Right now I''m liking one ideal cut 2.0 ct with a J VS1 that is perfectly within my budget. This will no doubt be a stupid question, but how "yellow" do you guys think a J will be (GIA grade), and will it be acceptable visually to a woman? My gf seen an I before in Jared and she thinks it is ok.

It is in the eye of the beholder for sure. Some don''t mind it, some find it visually unappealing. But really it will be more "warm" than yellow.

Thanks. Very very nice diamond you have there. From the pics, you can''t tell at all its a J. May I ask what size is the diamond?

Also, does it matter if the mount will be silver in color?

You mentioned your girlfriend has seen an I stone already, but you didn''t mention how large that stone was.

Body warmth becomes more noticeable as the size of the stone goes up, so if she saw a large well-cut I stone, she''ll likely be good with a J, too.

I''ve personally seen Mara''s 2.32 J, Kt''s former 2.28 J, and her 2.24 J stone. All have been lovely; the warmth isn''t glaringly apparent. It''s noticeable if one is expressly looking for it in certain lighting, but otherwise pretty subtle. If she''s not color sensitive and it''s well-cut, I''d bet a J would be a fine choice.

Thanks Allison for the golden words! The I that she saw is of a 2.0 ct as well, and its IGI graded. Is it true that you can discount a grade or two if the grader is IGI (i.e an I from IGI is roughly equivalent to a J from AGS/GIA)

My stone is 2.75ct. It should not matter in a J. I have a platinum setting with pave stones that are actually G in color and you can not tell the difference.

Thanks Emerald. Btw, I''m browsing through the pages of your e-ring right now.....and it look well stunning!

To be sure with a non AGS/ GIA graded diamond, make the sale final on the diamond checking out with an independant appraisal ( and get it in writing).

Here is a page which tells you how the grading labs rank.

You''re most welcome.

If the 2ct. I she saw was an IGI and you''re planning to get a well cut J graded by AGS or GIA, I''d say NO worries. You''ll be completely fine.

FYI, all three of the monster J stones I''ve seen (listed earlier) were set in white metals, too.

I think it should be fine. It won''t be actually be ''yellw'', rather it will be ''warm''. Some warm stones look very nice. Also, if the diamond is cut really well, you won''t really be able to notice. It will look brilliant no matter what

I would say with the J colour diamonds I have seen, that they aren't noticeably warm face up even in the large sizes, there can be a very slight tint from the side in some lights but a reliably graded J will still be a white diamond, the white is slightly softer than the icy white colourless but still white. Warm to me doesn't begin to be noticeable face up until lower down the colour scale.

You did not note what the shape is. I have a J VS1 princess from whiteflash rated 4 stars for cute and its RARELY that I can even see any warmth at all and when i do it''s in certain lights and at a certain angle. Who runs around looking at their rings like that all the time!

I am glad to hear that an ideal cut J colored stone will face up white. I am interested in getting a 2.0 RB J color for a prong halo setting. Do you think if the melee diamonds are F/G it still won''t affect the visual perception of the center stone? (Sorry for the thread jump).

Oh I''m sorry, it is a RB.
