HILLARY''S FIRST NIGHT AS PRESIDENT IN 2009

Hillary Clinton gets elected President and is spending her first night in The White House. She has waited so long..........

The ghost of George Washington appears, and Hillary says, "How can I best
serve my country?"

Washington says, "Never tell a lie. "

"Ouch! " Says Hillary, "I don''t know about that."

The next night, the ghost of Thomas Jefferson appears... Hillary says,
"How can I best serve my country? "

Jefferson says, "Listen to the people. "

"Ohhh! I really don''t want to do that."

On the third night, the ghost of Abe Lincoln appears... Hillary says, "How can I best serve my country? "

Lincoln says, "Go to the theater. "

it has nothing to do with party lines--I have always thought Hillary Clinton was the anti-Christ. Something about her disturbs me. She is after power and that''s it--she couldn''t care one iota about America. It''s a gut I have and the way she maneuvers...I get chills when I see her posturing on TV. That''s why she stayed in that hideous marriage--he got her to Washington.

People make such a big deal because she is a woman.... I want the right person (if we can find one) to lead this country, not someone voted in because she has a uterus. Any man is a better choice than she is.

Because the men who go into politics are not in it for power? Or marry ''politically''? Or stay in miserable marriages for ''image''? Perhaps it is because we expect women to be better than that, it makes it worse when one acts like men in the same position. And makes a man more acceptable, due to the diminished expectations...

well said, jenwill.

I am not a political analyst and have admitted that my reaction to her is largely personal and gut-driven. Your points are well taken and we could debate ad nauseum that her actions are no better or worse than those of most, if not all, men in politics. My issue is that a lot of women I know think she is so wonderful. And I really think she could be not just "not wonderful" but downright evil. Are we so desperate to have a woman in the White House that we''ll settle for Hillary Clinton?

Believe me, I would love to see a woman in the Oval Office but I hope this nation waits for one who is worthy, whether she is Democratic or Republican or whatever.

wait for a woman who is worthy?!

would that we had waited for such a man!

US history is littered with unworthy male presidents......

No one would argue this point.

Maybe I''m deluded--or optimistic--or simply foolish, but I''d like to see the first female leader of the free world have more good than bad. One can dream.

I read in a magazine that Hilary is really PO''d at Oprah cause the political party that Hilary is in and Oprah supports wants Oprah to be president over Hilary. I laughed my a$$ off at that one though

the job has already been taken: anyone remember margaret thatcher?! if i remember right, Great Britain is a part of the ''free world'' and reports of opinions to the contrary, ms margaret is female.

and ms margaret is not my idea of ''more good than bad''.

however, you are right that one can dream....but to sit back and expect the first US woman president to be of higher caliber than her male counterparts is more than unrealistic.

Hillary was at one of the parties and leaned over to Gov. Arnold S. and said "If I was your wife I would put posion in your drink."

Arnold replied "Hillary if you were my wife I would drink it"!!!!

I work in politics and from all my first hand experience, there is no perfect politician. They all have to sell their souls a little to get what (they think) is best for the area they represent.
As a New Yorker, I can attest that she has done a lot for the state. It''s very easy to knock someone when they are in the public eye. Just because you don''t like her personally, doesn''t mean she''s not a good elected official.

Clinton has horrific morals but did a lot for this country just as Nixon was a paranoid, racist, crook who did a lot for this country.

Conclusions should not be drawn from gut feelings. Gut feelings should contribute to your decisions, but should not be the deciding factor.

Now I will step off my pedestal...

I don''t like to debate politics... but I wanted to mention I thought it was hilarious at the Oscars when Chris Rock was talking about Bush and his job and how if he worked at the Gap..aka if your register was $17B short...would you get fired? and if you started a war with Banana Republic because they were making short sleeve tank tops and then after you took over BR and had all these casualties...you realized...oh they never made those rumored ss tank tops at all.

Even Greg who is a Bush fan said...''well when you put it that way''...

I was busy just laughing.

Totally forgot about that. That was hilarious!

mara, good analogy!

Of course I know/remember who Margaret Thatcher is. “Leader of the free world” is a euphemism typically used for the President of the United States.

In any event, this is what makes this country great—we can all disagree. And while, yes, I do usually make my political decisions on as many “facts” as I can get about the person and his/her positions and performance, there is just something that really worries me about Mrs. Clinton. Maybe that is irrational—I admitted as much in my post. I was kind of curious about whether others might feel the same way, which is that many people, especially other women, seem to “love” Hillary Clinto just because she is the woman who has the best chance at a white house bid (or so it seems). But true to most patterns I’ve observed, anything even remotely perceivable as “anti-Democrat” is immediately attacked.

Like Mara, I don’t usually give my humble opinions on the political stuff here. Pricescope is for fun. I guess I learned my lesson.

And please don''t respond with "if you can''t take the heat, get out of the kitchen" type comments...I''m out. Point taken. White flag is waving.

This is actually attributed to Winston Churchill and Lady Astor, although even that may be apocryphal. Also attributed to Churchill and Lady Astor is this story: as he entered the room she patted his (somewhat large) belly and said, "If this were on a woman we would know what to think!"

To which he replied, "Well, last night it was...so what *DO* you think?"

re: ''Maybe I''m deluded--or optimistic--or simply foolish, but I''d like to see the first female leader of the free world have more good than bad. One can dream. ''

Well, doesn''t Golda Meir count? She preceeded Thatcher.

well, golda does count in my book, but many just don''t consider the middle east to be ''the west''.

i also have heard there is a woman in finland that''s been president for 5 years now....apparently, that is long enough that one young 5 year old asked his mother if a boy could grow up to be president!

and while we''re at it re female presidency and the west, let''s not forget Juan Peron''s third wife, Maria Estela Isabel Martinez de Peron, who was president of Argentina from 1974 - 1976. "Juan Peron died on 1 July 1974. He had helped restore some stability to Argentina after winning a landslide presidential election upon his return from exile." She was already his vice president when he became ill and was then sworn in as president. "Isabel Peron''s presidency lasted until 1976 when she was deposed by a military junta led by Jorge Rafael Videla."

so much for freedom, the west, democracy, elections, etc.

back to the original idea re hillary and the presidency: after what the far right did to mccain [a member of their own party!] and to kerry [via swiftboaters], i can''t imagine putting myself in for what the far right can do with all the information [accurate AND inaccurate] that they can and would use against her.

Don''t you know, F&I? It''s only acceptable to make fun of conservatives....

Hee!

Anyway, I want to throw my two cents in on the Chris Rock monologue at the Oscars. I was rolling... One of the things I love about C.R. is his ability to go after everyone. Equal opportunity offender...

Sorry if I seemed preachy yesterday... was just having a difficult time at work.

I have a rule with one of my good friends that we not talk about politics or religion... I think I''ll obey that rule here too!

Precisely my point. If you are going to dish it out, you better be ready for it to be dished to you and then not retreat.

I did find Chris Rock's monologue funny. But, couldn't he find a better example for his "waiting" rant than Jude Law? If you can't get Oprah and you can get Jerry Springer - than wait. But, Jude Law? He's not so bad. Strange person to target.

Oh well, I heard the other day that it may possibly be a Hillary vs Condolesa ticket.

And, MZ, last time I looked, Israel was part of the Free World.

And, I did think it funny that the Razzie best actor & best supporting actor went to Bush & Rumsfeld respectively.

f&i,

i didn''t say israel wasn''t part of the ''free'' world, i said that many people think of the ''free'' world only as being in the west and, therefore, because'' israel is part of the middle east, gets left out of the equation.

so let''s forget geography and look to india as a democracy that is not a part of the western world and has also already had a female head-of-state. i''d prefer not to look to the phillipines and imelda as an example of femine moral high ground when it comes to leadership.

my real point is that it doesn''t matter if its a male or female, people operate from the same motivations and just don''t deviate that much....look at the democrats and republicans as an example of there really not being much distinction between the parties.

Bottom line here is that the US has not had a female president or even vice president even though there is precedence in the "free world". I find that odd. women have been kept out of politics until recently. Women having the vote isn''t ancient history. I don''t know if Americans can get over that the President has a first husband. Maybe in my lifetime. It''s just my thought. Regardless of what may think of Hillary, I do believe that many wouldn''t vote for her because she is a her.

excuse me?! US women have had the right to vote for less than 100 years as of this date....!
