I also pronounce Melee like "Mell-lee" is that right or wrong? I never did French at school....

Also questioning "How in the heck to you say kozibe?"

Yep, reading through this whole thread and still not sure how the heck to pronounce “melee.” I say it the way you do. Mell-lee. Emphasis on the second syllable. Is that correct?

Not sure if it's correct, but that's how my instructor at GIA pronounced it.

I’ve got one. Embarrassing. But this is a no judgement zone so here goes.
I say broo-ch with a long u like “broom”
But I recently had someone chuckle and say you mean brooch and he said it like “broach”
Maybe I should just say “pin”!

I’ve heard both pronunciations so I think you’re good.

Im sure I’m wrong, but I pronounce it co-jhe-bay, trying to get the Z like the Dutch Z (though I don’t speak Dutch so I’m sure I’m wrong).

Culet is coo-lay, Melee is may-lay, pave is pah-vay, and Cartier is Cah-tee-A, but again, my accent is abominable haha.

rofl, no bird for you.
My point is really that if someone understands it enough to try and get me to say it their way which may or may not be correct then I find that extremely rude.
If they understand it enough to try and correct me then they understand what I am saying and can go on from there without being rude but they chose to be rude.
It comes from working very hard to overcome a speech impairment as a kid that still creeps in when I am really tired.

I’m going with your instructor at GIA, cannot stomach (no pun intended) rhyming it with “belly.”

Because the French “r” is so different from the Anglo “r” - almost a guttural sound in your throat. Does anyone remember this super awesome dramatic Cartier commercial? He says it at the very end but if you watch the whole thing you can enjoy leopards dragons and Paris

I remember practicing the Rs in French class. I used the correct pronunciation when we visited Paris, but I just skip the Rs here. I feel like I'm being pretentious if I don't. Love the commercial.
