I've recently found out that my BF has been looking at rings for the past couple of months and was just wondering how long after ring shopping you ladies waited for a proposal:)?

In my mind it would be about another year before he'd be able to afford a ring, but I was just trying to get a feel as to if it's typical for a guy to "pre-plan" so far in advance of a proposal

What was your experience?

I was proposed to without a ring, but my friends waited 1-3 months.

Well, let''s see. I started looking at rings before he did.

But we only went together to look at rings two or three times. I don''t think he ever went by himself to be honest. But the whole process went from probably September or so..to December when we bought the ring..then he actually proposed on Valentine''s day. That''s our timeline, lots of proposal PS dust for you!

gtn: Oh my, that''s so soon! Now I''m a little nervous, hehe.

SarahLovesJS: Thank you, that''s my first sprinkle of dust^_^ I just found out that he''s been looking for about 2 months and now wants us to go look together. His mother told me last Xmas (we had only been together for 6 months at that point) that he''d likely be the type to propose at Christmastime because he''s such a Christmas fan. Now I''m a little nervous, hehe. I wonder if it could really be that soon? (And also, I have been looking at rings for about 8 months, but that''s a secret to him

Hehe I was a bit more bold with FI..I e-mailed him rings..and would bring cards home from the jewelry store and leave them on his desk.

Aww a Christmas proposal would be so sweet!! I love Christmastime! And as long as it''s good nervous, that''s okay!

SarahLovesJS: It''s good nervous, I definitely know I want to marry him, but I just didn''t think it would happen so soon, if it does. I was very surprised to find out that he''s been looking at rings so soon. WE have been together for only about 1 1/2 years so I guess that doesn''t seem like very long.

Well I think we started looking in June??? He bought a ring in July... and its still in our safe... Im thinking he is going to do it in December...

That makes sense! It''s all relative I suppose, right? We were together officially about 1 yr and 11 months when he proposed so almmooosst 2 years haha. For us it felt a little quick at first..but it also felt right.

I didn''t know about it, but he started looking at rings 1 year, 10 months into our relationship. He proposed for our two-year anniversary, so the looking period was a little more than a month, if you subtract the time it took for the ring to arrive. The ring wasn''t custom, so he didn''t have the long waiting period for it to be finished like a lot of couples have on PS. He said once he made the decision to ask, he wanted to do so as soon as he could. We had been thinking and talking about marriage for about a year already when he proposed.

From the first time we looked at the ring I wanted to the time he purchased it 8 months elapsed. There were little things like deciding on a budget and choosing carat and color during that time.

Hahahahaha!!!!

BF and I first went ring shopping in February 2007. It's October 2008 and I have yet to receive a proposal. However, the stone has been bought, so that is some progress. I believe he will propose in the spring or summer, 2009.

We started dating May 2006. Ring shopping 9 months in, almost 2.5 years together, which would leave 1 year and 8ish months since we first went ring shopping.

The day my husband and I went ring shopping was the day he proposed to me. We got home and I was super excited and I asked him if he''d mind if I tried it on my finger. He says I can only try it on when he proposes with it and then he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. It wasn''t quite the planned proposal I was looking for, after all, I was in my pajamas, but it was still very special

D bought my ring in July and proposed just under 3 months later. He wanted to plan a great proposal so that''s what his delay was for. It was definitely worth the wait!

I had been looking at rings for 5-6 months unbeknownst to him. Sometimes I''d gaze into the vintage diamond ring window of my favorite jewelry store and point out what I liked while he smiled and nodded. He proposed without looking at a single one, because he used his grandmother''s engagement ring.

From the first time we walked into a Tiffany store until he proposed was 10 months.

we shopped April 07, he proposed June 08, had been together about 4.5 years at that point...he took his sweet time!

For us, it was 4 months. It seemed like FOREVER though. He bought it after 2 months, but was looking for the perfect time to propose (I found out later about all that!)

Be patient and enjoy the time! The day you guys get engaged will be one of the best days of your life yet. And once that day is over you will have beautiful memories of it, so enjoy the time now!!!!

We never went ring shopping together - I basically described to him what I wanted one day - I was oblivious to the fact that he had purchased the exact ring I described the day before - he shopped for a total of 2 hours - he knew what I wanted, purchased it, and proposed a week later (3 hours after picking up the ring from the jewelers)

- Every guy is different.

I went looking in Sept of last year, he bought the setting at end of Sept 07, and then proposed on August 4, 08. So 10 months.

he bought it the day after we looked at it and proposed 3 weeks later :)

We agreed to marry without a ring. I think I received a ring about 6-8 weeks after we decided on one together, and about 3 months after we first started looking for rings.

I didn''t get a proposal. We agreed we wanted to get married and looked at rings a few times but never decided on anything. One week he went away for work and the day he came home we were so emotional we ran out to a local jeweler we knew we''d wanted to use and picked from the stock - I left with it on my hand. As an aside, I love my ring because he picked it and because it reminds me of that day and how much he loves me, but I wish we''d taken more time to look.

From the start of the ring shopping it was 14 months.

We only looked at rings once. He went back a week later and bought the one that I had said "I REALLY love that one" about. He proposed about three weeks later. He wanted to wait a little longer so it would be more of a suprise but I hinted that I wanted it before our trip to go visit my family so I could show everyone. He said he only gave into my suggestion because he realized that if he waited a couple more months we were going to have to make another trip to go see my friends and family. So I guess he decided that he might as well do it before the trip that was already planned. Hey, maybe it''s not the most romantic way in the world but at least I didn''t have to wait very long knowing the ring was hidden away somewhere!;)

BTW- we were only dating for 9 months before we got engaged. So I don''t think 1.5 years is short at all.

Lets see, started looking seriously in January and he proposed end of April.

We started looking in February and we got engaged in Sept. So 7 months. But he proposed the same day he picked up the ring from the store :)

@SarahlovesJS: Hahaha! I did the same thing to my S/O too!

I was proposed to about 6 months after he started looking at rings with me. I have a feeling he had been looking on his own for longer then that. We had been dating for five years.

We''d been looking at rings due to my hobby from almost year 1 of our relationship. He''s a digital artist, so he enjoyed designing diamond rings and rendering in 3d StudioMax. I think he modeled about 4 different rings before he showed me an Asscher in a bezel set meta halo, and I was in love. I received it 18 months later.

We were dating for 3 years before we officially decided to start looking for rings. We started looking online in June, went to a B&M store in July and he proposed in August.

We started looking in August or so of 2006, he purchased the setting maybe a month later, but the stone took us forever and I think we picked one out in December of that year. He proposed the following July 4th!
