Hubby said yes to a 3 stone EC diamond ring for our 40th!!

The latest 2 are very contrasty, with a white background in ASET, black is looking right into the middle of the scope, a very small area equivalent of returning light off your nose.
The second one shows a lot of black in ASET black but the other images say its drawing light from the center of the scope not leakage.
This is less visible with 2 eyes but can be a serious issue.
9.2% crown height is not a good sign, everything has to be perfect to have chance at that ch.

Is it that the center of the 3.03 H is black? What do you mean by returning light off your nose?

The 3.01 G VVS2 (which I haven't seen IRL yet) has a red center. That looks similar (to me) to the BG black ASET I posted above. Is it worth getting the more detailed specs on this to look at CH and other proportions?

What would an ideal crown height be?

Flip your aset scope over, you see the tiny hole in the center where the lens is, that is what is showing up as black in the ASET images.
The blue you see looking up into the scope represents you looking at the stone, so if you scale up the blue to your head size the area its drawing light from is a lot smaller than your head.
That means it has to move a lot to draw light.

CH generally 14% plus but I have recommended a few down to 10%-11% because everything else was near perfect.
 
Thanks. I thought the blue represented blockage from above. I was wondering what the black was. I know I see black in most EC's when they are circling around in the videos. I jus thought that was the one of the "mirrors" that wasn't at the right angle for light to reflect.

Is it worth bringing in the 3.01 G VVS2?

What makes it confusing is the black you see in regular videos is often blue and sometimes red in ASET but can be black in aset from the center of the cap, not leakage.
The entire tool chain from ASET to the video setups was all developed around the modern round brilliant and fancies are an after thought.

The JA 3.04 is beautiful!
 
How do you feel about JA. I’ve noticed a subtle shift over the years to WF.
 
In trying to look objectively at these videos. I see what looks to me to be narrower bands of reflection. I'm assuming that will give me quicker flashes and better light return. How does it work with JA? When I call, do they have the diamond in stock for the rep to look at? Can they get me ASET and Idealscope images and hand shot videos in different lights?

The reason I asked about JA is I've put my basic parameters in several vendors but even if I leave price totally open, I get 0 returns. JA seems to have a lot of EC's.

I've also reached out to Jann Paul to see what their price range is for 3ct EC. Waiting for reply. I know it will be a premium price, but I won't have to worry about quality.
 
And, if what I've read, I can get it duty free which might help take out the sting of the premium.
 
I just looked again at the 3.04. The LW ratio is 1.29. I'm looking for 1.4-1.5 range because if I want to make it a 3 stone I'd like it a tad longer and then find the right proportions for the side stones,
 
I like the CH on all 3.
All you can tell from those videos is if they have potential.
The 3.04 has the highest potential but as you noted is not what your looking for your ring.
The h/vs1 3.01 Im thinking is going to have a ton of green in ASET and real world not as bright.
The yellow is environmental not the diamond itself.
JA does have a physical store in NY that you can have diamonds sent to for viewing.
IDJ should also be able to call in a lot of the stones on JA if you would rather go that route.
JA unless they changed recently is not providing ASET/IS images unless the supplier has them which is a big part of the reason they have fallen from favor.

The video, spin it so you can see the side.
The flat line is the girdle so you look at what is above that line.
All 3 in this thread have a healthy CH.
Flat tops are not hard to find, just pick some random ones to compare.

I just wanted to say that if you decide that natural, earth-mined diamonds are what you want, why not try the Costco one that someone posted?

We have a lovely PSer who has a gorgeous WF diamond and an equally gorgeous emerald cut three stone from Costco.

Also, I think that there is time and place for lab diamonds for many people. However, you are a Mom of Five and are celebrating your 40th anniversary--get what you really want!

Just my two cents :)

Thank you. I didn’t see this one either. Must be 1/31!! Anyway, I really started to feel like I was getting into the stratosphere with $$ and I’m mind clean with the LG and feel a lot less guilty.
