Hi guys, I've got 2 diamonds that I'll be selecting for an engagement ring. But would love to have a second opinion regarding my choices and getting a better stone.

Both are similar 1ct sized. I'm very new to this whole ordeal so very happy to learn!.

It would help if you added images of the GIA reports so everyone doesn't have to look them up. The first stone is not well
cut so pass on that. Provide the GIA image for the second one. Any link to a video that you can provide?

Apologies, I've added them now.

What about the first stone makes it a bad cut?

Look at the difference between the images of the first and second diamond. The second shows much better symmetry. The first diamond is more of a 60/60 style diamond but the image shows irregularity in cut which will result in what your eyes see in performance.

Thanks for the explanation! I was under the impression that 60/60 diamonds don't necessarily have anything wrong with them, rather you sacrifice some of the scintillation for brilliance.

Are there any concerns regarding the choice of the 2nd diamond?

As a comparison, here is super ideal cut diamond, G color, VS1 with no fluorescence. Compare these images with the ones for your second diamond. See how it compares and how it compares with price.

Hi, I'm not sure I see the photo the aforementioned diamond.

Posting this link to a trusted/vetted Super Ideal stone...you can look at the differences in the images.

60/60 stones can be fine but that first stone is not well-cut (its more than just the numbers).

The second stone could have better numbers but its not too bad IMO. Just depends on how close you want to
get to perfection.

Hahah this is the same one linked by @tyty333.

Definitely a noticeable difference between the link and my choice of diamonds.

I suppose the price difference also makes sense!

Yes, super ideal cut diamonds lose more diamond material in their cutting as they are cut for light performance and not carat weight. This in turn makes for higher pricing. They are truly something to behold though!

# 2 is pretty good for the price... it's worthy of asking your jeweler to call it in for an in person viewing... if you find it lacking then maybe decide if you want to spend more or go down in Size/Color for a perfection cut in your budget....
