Kudos to both Matadora and Jen on their new jobs.

Congrats and much good luck and prosperity, and of course promotions and advancement in your new careers.

I''m sure you''ll do fine Matatora! Glad to see we''re nervous for the EXACT same reasons (besides the working with kids part. I don''t know how you do it)! Every job I had before was only 20 hours or so. At one point I was holding multiple jobs to get by, but now.... 8 to 4 every day, 5 days a week....

I had a tour of the building (which is BEAUTIFUL by the way) and the only downside I saw so far: My desk/workspace will be right next to the evidence vault and I''ll have to smell stale marijuana all day long... Yuck...

So what exactly will you be researching?? As a fellow scientist, I''m SOOOOOOOOO curious!
I did a brief internship there this summer studying the yuck factor, and they also do research on other things related to gametes and stem cell. I will be working in the lab, so it is a great opportunity to learn.

Congratulations, Mat!!!! I''m super excited for you! BEST of luck!

Wow - where is this magical place that doesn''t abide by the 50 hr work week?

Ha ha, it''s a state government job and because I''m starting out as OPS, they''re pretty strict about overtime (heaven forbid they should pay overtime!). If I was salary, then that would be a different story.

Congrats on the new job Mat!

I am curious though, I thought you were hoping to work in family therapy/counseling. Is your switch to biology work temporary until grad school or are you jumping ships?

I ask because we have similar histories. I started my undergrad as a psych major and did research in child development (focusing on learning and memory), finished my psych degree, decided to stay and finish a bio degree and now I work in molecular biology research. My advisors found my progression amusing but apparently I''m not the only one

Hi sweetie, I just found this post and was also wondering what had become of your clinical psych plans. Either way, congrats!!

MelissaSue- No grad school for me. ;-( There was only one program I was interested in and I did not get in.

Rainbow Trout- I know how you feel, it is so exciting…and a bit SCARY!

PeonyGirl- I did not get into Baylor, so I went searching for a job…It may have been a blessing in disguise though. I am feeling really burn out on school, and university politics right now. My boss was “warning” me that I probably would not talk for long stretches or possibly even my entire work day…right now that sounds heavenly!
I am sad I did not get in, but I cannot think of anything that would be gained by my dwelling on it.

Tacori Ering- Thanks!

Rhapsody- I started off with biology at Emory. Jumped to UA psychology and human development.
