like an attractive diamond, but you need to decide if you want the best cut you can get, or one which has some performance but could be better. That is a lot of money to spend, as I said to another poster earlier this week, get the best you can for it. The Cut Advisor isn't the be all and end all of cut judgement, but it certainly helps and is a very useful tool, if you aren't in any rush - we can see what else is out there for comparison. Does it have to be an F VS or could you broaden your specs a bit?

There are a few out there with a quick search like this one

Thanks.
Now i''m confused.
Is the GIA system of cut grading wrong?
Should it have gotten only good and not excellent?
I was reading the GIA measures the light coming out of the diamond to determine the cut grade. Is that not the most accurate way sice they are the only ones to test the diamond in"person"

Thanks.
It seems like there is no agreement on the issue.
I think the GIA grades diamonds cut quality differently then the AGS way for some reason.
Do you know which grading facility is considered more "official" between the two?

AGS is considered to be the 'official' cut grader. As you will see from the thread, GIA have only very recently been grading for cut.
