Since Widget suggested that I post here since there are knowledgeable people here about gemstones, here it is:

Despite reading up on jade, I still have no idea now to pick decent quality pieces. Ones that I think are good pieces are ridiculously expensive while others are cheap and they are all from the same place so obviously the pricing must be consistant. These are Type A jade.

Without giving the game away, which would you pick and why.

How do I choose? There are all close in price range.

I know nothing about jade so I can only tell you what I see. The bottom right ring looks like plastic or synthetic something so I wouldnt go for it. I dont like the shape of the middle one on the right. And it and the top right have very even color but I dont think they are as interesting. I definitely tlike the ones of the left better because of their uniqueness. I like the top left color the least and would choose either the middle or bottom left rings. Probably the middle. Tough choice, good luck!

not all jade is created equal. there are varying grades of jade. i would personally only buy from a person who is an expert with jade. last november i tried on some really gorgeous and expensive jade. gleim jewelers in los altos had a ''jade'' show and i got to see the different qualities next to each other. impressive differences. good jade can be as pricey as a good diamond.

but given the choices you''ve provided i''d take the 1st one in the 2nd row.

This is not jadeite... (long answer on the Jewelry forum)

What about this place: http://www.jadeisus.com/ ?
Do you think he really sells Grade A jade? I thought the piece below looks kind of neat.

I like the top and bottom ones on the left. I don''t like any of the ones on the right. Which are the "good" ones?

Good Q 'how to pick' a jade bangle...

From the posts it sounds like it is important for this one to be jadeite and not treated. I couldn't swear any of the ones posted fit either of the points. And unless you wanted Wyoming black jade, I don't know any shop online I would trust. Just didn't look... sure there must be some.

However, I trust AIGS's reports alright, and one costs less than $50! Meaning, I wouldn't be shy about asking a seller to provide such bit of paper once quality and price have been bargained for. American-Thai ? They offer the certification service off the bat. Perhaps some of the sellers listing jade bangles on Gemwow.com would do the same, if anything catches your attention, why not. These did because of the unusually thin profile! 'Guess jadeite would withstand quite a bit of wear carved this thin, and the look of stacked stone bangles sounds intriguing. One bangle in the stack looks like it may have a crack... but if independent ID & checkup is feasible for so little, I'd rather go that way than second guess whatever one or another website has to say. There is such a frightening quantity of 'jade bangles' of every possible material and quality sold with fairly indiscriminate prices online and off... that I find the exercise a tad daunting

If I'd get to take a look at the merchandise, not sure I would go for 'paper'... or an appraisal unless this was quite valuable. Fake colors and fake lustre are quite darn obvious in person. If ID and treatment status do not matter, anything online is fair game - with some risk to end up with plastic or any other sort of mineral vaguely resembling jade.

Newbie here. Just for fun, I thought I''d show you all a different kind of jade bracelet. The file name is the hammer price at Sotheby''s: $1,027,314 USD.

This is just what I''ve seen purely from my family''s collection of jade. The deeper the color of jade, the more expensive it is. I''ve seen some jade that gets lighter and lighter with time and I''m not sure if they are treated or not but was told that those pieces aren''t worth as much either. Dunno if that helps, but its just what I know

You should never buy any jade for the price of the real stuff without a certificate from a well respected lab (AIGS is an excellent lab, but the best accepted on jade is GIT).

White jade is just like white sapphire, a lot is mined and the final consumer never sees any, guess why

.

The reason is also : I have a nice unheated 10 Ct sapphire (white with a yellow tint)... I''ll surely sell it for less than it would sell in Bangkok once diffused (with blue as it''s quite pure in color and good clarity).
Now it seems that the only place youo can "save" white sapphire is Burma, because origin somehow protect these sapphire. This one is from Tanzania and a real exception.
