Hi

I was wondering whether there was a formula to calculate the adjusted depth for a radiant (l/w 1.32).

Thanks

Great question,
Stan Grossbard who posts here occasionally as "RadiantMan" developed exactly what you are asking about.
If you so a search for "Original Radiant Cut" you will probably find posts by him- there's a link to the Original Radiant website ( where you'll find an explanation) in his signature.

Thanks for that, I have been on to the original radiant cut website, but couldn't see details of the calculation. I know that you judge radiants by eye rather than purely by number though, this was just to dot the i's and cross the t's!

thanks

The difficulty with calculating any of the measurements for a radiant cut is the pure number of variables in the cut process as it combines straight edges, long (step-cut) facets and triangular (brilliant) facets. Your best bet with a radiant cut is what it looks like to you. As Rockdiamond said, this is the purview of Stan Grossbard – and his ultimate test was visual – what can you see and do you like it? If you wish to go with an ”Original Radiant Cut” – do it with your eyes… no numbers will cross those T’s or dot those I’s better… <-- to be honest I was trying to come up with a clever way to tell you to ‘dot your eyes’ and cross your T’s, but it just wouldn’t come to me. I hope you have found an incredible diamond!
