How should I set it?

Hi CS ladies (and gents)

I purchased what is, IMO a really pretty namanga garnet from customgemstones a couple of months ago and I have no idea what to do with it! I originally wanted to set it in a three stone ring with fancy yellow diamond sidestones but I just cannot justify spending more than 1K on a setting for a $100 stone.

I know some people on here have gotten some beautiful settings from etsy vendors and I'm looking for suggestions.

Here are the stats from Dan:
STONE: Namanga Garnet
WEIGHT: 1.01 Cts.
CUT: Square Emerald
DIMENSIONS: 5.13 mm
ORIGIN: Kenya
COLOR: Purple Pink
CLARITY: Very Good (Eye Clean)
TREATMENT: None

I think I will want to bezel the stone since I love the outline of it so much but I'm just not sure what to do with the rest of the ring. I want it to look like an RHR and not a solitaire so maybe a split shank bezel? I just don't know!

Please help, any ideas and vendor suggestions are welcome!

Lovely garnet! I think a split-shank RHR sounds nice. Here's what I've done with similar stones through Etsy vendors:

Split-shank bezel ring with approx. 7mm classic Asscher prasiolite (Julia Kay Taylor):

3-stone necklace with approx. 5mm modified Asscher tanzanite (Daniel M):

Pretty color! Namanga garnet? I swear sometimes I think you guys are making these names up :)) . I'm obviously not a CS person
but I love to look. What about a simple bezel a-la LaurenThePartier?

Or something by Danial M

Oh the ring is really pretty! That's pretty close to what I think would look good for my stone which is much smaller than yours I think. I tried contacting JKT awhile back for a different project and I just remember her telling me she was booked for quite awhile so I'm not sure about bothering her again.

Thanks for the visual!

Have you considered Daniel M on etsy? he made this for me, and it's perfect. His prices were way less than JKT too.

I'm in the process of having another asscher ring made, this time w/ a single shank instead of the split.. think it's the bridge design they currently have in a store.

Thanks that's pretty perfect! I'm going to contact Daniel for sure.

I normally only wear white gold, how does the argentium silver compare? I guess with silver I am most concerned with tarnishing and scratching. Thanks again!

DanielM works in silver gold and platinum, so if you want WG they can do it. But I agree, a plain simple bezel a la LTP would be stunning! what a great color in that stone!

Thanks! I will def contact Daniel once I get my ideas shored up and save up some money!

What a great color! It looks either grape soda or raspberry sherbet -- either way, yummmmm. I really like the Daniel M. design -- would be so nice in that.

Fortekitty's amethyst ring looks a lot like JKT's work, but with a fraction of the wait time (and I'm sure a fraction of the price!). But that's the problem with JKT. She's an amazing artist, but you have to book months in advance, and she has a $275 minimum price now. I absolutely love her work and may still go to her when I set my tsav or for other pieces I've invested a lot in. For a smaller, less expensive stone, I've become a Dan M devotee. Daniel M has made 5 pieces for me so far and hasn't disappointed. His bezels seem fine for faceted stones, though they might not be so great for cabs, not that it makes a difference for your stone! But see MTG's star sapphire thread for more on that.

I also hear Jill Anish (janishjewels) makes great bezels, but I haven't worked with her yet.

Looking at Fortekitty's Daniel M asscher bezel, it looks like there'd be room on the sides if you wanted Daniel to add a tiny rose- or yellow-gold ball on each side (a la Jstarfireb's JKT ring) - it's a commonly used flourish so there's no copyright issues or anything like that... By the way, I love your Garnet asscher - very pretty!
