Hi guys,
As some of you may recall, I''m getting a ring made for my husband (Basic Man''s ring from Ahern & Brucker) with 2 side diamonds (.20''s each) & a center blue sapphire (.60-.70). I''m still on the hunt for the sapphire but those are the ct. ranges, or 5.0 to 5.5mm diameter.
I have checked out Natural Sapphire Comp. & cherrypicked doesnt have anything that small. Also, I''m being picky about it being untreated/unheated. Nat.Sapp.Comp. has some nice looking stones, & the exceptional ones are scooped up pretty fast. There are a lot of shallow cut stones & strategically placed lights to make the stones look really good. This is becoming so much work!
What I''d like to know is, how many of us here would buy a stone untreated, say for $600. Would you trust the vendor to trust the supplier & everyone be honest so you could just take all their words for it, or would you obtain a cert (for about $130) to make sure that the stone was in fact what it was supposed to be?
I guess if I''m about to spend $600 for a stone then I should just fork over the money to get it certed. Is that nuts for a small stone? The uneasy thing about buying a stone untreated is that its impossible for us lay people to ever know.
