Hello,

A few years back htis forum helped eudcate me and select a great diamond for a ring - now I'm back looking for help picking diamons for earings for my wife. I'm thinking in 1.2 to 1.5 ctw range - not sure how big a difference there is between the edges of that range and if it is worth the extra money per se. Cut is of utmost importnace to me, I'm looking in the G-I and VS2-SI2 (eye clean only) ranges. Dangerously I don't really have a budget but I'm thinking, based on initial looks, that under $5K is appropriate as an upper limit.

Through some initial searching I have found a few different pairs and would like opinions on the pairs, which you like better and if I am even approaching matches in the right way. Each pair from different vendors - how difficult would it be to mix individual diamonds from different vendors and get them set?

Pair One from James Allen:
.71 G SI1 AGS0 H&A 5.74mm $2160 http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1304540.asp
.71 I VS2 AGS0 H&A 5.75mm $2470 http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1346487.asp

Pair Two from Brian Gavin
.70 I SI1 BG Select 5.65mm $1948 http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-details/?product_id=29101969
.70 I VS1 BG Select 5.67mm $2102 http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-details/?product_id=29101969

Pair Three from Whiteflash
.66 G SI1 ACA 5.59mm $1551 http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2544693.htm
.66 G VS2 ACA 5.58mm $1915 http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2544694.htm

Can you find me better pairs?

Thanks in advance for the help and information,
Avi

I wouldn't mix diamonds from different vendors, should be easy enough to find a pair at the same vendor and then you don't have to worry about setting fees/etc. It may be best to contact the vendors and see what they come up with, they can probably suggest some pairs that match and then you can choose which you like best?

I really like the pair from Whiteflash, FWIW. But someone just bought the 0.658 of the pair that you posted. Next time, I'd put them on hold before posting here...

Also, I don't like the pairs that the vendors come up with -- for example, the pairs pre-matched on JA seem to all have one ideal and one excellent cut, when I want two ideal cuts! And can find them on JA's site for about the same price.

Your estimate seems reasonable for what you want. And I'd definitely put down a budget first!!
