I had an I diamond appraised today, and was told that it was a K.

Sorry, mostly my fault.

I apologize to Harriet.

He said he looked a tit in all kinds of light, and just couldn''t give it even a J.
is this one of those industry terms i''ve never heard of before?
I''ve corrected it. Mea culpa.
Harriet, my bad....i hope i didn''t offend you. i was just trying to adding levity. good luck in your search for your pet rock.

phew! I finally got to the end of the twelve pages and would love some pie. Anyway, I feel Harriet that if you cannot look at the ring in the way that you are meant to with an engagement ring, then I think that you should return it. You are meant to adore this ring and if you do not feel that, I feel that you might need to find a new one

No offence taken. It is a funny error.

Harriet, as you can see, some of us didn''t have anything to do last night, and your thread turned into a chat thread!

But I just wanted to say that we have gained by learning through your experience, and I really hope you will allow us to see the diamond you finally choose. Three carat stones are not exactly common even here, so we do sincerely enjoy seeing them when they come along. And pictures of the finished ring are even better!

Given the help I''ve received from some of you, I''d be delighted to show you my final ring.

ooooooo, ooooooo, oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I can''t wait to see the final ring. Best wishes!!

Harriet,

Have you made a decision on whether or not to keep the diamond?

Has anyone here bought a J or below Whiteflash "A Cut Above"?

Haven''t bought one... but I''ve seen Mara''s 2+ carat J which I believe is ACA from WF and it''s STUNNING. But I''ve recently dicovered that I like the warmth of the H-J stones. I will say that, face up, Mara''s shines very white and that because of the cut when compared to other J diamonds I''ve seen. I don''t know what the effect of the larger carat size would have on it though. WF has a nice return policy... have you seen it in person?

Harriet,

I have a 2.5 K VS2 ES Selection from Whiteflash that I absolutely love. I also had a 1.19 J ACA that I traded in for the "K"

My only regret is it''s not a 3 carat

Please post pics when you get your ring

Has anyone got a picture of Mara''s 2ct J stone ? I have heard nothing but positives about it and would really like to see it.

Thanks for the link ladies. That really is a stunning looking diamond - the more I look at such pics the more I think I / J colour is the way to go in a well cut round. The money saved should be put towards more carat weight

lol Was searching while Mara was posting!

I''m beginning to think that way myself. My e-ring is an F, but when I upgrade it will probably be a J. My wedding band has .31 I stones...and it would have been fine with K''s even.

Harriet, I just bought a J VS2 1.76 ES from WF. It was supposed to be an ACA ( has all the right cut specs) but was graded with strong blue flur so Brian would not take it as an ACA. So into the ES and my lucky hands it went!

I have to tell you that this is the most amazing stone I have ever seen. I do not see any hint of color( except for those firey flashes!!) It has such great sparkle and brilliance! ( I only wish it was as large as yours!!

)

Just take some time and look at the diamond. You are the one who has to wear it, so you must love it. Trust me when I tell you people will be amazed at the display the stone puts on, no one is going to ask you anything about it except....OH MY GOSH, what size is that bolder?!?!!!

What ever you decided to do everyone here seems to be behind you 100% and I am sure we all can''t wait to see the final result!

Good Luck

KT

Thats so very true. I like to see a pretty face as much as any other man, but I am embarrased to say that lately I have been taking a keener interest in fingers. No it's not a fetish but just me trying to see what women are wearing. I have attended more than my fair share of dinner parties etc and in my experience when/if the talk turns to a new piece of jewellery, I have never heard anyone say -

1. "OH MY GOD, that stone is so eye clean"
2. "That stone is so white it must be in the colorless band".
3. "AGS0?"
4. etc etc

What does come up time and time again are three simple comments (or something similar) -

1. "Wow that stone is huge"
2. "That setting is so elegant"
3. "That stone shines so much"

So I am thinking about buying a near colourless (I/J), well cut (bling), honker of a round stone and topping it with a corker of a setting. If that doesnt work, I have been hanging out with the wrong crowd

You'll be doin' good, SKR!
I'll also be doing well when I find the money !! Well cut rounds cost a ton of notes.

I'm curious -- Who would buy the infamous stone at issue (assuming the budget permits it)?

Harriet - i have limited interest in buying the stone in question. Not because there is anything wrong with it but simply because once I can afford it, I will probably want to go slightly bigger.

Are you still mulling it over and have you been speaking to WF ?

Can you find something bigger that's as well-cut? (I'm not sure my stone should be any larger -- my fingers are a short 5.5 in size, and I have to buy kids' gloves.)

Yes.

the real question is do you love it?

if I did I would keep it if not return it.

i don''t have it with me. It''s gone from appraiser to appraiser.

I have a J and I love it.... the color and clarity of this stone are great IMO. The cut is great too - if I were to be picky I''d want more fluor but that''s pretty much it! Maybe a slightly smaller table, but I''m picking nits that are irrelevant to the issue that''s given you pause. The color wouldn''t give me pause. I *prefer* the warmer stones because they''re warmer and less cold. It''s a personal preference. If I were to buy another diamond I might get a D strong blue but for my main diamond I''m very very happy to have gotten the one I did.
