LOL C flutist. I didn't get shrinkage fever as much as I got quality fever after I got married. I had a 1.78 77 depth, 74 table princess!!! Now I'm going for not THAT much bigger but definitely a better stone. That what satisfies me mentally for now....I think I would like a 3 carat jubilee one day...but I'm not itching for it right now..

Isn't that neat how Jennifer just bypassed the 2ct Christmas diamond and went straight to her dream 3ct diamond in a 3 week period. That's a great way to nip the shrinkage syndrome in the bud!!!

Nah, just changes the reference point. Arguably accelerates it since you skip steps.

When I first put my new ring on in the jewelry store, my very first thought was "Oh my G*d, it looks fake." Today, 3 days later, I am "used to it."

The eye does get used to things quickly but remember--I had my little 80 pt (?--we don't even know for sure), shallow cut stone for 10 years. These rapid leaps and bounds were a condensed flurry of activity long overdue. The 1.52 stone was too small for my tastes and finger size--sorry but as *purty* as my hands are, 7.5 is a bit wide and you "need" a bigger stone. Plus, I truly wanted to de done with this madness so diamonds could be fun again. I seriously doubt I'll "trade up." Sure--4 cts would be bigger, 5 would be super big but 3 cts is luscious and believable and befitting our lifestyle. In our circle of friends and family, anything more than 2 cts is huge, so 3 cts is pushing the outer limits...anything bigger would be ostentatious. Plus, there are other things to aspire to in the future--kkiller studs, a cflutist bracelet, gold & diamond watch...

I know no one here believes me but this is it. I love my stone--more every day--and my setting.

My biggest problem is how to utilize all these great bands I have collected--most fit on the right hand (tight but they fit) because I can't imagine going without my new fabulous set!

And Pricescope taught me what I needed to know to get such winners (except when it comes to my husband--I picked him out myself

). I probably would have ended up with a very good stone becasue my jeweler is so good, but Pscope really trained me to look for, then appreciate, the finer points.

my thoughts exactly!
My e-ring's perfect - no shrinkage has set in in almost six months but the lure of a RHR.... well i've already given in to temptation

custom setting's in the works

bump up this question for new p.s. members.

I kinda have this one syndrome where it looks big one day and then not on another day. I guess there''s good and bad day for everything in our lives. hehe

I Looooooooooooove!! my diamond. Sometimes it looks small (like the other day when I went to the jewelry store to get a pendant for my MIL and the sales lady had a 2.5ct HOF) but other times it looks absolutely huge!!! I just need to get finger liposuction and i''ll be good with my 1.5c!

This is kind of me too. An upgrade seemed like a huge deal for the longest time, but now I''m thinking I could get two (or more) gorgeous RHRs for the same price as an upgrade and this seems like a nicer option because I''d have two+ new rings and still have the original set my husband purchased for me. Plus, I kind of think my husband doesn''t like the idea of me replacing my rings even though he agreed to the idea so I don''t want to offend him. If I bought RHRs he''d just think I''m spoiled

It's hard to put a time-frame on it for me. I suppose it was about 2-3 years before my 1.02 carat radiant started to seem small to me. But it has been another 3-4 years before we decided to do anything about it. So now, 6 1/2 years after first getting my e-ring, we finally upgraded. My new diamond is 2.19 carats and I doubt I will go any larger since I always felt that 2 carats was my top limit. Especially with a marquise, 3 carats or more would look gigantic.

How about less that 2 weeks. I am already looking at my ring and imagining what a bigger ct size would look like. I never thought I would upgrade, but now I am like maybe. I can''t believe it.

DF does not want to hear any of this.

I look at mine all the time and I think it''s beautiful but I don''t think it''s small at all. Then there are times that I get a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye and I''m OMG! It''s HUGE! How did I get so lucky???????

A sure cure for shrinkage is to have to leave it at the jeweler''s.

Mine(6.5mm) looked a lot smaller in the Alex Sepkus setting so I went crawling back to the ol'' Tiffany style with my 50s ring guard. This time six prongs instead of four. Since this was during the holidays, the jeweler was busy & I didn''t see it for over a week and a half.

It looked *huge* when I got it back. The trick lighting in the store helped the magical reunion too.

LOL! The best I can do are a few scans for now. Keep in mind that this was primarily a *mental* hugeness after missing wearing it. The setting change is the second reason.
Side by side with the 6.5mm garnet in the old sepkus setting, it still seems slightly larger because of the prongs and thinner ring shank.

It''s not going to win any wrestling matches with the Mighty K but it''s great to have Li''l J back.

You might think this is crazy, but I haven''t even GOTTEN my diamond (scheduled for 2005), and shrinkage has occured while shopping! Originally I thought that 2 ct would be huge, but after trying them on (and on and on) I think, with my size 6.5 fingers plus 27 years of wedded bliss - I think it''s more like 3 cts! I''m going to be quiet and take a beautiful ''2'', though, because I definitely can''t afford more, but I keep thinking... Hey, a lot of cars cost what a 3 ct would cost, right? And they break down after a couple of years and are wrecks by 15 years - not so a diamond! Not to mention it would be wonderful for my daughter to inherit... (Of course I''m rationalizing!)

Ultimately, I think if you love diamonds and jewelry - it just never ends! LOL! I have a 2ct premium cut oval (well-balanced, not too deep or shallow) that looked very large at first and now a bit smaller already.  Esp. when I''m flipping through Town and Country(they have killer jewelry adverts!!) or _With This Ring_(a fun eye-candy book about wedding rings & jewelry by Penny Proddow and Marion Fasel)  *everything* looks miniscule in comparison.

Of course, when I put it next to my e-ring I get some perspective. Dh has said this will have to be it for a while, so I''ll have to live vicariously here & @ DT. I think I''m going to set the oval in some sort of halo or frame setting to s-t-r-e-t-c-h it out as much as possible. I love Treysar''s ring and I adore Reena''s!

My saving grace from this shrinkage insanity is that we live in France and most rings are itty-bitty or cluster/marguerite style(which I love lately but didn''t at first). So visiting Europe is another shrinkage cure since e-rings aren''t so popular there.

Context makes a huge difference!

Context makes a huge difference!
That''s for sure! I picked my stone size based on how it fit my hand. Bigger was too big, this was just right, and when I got it it actually looked huge to me! Then recently I''ve been around some women with amazingly large stones. One Austrailian woman''s center stone was easily as big as a dime. In that context my ring suddenly doesn''t look so big.

To counteract that I have to flash my hand in front a mirror several times, and I again realize that mine is plenty big, and looks right on my hand.
