How many bags?

I love bags! I think I have bought around 8 designer bags this year, but I also sold off my entire balenciaga collection ( I think I had 9 of them) at the beginning of the year and just recently sold 4 of my LVs, so I think I am about even.

I decided that everytime I buy a bag, I have to get rid of one of them. Especially the ones that don''t get much use. What was great with the Balenciagas was that I actually sold some of them for more than what I actually paid for them, so it wasn''t too bad.

I was reading an interview with a large handbag manufacturer who said that last year the average number of handbags a woman bought was 4-5 per year. This made me feel funny as I barely buy one per year. So my question is, how many bags do you think you buy per year? And do you think you''ll buy fewer of them in this new economy?

I am trying to find out if I am the only one who buys so few.

I buy less than one a year. One every 2-3 years, probably. And no, not pricey ones. Just...any ol'' bag.

I haven''t bought a bag since July, 2006. Pretty sad that I remember that. Actually, I put myself on a 2 year purse ban and had planned to buy one this July. I used to be a purse nut, but my purse ban seems to have made me lose interest in them. I never expected that to happen!

i get a new bag about once a year.

WELLLL......believe it or not.

I have NEVER owned a purse. NEVER. I am 28 years old and do not own a purse (and never have).

I have this weird thing where I lose EVERYTHING. Have had my drivers permit replaced about 10 times, cell phones, keys.

I decide a long time ago to die without owning a purse. Losing bits and pieces of stuff is less bad then a purse. I am very forgetful in my personal possessions.

However I think purses are BEAUTIFUL.

But back on topic, my sister buys at least 5-6 a year. She has purses for almost every outfit accumulated over the years.

Don't hate me, but I'm thinking...if you had a purse, you probably WOULDN'T lose those things! :) A purse is MUCH harder to "LOSE" than those smaller items! :)

As for me? I'm like some of you - I only buy them when they break and I HAVE TO. I'm not much of a purse fan (or shoe fan, or anything else, really...obsessions take too much work..LOL!). I have a pink one that I got at DSW maybe 2 years ago and I just love it! It's not designer or anything by any means, but it seems to be well made because it's lasted this long and nothing is wrong with it and it's just so pretty!! I had a really big bag from Walmart a few years ago that i just loved. I carried EVERYTHING in it!! But it fell apart soooo quickly that I couldn't believe it! Then, I decided I was going to downsize, so I got a smallish purse from a designer store in the outlet mall, but it was TOO small!! :-| Then when I found this one, it was JUST right! :) I feel like Goldilocks! LOL

You would be surprised. I have had wallets a few years back. I lost 3 in a year!! I would leave them places. Actually I have lost my school bag too! The worst is when you lose your wallet usually you have ALL your ID in there. So I had this huge hassle to try and replace them because I only had my birth certificate to prove it was me.

And I think my fiance knows he would end up carrying my purse to he encourages me to stay away from purses.

Imagine where I keep money for emergencies...In the glove compartment of my car!

I have one bag, and I use it until it''s dead.

I love them, and ideally I would have several so that I can mix and match with my outfit, but there are much more important things in my life to spend my money on.

Wellllll, I''m not sure if I count for anything as I only recently started buying ''grown up'' bags. Before last year, I had bought one ''real'' bag (not super cheap fall-apart from forever 21 or target types) ever, which was a coach bag that I''m currently trying to get rid of.

So last year I bought 3 bags--2 real ''handbag'' types (durable, long-lasting, leather), and one canvas beach-bag type of handbag. This year I''ve bought 4--3 high quality, in varying sizes, and one beat-up kinda bag. 3 are great for everyday, and the rest of them serve really different purposes. I still use all but one of those bags, and I think I will for years to come. So I think I''m still in ''building my bag wardrobe'' mode. I doubt that I''ll buy more than 2 per year from now on, unless I come into a LOT of dispensable income.

Someone on the purse forum said that in LA, all you need is a couple of nice jewelry pieces and a great handbag-then you can wear ripped up jeans and a wifebeater tank and you''ll still look ''high-end''

I guess I''ve taken that to heart!

I think I''m in the same place as musey, life-wise - I''m just finishing up grad school and preparing to enter the work force in a much more professional/formal setting, and so I''m building a bag wardrobe. I expect to buy about 3-4, possibly even more bags over the course of the next 18 months, but then will probably slow down significantly after that.

I have bags for evening events of the small sparkly variety and I probably buy about one a year of those - normally spend about $20-$30 max.

I have one actual bag though. The current one I bought in 2004 and it''s still going strong. I paid $120 at a factory outlet. It''s from Clarks and in brown leather. Not a designer name, but their products are good quality.

My wallet is black leather and from Prada - I bought it at their factory outlet in Italy in 2000. I paid about $40 (factory price plus 50% discount through a friend who worked there).

I only replace things when they are dead - although I''m vaguely looking for a black bag as I like my shoes/gloves/bags to match and I''m thinking of buying black boots this year.

I don''t think that I buy that many in a year. I love handbags almost as much as I love bling, but if I buy a new one I sell an already loved one.

Kittybean, you should be able to clean the fabric on your Coach bag with a little soap and water. It''s done the trick for many of my Coach bags over the years. (I learned you could do that from one of the little cards that came with a bag once).

Ahh, I''m such a sucker for a cute bag.. I probably buy around 5 bags a year? Gosh, now that I think about it- I think I''ve bought about 5 in the last few months alone. Depending on the season, I usually have a favorite bag for day and then mix it up at night. (So THAT''S where all my money goes!)

WOW!! I guess you know yourself better than anyone, so don''t listen to me!! LOL. However, let''s just hope you never lose your car!!

I''m a bit of a bag nut so I have too many, I had to get a shelf built in my crap college apartment just so I could fit them somewhere, somehow stuffing my precious bags into shopping bags while in their dustbags just wasn''t doing it for me.

As far as how many per year, depends on how good my year has been and sometimes on who I''m dating

This year has been a bit of a freak spree... This year I''ve bought 4 LV bags (and a wallet), received another LV as a gift, 1 Fendi, 1 Gucci, 2 Marc Jacobs. Otherwise I think I average 2 quality bags a year.

Ever since this jewelry obsession has started though, it''s getting hard to choose... when I look at Lv bags now I think "Hmm... I could buy myself a nice ring with that."

I never thought about it but that is definitely true of not only L.A. but also NJ and NY... even on my most horribly bummy days, as long as I throw on my jewelry, a fabulous bag, and my aviators, I feel like a million bucks
