This is only a layperson's opinion but even if I had $249,000 to spend on this diamond hell would freeze over first.

Don't get me wrong. It's beautiful.

But I could buy an entire collection of jewels for the price- incredible price. :errrr:

I concur. Although I have a feeling that anyone buying this diamond has $249k and then some to spare.

If only I had buckets of money!

I have to say I agree too..sticker shock is right!

I also had the thought, you could possibly achieve a similar effect by seeking out a stone with very strong blue fluor - sure, it wouldn't have its blue tone except in certain lighting environments, but it also wouldn't have the grey component.

I could buy quite a collection of August Vintage OEC's and cushions for that amount of money! I understand the rarity of the color, but I could get a blue color fix from a gorgeous sapphire. That diamond looks pretty, but it wouldn't tempt me if it was $24,900.

I agree: If I am going for blue I would get a sapphire.

It certainly is pretty...I'm sure its on Kenny's short list!

Ridiculous price! I'm happy David don't use their 500 watts lights to make the video this time! :naughty:

It's a beautiful diamond but no way I'm gonna pay this price for 1 ct diamond. Blue or not!

Well in this case listing didn't do itself any favours by doing the usual pavilion lit tweezers shot. I suspect for that color and price its a better color than it appears under those lighting conditions. Really not a good idea to light the pavilion to accurately show the saturation of color in a gem.

Equating shorter lower halves in a round diamond with two cushion descriptions "Old Mine Brilliant and Old Mine Cut."

This was 99.9% likely to be cut and polished in 2009 - 2010 so old seems highly inappropriate, see grading report.

Finding a shopper who doesn't doesn't know the difference between round and cushion, old and new, has the pocketbook to pay $250k and hasn't seen better comparables for that money, and is willing to ignore or doesn't notice the half dozen or so factual mistakes in that listing has got to be a tall order.

Then again it doesn't take much to borrow a diamond or photograph and video it at the supplier, take some video and photographs and generate a listing and then return the stone.

Perhaps its good advertising but I wouldn't hold my breath about a sale.

Perhaps it's not for you, it's certainly out of my budget, but you may find it difficult to find another one like it for less if you decided you wanted one and isn't that part of the definition of 'ridiculous' price?

Is that your professional opinion without having examined the cut and color in person?
Have you done a comparables study on the pricing?
How close would this stone look beside a MMD that cost about 15k for the same size, cut and grade of color?

CCL,

I haven't looked at at all, and you'll notice that I gave no value opinion at all. Stci did. I *DO* think that a GIA graded natural fancy grey-blue would be a difficult item to find and my guess is that it will be pricey if you can find one. I would be tickled to do a full appraisal on this item, then I can answer the question. All it needs is a client. That may be difficult but there ARE still a few people out there with that kind of budget.

If "difficult to find another one like it for less" is not a a value opinion than I don't know what is.
Calling something pricey and validating that you won't find a comparable for less are quite different wouldn't you say?

One relates to a very broad range (ie a 1 carat fancy blue is a lot more expensive than 1 carat H )
The other one relates to a very precise indication of value, ie you won't find another 1 carat fancy greyish blue round for under 250k.
