Too funny - I was thinking the same thing! Engaged at 32, married at 33. He was definitely worth the wait, though.

It wasn''t until I started law school that I felt really young & realized my age was a bit below the national average. The rudest comment I''ve heard was, "I couldn''t even DREAM of being married yet, and I''m 27!" My response was that I''m 22 (I was at the time) and couldn''t imagine NOT being married to FI. I just think I''m lucky to already be with my best friend and love of my life.... I don''t feel I''ve missed out on being "young and reckless." I much prefer my life with FI than my life pre-FI. I feel like my age is not a reflection of me though. I''ve travelled quite a bit more than most people, finished college, got a great job starting me out on a wonderful professional path.

My husband also has travelled, finished college, got a great job (before getting laid off....) and was lucky to graduate with no loans so he bought a house at 24 yrs old. So I feel like we were for sure ready for everything to just "start." We were together 16 months when we got engaged.

I can beat yours... my comment wasn't an age thing, just a stab at marriage in general..
but when I told two of the guys I work with (hey guys, Jay and I got engaged on saturday!)

they said
"what? why the F*** did you do that?" guy 1
"yeah, you must be stupid!" guy 2
"are you kidding me?" me
"no! now you guys are going to get divorced!" guy 1
"well we've been together for 4 years now so I don't know where your getting this idea" me

i walked away so steamed!

.. I felt so attacked and offended. It really bugged me all day.

These were two adult men with two to three kids each... all by different mothers...
They have since been arrested for DRUG trafficking.
But yeah, it stung.
If one of them had told me their gf was pregnant again, I would have smiled, said "congrats" and left it at that. regardless of whether or not I agreed with their choice..

I completely agree with everything you said here. FI and I say that all the time.. most people our age don't seem to "get it" tho.

I was 23 when we started dating, exactly one month shy of 27 when we got engaged, and 27 when we married. I''m 29 now.

He was 34 when we started dating, 37 when he proposed, and 38 when we married. He''s 39 now.

I think people make unsavory comments about people who marry young because we tend to look back at ourselves at younger ages and realized how little we knew then, no matter what age we are now. That doesn''t make it okay to say unkind things, of course.

I got engaged pretty soon after my 21st birthday, but I had graduated from college at the ripe age of 20, so I didn't get as many awkward comments since a lot of people didn't know my age, just that I had graduated already. Hehe. And then when I started med school, a lot of people were engaged or married, so people didn't really raise eyebrows.

We got married last August when I was 22, he was 26. No worries, we both did our share of wild-oat sowing beforehand.
