Help with antique family ring setting

Oooooohhhhhhh, yes. Genius solution!

Nice!!! What a transformation! I love it.

Wow what a massive difference, it looks utterly perfect. Brilliant idea to have it collet set. It’s best if both worlds. Great job!

Update in case folks are curious.

I couldn't stand to leave it as it was with the prongs snagging AND the unevenness of the prongs/stone within the head. I sent back to DK and asked him to make a collet + prongs (which I've seen him do wonderful versions of before).

I'm SO HAPPY I trusted my gut.

The stone is so much more visible/firey, and the setting is easy, low, and snag-free. Yay!!!!

This. is. perfection.!!! I love the side profile, and also, how much larger the diamond looks in relation to the band width. It’s gorgeous! :kiss2:

@lovedogs I wanted to comment on how your embracing of this special ring and amazing gesture from your future MIL speaks to something we need to not forget as we get so caught up in super ideal stones: The appreciation for diamonds that may not be SIs. And you are someone who ALSO HAS a gorgeous SI yet you see the beauty of a diamond that might not be totally on par with PS rec specs yet there are other important things to appreciate. Thank you for sharing the story and journey of your new engagement ring with us :-)
This also brings to mind people who come here after purchasing and they have what wouldn’t be “acceptable” by PS recs… we need not make people feel bad about what they have. Yes, it’s unfortunate when this happens, but we need to help them feel good about what they have after they discover their stone may “fall short” as compared to the best cuts. Ultimately the privilege of owning and receiving any diamond is very special.

i keep thinking about your ring
its cold and dark and rainy when i catch the bus home from work and your ring is like sunshine and warmth !

but i was thinking what is so good about what you did is you made that ring 100% wearable because it doesnt nessessarly look like an ER

i have both my grandma's and her sister's (Aunty Neater) ERs and i feel like i can only wear one of them at a time, which means one of the sister's gets left at home while the other one get's to go to lunch

i think you have future proffed your MIL's ring into a family hairlom that any lucky future wearer will be happy to wear and admire (and take out to lunch)
