that looks like so much fun on the rooftop!
I agree, cool pic!!!

We''ll be in Miami this year!
New Year''s day is my bf''s bday so we always celebrate. We usually go to a nice restaurant or to a nice party but the possibilities are endless this year. I''m sure they will be something great to get into to bring in the New Year and a bday this year in Miami! At the very least, it will be warmer than Seattle.

We''re meeting with college friends in New Orleans and then on New Years Day, we''ll be at the Sugar Bowl. Did I mention I hate football?

Sometimes I have babysitting, but when I don''t, I do not really mind. I am happy to hang with the kids, all cozy, and have the fire on. We drink champagne and get sparkling cider for the kids and we all stay up late and watch movies and have popcorn. I would not mind going out for dinner on the early side and then heading home before all the people are really celebrating too much.

The age comment about the grandmother did not get me, but I did think it funny the grandmother is holding the babysitting against her!!! Thought they lived for that!

Honestly, that would be my kind of day. I cannot wait til my kids are born.

We (4+dog) are going to go to this little resort. Since we have no family here to spend Christmas or NYE with, we''ll treat ourselves to something special. On NYE we plan on soaking in the outdoor hot spring pool and playing with kids. Yay for poolside bars! On NYD we''re going to go dog sledding.

I hope everyone has a safe holiday!

Penn, I am sure you will be an awesome parent!

It is funny, but some of our best times on NY eve have been like this. My oldest is 15 and the youngest 6, and my middle guy 12 1/2, so they can out last me most times! Even when my youngest was really little, we would put him to bed and hang with our older kids. We sometimes watch a sentimental movie, or play cards or boardgames, and snack and have fun. I really have no need to be out til all hours, so even just dinner out with all of us works, and then home for the rest of the night, watching the ball drop!

10 years so far.

met online in oct 97
Oh, I am so sorry, strmrdr. I know how crazy I was going after just three years; I have a hard time imagining ten. I sincerely wish that you will be able to find a way to be together again soon, and that the wait to be together permanently isn''t too much longer.

We''ll be celebrating, but just at home since I''m concerned about drunk drivers being out! Maybe we''ll go for an early dinner AND we''ll let the kids stay up till midnight, which will thrill them to no end, but that''ll be it.

My husband calls it "Amatuer Night". And it''s true.

We usually stay home, make snacky stuff, watch a little TV. Sometimes we don''t even make it to midnight. I think it''s over rated.

we will be back from Turks and alone (no mother in law). My son has a meet the Sat before so we may sneak up o to our mountain house just for a couple of days.
Oh Yeah!!!! Diamondfan.. I totally forgot you were going to be here!!! soooo fun! I hope you enjoy every single second of it!

Hubby and I will be in Disneyworld ringing in the new year!!! I am sooo excited... I dont even care about the massive crowds of people... we are just really excited to ring in the new year there.. and then buckle down for the coming months.. its been a ROUGH last three months of the year... so I''m looking forward to a little getaway.. where I can be a kid!

I am going to my mom''s this year. She normally has a huge party with over 100 and I go there a day or two before to help out and then sleep over new year''s eve. This year for the first time since I have worked, I am working on new year''s day. It kind of sucks, but my trade off was to get Christmas day off, so it will work out okay.

we''re going to be in mendocino...a small ocean town about 2 hours drive from us...with another couple we are good friends with. it''s shaping up to be quite mellow as the place is the farthest thing ever from a party town, our suites overlook the ocean with wood-burning fireplaces that i plan to take advantage of, so we are going to have a nice dinner out then maybe a walk along the water in the small town, and end back in our rooms with some champagne or something low-key. we talked about going to new orleans after xmas for 5 days, and returning ON new years eve to just relax at home, but greg didn''t want to travel via plane this holiday season so we tabled that trip and decided to stay more local.

We call it amateur night too. Every restaurant has a "special meal" which means "pay three times the price" and the drunk drivers are out in force! We usually stay in, or go somewhere within the neighborhood that we can walk to, but I like to be home before 12 because of the grand old tradition of shooting guns into the air at 12! The bullets have to land somewhere!

A friend''s band is playing at a great place on the 29th, so that will be our big celebration, and it will be priced normally!

Sassee,

(you''d think that a 60 yr old grandma might not be so concerned about partying over New Year, but there you go.)

LOL LOL LOL. I had to laugh at this Sassee. I am 58 and we are not over the hill yet, ha ha ha ha ha. DH and I still like to party once in a while.

I just had to tease you about your comment, you made me laugh so.

Linda

Yeah, that was a pretty cheeky comment on my part, wasn''t it? And ageist...

I suppose I should clarify that I appreciate that 60 isn''t old, but this woman is like the teenager that has never grown up. She lives with our friends (the daughter and her husband) rent free (they are desperately trying to get her out but to no avail) and the arrangement they came to is that she was meant to help out with babysitting etc when they needed it. But whenever they ask her, she makes such a big deal (despite the original terms and conditions of her living there) and then goes down the same well-worn path of "I was a single mother who raised you and this is how you repay me" line. There is a lot of emotional blackmail going on...!! They don''t usually ask her to babysit for big events because they know her reaction, but they thought they''d give it a go this year - no such luck!!! So yeah, I didn''t mean to suggest that all people over the age of 55 should have no entitlement to fun on NYE, but in those particular circumstances, I think she needs to grow up and not always think of her own rights/entitlements!!

Last year we stayed home and I made a nice dinner, I think we may do the same again this year; it was a pleasant way to ring in the NY.

this new years is big!

i am in charge of organizing a HUGE party for our churchs youthgroup..its sort of like a lock in..tons of fun! but theres so much planning to do...im exitied!!! and everyone loves my parties so were expecting a huge turn out maybe close to 200 people! i cant wait!

Dunno yet. I''m itching to go out & be social ''cause last year we stayed in and were in bed around 11:30p- we had bleacher tixs to the Rose Parade and had to get up at 5a on the 1st (yuk)

I usually go to church for our traditional ''Watchnight'' Service, which starts at around 11:00 pm, and goes straight through till midnight. When the clock strikes 12 am, the bells of the church ring to bring in the New Year, and the congregation prays for blessings and guidance for the year ahead. After the service, which ends about 12:30 am, everybody hugs and greets each other outside. I think it''s a wonderful way to ring in the New Year!

My cousin is coming back from Iraq very soon and will be in DC for NY, so we''re going to try to get together with him. I don''t know yet if we''ll go out or have him, a couple of my other cousins, my sister, and my husband''s cousin over to our house for nibblies and drinks.

Hubby''s close friends invited us over; it will be nice and low key
2.gif
I love spending time w/good friends or family during the holidays.

I''ve been invited to a friend''s place for dinner and drinks, then watching the fireworks from the rooftop of her building. We''ll probably be buzzed enugh to not feel the cold! I believe in the theory my older relatives have about NY- you have to do something to celebrate it so that your year is prosperous. Last year I was home by 9, DH was asleep about half hour later and I sat and watched a movie. Sad to say, 2007 did not turn out to be a good year, so I''m making sure to have some fun.

D and I are going to a house party! Cannot wait! We go to their house every year and last year about ten of us ended up Irish dancing drunk in the middle of the street outside her house-great craic!

BF and I always spend Christmas apart but New Year''s together. This year we''re going to a formal dinner dance, it should be good fun!

I think we''re just going to stay in. Our flat isn''t great - no working fireplace or big comfy couches, but I think we''re going to cook dinner together and buy some real champagne, which I''ve never had before. We wanted some at our wedding (both weddings) but it didn''t happen, nor our honeymoon or 1st anniversary so rather than waiting for the first several years of being together to pass us by I decided (semi) expensive champagne on our second NYE together. It works, right?

Other than stay in, I guess just watch the ball drop on TV. I honestly can''t think of anything else to do.

Wow, we get to go somewhere, YET stay in. AND I get to spend it with my absolute best friend/SIL&BIL from Ohio.

Hubby''s brother here in town also owns a log A frame home about half an hour from here out in the country. Gorgeous place with a lake on several acres. They have invited hubby and me, plus the Ohio peeps to spend it up at their place. I can''t believe they are driving 6 hours to be with us for one night. They used to live here, and the 6 of us hung out a lot together. We''re not telling the rest of the fam they''re coming.

We''re gonna have fun!

J and I have finally decided what we''re doing for our first New Year''s together (physically together that is--ahh, the joys of long-distance relationships)! We are going to go out to the best Chinese restaurant in town, which apparently does something extra-specially-good for New Year''s, and then have a quiet night in snuggling on the couch together. I think is sounds perfect.

Sounds like a perfect evening to me. SO and I are doing the same and I cannot wait. Happy New Year!

We''re doing what has become my favorite way to spend new year''s eve.
5.gif
We''re staying at my m&fil''s house, along with sil and her dh, and we''ll make lasagna, drink, and play poker until we all fall over.

I just love the fact that I can drink myself silly with my inlaws. With my parents around there would be a couple of glasses of refined champagne and polite boredom. With my new family there will be cases of microbrewed beer, raucous teasing, shouts of laughter, and flying poker chips.

I can''t wait!!
