How is culet pronounced?

This is an old thread, but I thought I’d dig it up because I recently went into a jewelry store and asked if they carry “Stuller” (I prounounced it like Stew-ler ) stock settings....the owner looked blankly at me, but I kept talking about how the Stew-ler site lists them as an authorized retailer.....
Finally, I took out a little piece of paper where I jotted down the item number of the setting I wanted to order, and a lightbulb went off, and he said, Oh you’re looking for a Stuller (rhymes with duller) setting!

In English it is pronounced Q-let. Probably in France and countires with related languages is might be pronounced Q-lay. Funny how so many people think they see a tiny hole in the bottom of their diamond instead of understanding that they are seeing the facet on the bottom of the pavilion.

We have all sorts of words that a difficult to know how to pronounce in the business. Nacre on cultured pearls is pronounced Neh-kur, but I've heard a few well qualified folks insist on calling it Nah-kur. I heard a sales person yesterday call Turquoise Tur-qwahz. It really sounded fancy and special.....Little details can make a difference with some people.

Here’s a funny one for you. Years ago I ventured into a Tiffany’s for the first time on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. I had my 8 year old son with me as we were from Canada and visiting Disneyland. I had researched what I wanted to purchase and innocently asked the very snooty sales lady “where can I find the squished up heart necklace?” she proceeded to turn around, look me up and down,roll her eyes and say in a very BH snobby voice “it’s a BEAN m’am” It was like a scene out of Pretty Woman when the sales ladies are laughing at Julia Roberts! My son and I looked at each other and walked out trying not to laugh out loud. To this day he will look at me and say ITS A BEAN M’AM! He’s now 31 and married. On his wedding day I presented him with the Sterling Silver Tiffany’s Bean Cufflinks. It was perfect.

I have French background and teach it so in my head I think coo-lay for “culet” even though I know most don’t pronounce it that way. Melée I always think “may-lay” but Idk how it’s pronounced! Leon Mege rhymes w hedge (in my head) because the e isn’t accented. Pavé pav-ay. And the turquaze that ppl mention is totally a French pronunciation

For some reason I thought Kozibe was a Japanese word! In my head it's cozybay.

But I recently had someone chuckle and say you mean brooch and he said it like “broach”
Maybe I should just say “pin”!
