Thanks all!

I love it too. And yes, in accordance with what Mara said, the top part does look funny in the picture. It''s partly due to the bra I was wearing and the size of my boobs in my out-of-shape figure. Still, I talked to the girl because I too felt that the lines of the sheer part were disrupted by the boobs and she mentioned some alterations that could be done to fix it (i.e. dew a piece of fabric at the bottom of the sheer part underneath the corset that more or less "pulled" the part straight.

I will look into getting it made as well :) I suppose my concern in getting it made is that it won''t end up being close enough to what I want...still, if it cost 2k to make it I would save 2k!

:)

I am sorry (don''t get mad at me) but I don''t think the dress is flattering on you. The top looks kind of funny to me. The more sheer fabric down the center splits your boobs and makes you look wider. That part just look odd to me. I don''t like the two pieces of fabric hanging down either. I think they distract from the layering skirt. It''s definitely an unique and non bridal dress though. Are you sure that conservative enough for your Asian family? It''s quite sexy IMO, so I don''t know if your family might feel the same way. I personally isn''t feeling the dress, but maybe the picture isn''t doing it justice. Do you really think you can wear the dress again? I think it''s so unique that your guest would recognize it if they saw you wear it again. I don''t think you should dye it either. It''s different dying sheet of fabric vs a dress.

Here''s what I spend:
Wedding gown - $524 + $125 for alterations
QiPao - $500
Qun Kwa - $150
Evening gwon - $130
That''s a total of $1429

I personally can''t image spending $4K on a dress, but in the end, if you are in love with it and you can afford the $4K price tag, then go for it.

Snowhappy,

I think that you could look great in a lot of dresses, but I really do not think this is a good one. You have a beautiful figure, and could do much better than this one. Just my opinion, but I REALLY think you could do way better. Tiffany

Snow_Happy,

I wouldn''t spend too much on a wedding dress. You are only guaranteed to wear it once. 4K is a huge amount of money that could be better spent elsewhere. I agree that the dress is lovely, but the top is alittle off.

I had no pre-conceived notions about my dress. I was very open to anything. So I braved the Filene''s Basement wedding gown sale. Mind you this is 20 years ago.

My dress cost $112.50. It''s gorgeous--made of China silk.
Alterations $150,00
Veil $235.00 (Way too much $$$ in hindsight)

Best of luck!!!

Thanks for the feedback :) I will keep all the comments in mind when I go dres shopping tomorrow! The dress does look significantly better in real life, though I do think it will be great to try on more. Maybe it''s like shopping for a house...there''s lots of great houses that you will be happy in ;) We shall see...I''m going to keep an open mind...well... sort of... I never wanted a wedding wedding dress so maybe I''m a bit abnormal

I just bought my today (woo hoo!) and after taxes it was $329.00 from David''s Bridal. Our entire wedding won''t cost as much as your dress but I think it all depends on where you are financially and what you value the most. If it''s your dress, the one you feel beautiful in, and the money isn''t an issue as in you won''t struggle to pay bills because you bought that dress, then I say go for it.

ALL RIGHT! I tried on tons of dresses in a wide price range and fell further in love with the dress that I posted earlier (it looks a billion times better in real life - I promise!). Morgane LeFay was our last stop yesterday while trying on brides and bridesmaids dresses (my MOH and I). I was excited to show the MOH because she is extremely sensible about money but knows when to splurge as well. She said that she came into the store (knowing how much the dress costs) and didn't want to like it...but she absolutely loved it after seeing it on me. She also said that she understood now why I wasn't elated when I tried on other dresses earlier that she thought looked amazing on me and that we will work on a plan so that I can afford it! Afterwards, at dinner, she kept talking about the dress and said she couldn't stop thinking about the dress either and how much it fit my personality and style. So...I'm getting the dress...don't know how but I am...and I'm happy.

(it doesn't need alterations by the way :))

My FI called me today and said that he is going to work extra hard on his spring break to put as much money as possible into the "dress fund" ! He's so cool

HI Snow,

I love the dress on you. It looks gorgeous. Congrats on finding your perfect dress =)

I myself am spending $4000 on the dress and I know I am never going to wear it again and I really don't care. I am defintely NOT rich but the way I feel in the dress is worth every penny.

I spent $604.00 on my dress-10% off sale. Here is picture of me in it-yucky yucky veil. It is actually a horrible picture but when I put that dress on and saw how it looked on me, I didn''t want to try on another dress. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

Here is the link to the dress when you look normal in it and not dorky with a big ole'' veil. SHEESH!

And here is me-what a big cheese!! I took my head off the pic.

OH my GOD!!! I am so sorry about that post. WHAT THE FREAK HAPPENED to the picture? Oh I am soooooo sooooooo sorry!

dcsvnnhpch -- Your dress is beautiful! I love the lace look. I can tell it also looks nice on you despite the pixelated pictured. What probably happened is you have a large low-resolution picture. Try to open the picture in Microsoft Picture Manager or Photoshop and resize the picture. :)

Let''s try this dumb thing again.

And it''s not working-never mind.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-it''s not working. It''s still to big.

Okay last time!!

I can see the pic (the second and smaller one) :)

Snow_Happy,

I am delighted for you that you! Like I said earlier, dress price means different things to different people.
You have found a lovely and original dress that makes you HAPPY! Good for you.
I hope you are thrilled and excited!!!

Snow, I think the dress looks great!

I'm sure it does look better in real life they always do. I love how intersting and unique it is. Its what I call a "fun" dress. I know what you mean now. Its hard to get a very unique dress for less than a certain amount. My dress also has a bit of an unusual flare, which is what I wanted, but I had the most difficult time finiding it under $3K.

However, you do have to realize that not everyone is going appreciate that kind of style, especially those that like the more traditional dresses. I get it but others may not.

You should definately look into getting it re-designed by someone. The only concern I would have however is making sure that it will be made up to a similar level of quality. Private designers or tailers that specialize in these type of things can mimic the style but will often fail in making the same level of quality dress (for example in how neat and tight thier stitching is). To me that is what seperated designers like kenneth pool, vera wang, etc and the private designers I saw.

I just bought my dress this weekend, at a small boutique in town, and I only went in to try dresses on thiking I wouldn''t actually be able to afford to buy one!!! But to my surprise they had a sale rack and I found the perfect dress!!! It was regularly $930, and I got it for $99!!!!!! I was absolutely thrilled, especially since my budget is so very small!!!

YAY!!! I''m so happy for you!!! I thought it looked gorgeous on you (& so unique!) and was worried you would end up regretting it for the rest of your life if you didn''t just go for it! It sounded like your heart was really in it, and I''m so glad you decided to find a way to make it work! Congratulations!!!

Alterations were $200..
7.gif

So $1100 altogether..

My veil was $300 though.. that was my biggest splurge..
shoes were $50
got my bra/slip thing for like $50 I think too..

I truly LOVE my dress, and i didn''t pay an arm and a leg for it, I found a beautiful Demetrios dress that I not only fell in love with, even though i always pictured myself wearing a thin, plain, sheath of a dress, but my mother and 3 best friends all looked at me in the shop with mouths gaping wide stating that that dress was The One...
well, I wasn''t about to pay 5,000 dollars that i didn''t have on a dress that i will wear for one day....
so,
being from NY where there are ridiculous amounts of possibilities around for faux anything....
i researched small boutique shops, one in Staten Island, that would make a copy of my dress...i brought lots and lots of pictures, and they made it, and it looks incredible...and only cost me 800 bucks...with 100 in alterations...making my dress a grand total of 900 and i got something that looks just like a Demetrios couture gown....
very exciting...
shhhhhh...don''t tell anyone,....

I bought my dress in 2001. I couldn''t get rid of it, because I bought it based on its beauty. I still think it''s beautiful -- has ornate beadwork, and three straps (one halter, two shoulder), and isn''t a common look. The bodice is satin, and the skirt is tulle. I have a veil to match the beadwork, along with a flower girl dress to match the bodice'' beadwork. I bought shoes that have beads, too, along with a tiara. Specs:

Cheri dress: $750
Veil: $450
Tiara: $200
Shoes: $150
Total: $1550

I got a great deal on a pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes -- white satin with beads that almost match the ones on my bodice.

I''m not engaged yet, but I will be soon. My BF thinks I should use this dress (I never wore it, because I broke our engagement) for our wedding, because I still love it. I''m thinking about it.. But there''s also a delicious style by Pronovias that I''ve pondered.

Besides, I paid for all this in 2001, so I really wouldn''t be spending anything come the time for our wedding.

My wedding dress is actually a bridesmaid dress by Bill Levkoff. It''s really simple (some of you made have seen my post about my dress and alteration issues),the dress is ivory and then there''s a sash that is light blue and it drops to the ground, basic A-line. I had never heard of him before, but I love all of his dresses!! With that being said, the dress was $184 and the alterations are going to be $85...making the grand total $269

One of my friends is getting married in June and I am a bridesmaid in her wedding and the dress and shoes for her wedding cost more than mine! I really lucked out with my dress.

I got my dress on eBay for $300 + $20 for shipping/insurance

My alterations were $150 which included the bustle & re-working of the skirt of the gown. (My seamstress took out 2 layers of the skirt & replaced them with a lighter fabric so I won''t die of heat on the beach!)

So the total cost of dress + alterations was $470

I got my dress at a normal dress shop - I''m doing a simple beach ceremony. It was marked down to $99.50. However they didn''t have my size so they had to ship it from another store.

When I got it, I was horrified. There were red (lipstick?) marks at the neckline of the dress and the spagetti straps were dirty (from hanging or touching dirty people, I suppose). I called the salesperson back and she apologized, and gave me another 50% off. She did offer to give me a full refund, but I think I can save the dress, and if I find something else, I''m not out that much money. Good to have a backup, I suppose.

So my dress was 50 bucks. My boyfriend is a bit scared at the sound of my cheap dress

! But it is actually quite pretty, and most importantly for a white simple dress, NOT SEE THROUGH!

About $900 total (dress + alterations).

$249 on ebay, plus $20 for shipping.
