Hello. I'm new to the forum and have been browsing through the web pages listed in the sticky post that sell gemstone jewelry. I'm interested in buying a amethyst bracelet for my wife, but I don't know anything about gemstones or jewelry. I saw a few pieces that appealed to me on the mineralminers.com website. Does anyone have any experience with this company and care to share the experience? Also, what should I look for when buying an amethyst bracelet? Thanks in advance for the help.

welcome!

i have no experience with the vendor. do you have a picture of the bracelet?

not all amethyst is created equal.

have you done a search in this forum? some have bought some really nice amethyst but i have not done so as of yet.

I have a few amethyst pieces by Julia Kay Talor (I suppolied the Amethyst though).

Since Julia is booked out to the end of 2011- I would contact Daniel M through etsy. He could probably sourse stones that are very nice and make you a custom bracelet fairly inexpensivly. I personally would not buy a pre-made bracelet as I bet the stones are not very good...as previously stated Amethyst is not created equally.

Oh Barry at acstones.com has some lovely amethyst right now if you check out his website!

I purchased a very lovely Amethyst stone from Dan Stair at Custom Gemstones that I am having made into a ring. He is another excellent vendor to check for stones.

I purchased one from Gary Braun finewater gems. I'm working on getting it set in a pendant. If you don't see something on his website, you can email him and he might be able cut something for you. Tucson 2011 is coming up and the vendors look for material there. If they know you want something, they can look for it specifically.

I have purchased from Mineralminers a long time ago; the transaction was easy and quick, with the item as represented. I presume you are looking at a specific amethyst bracelet? I see several there that are cabbed and faceted with some looking a little nicer than others. As they seem to vary in quality, it will be helpful to know which one you are leaning towards.

As with all gemstones, you want to look for something that is richly coloured, which is different from looking dark. Simply put, in amethysts, avoid the pale washed out ones. Most people prefer amethysts that have red and/or blue flash which none on MM seem to show. Uruguay, Jackson Crossroad, 4 Peaks and those from a few other locales will exhibit this wonderful quality.
