I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

Thank you PintoBean, Matata, TooPatient, Distracts, Kaleigh, VRBeauty, Missy, Mayk, Dragonfly, Zoe, and Sharon for the extra support these past few days. My grandmother is in an acute care facility and I think it is a better place than the ICU. I also talked to her on the phone the other day and she sounded SO MUCH better. Not 100% her old self, but at least she was able to pick up the phone and have a conversation, which was not the case a week ago.

VR, LOL on the pox on my brother!

LLJsmom, thank you for the welcome to the CPA club!

Kellinas, I am so sorry about your flea bites and I really hope you are feeling better. Yikes.

Dee*Jay - I'm glad to hear your grandmother is doing better - and that you intervened to make sure she had the chance to get better!

Today is Veteran's Day.

We celebrated by watching a historical documentary on World War 1 detailing just a few of the veteran's who served our country. The 15th New York was news to me! The "Hello Girls" were an impressive bunch too -- it took 60 years after the war before they were granted honorable discharge.

95 years since the armistice.

BTW, this is an awesome documentary: [urlhttp://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/dvd-world-war-i-american-legacy-david-carradine/11544838?ean=646032041095]World War 1: American Legacy[/url]

DeeJay-how's your grandmother doing? Keeping her in my thoughts and prayers.

Kelinas-glad you are feeling better!

I am very excited! I just bought tickets for next Sunday for Book of Mormon...first row mezzanine on the aisle. My perfect seat location woohoo! Ofc it cost a fortune. Anyone else remember the days where Broadway tickets were under $100? Man the dollar is so devalued now. But in any case I am psyched to go and just hope nothing arises that prevents us from going. That's the main reason I hate buying tickets in advance but fingers crossed it all works out.

I've heard "Book of Mormon" is fantastic! We just bought tickets for "Motown the Musical" as part of my dad's 80th birthday celebration in December. Tickets on the front mezzanine and I can't wait!!

It's always nice to recognize those who serve (or have served) our country. Anytime I come across someone in uniform, I thank them for their service and if they're at a restaurant, etc I'll treat them to their meal. No matter how I might feel about what we're doing in another country, I don't take it out on our men and women who are making sacrifices on a regular basis.

Sincere thanks to any veterans (or families of veterans) who might read this forum!!

My younger brother has been in the hospital for over five weeks now - a simple visit to the ER for prolonged nausea cascading into one bleeding ulcer that coded him, three intubations, three weeks in the ICU, and a collapsed lung. Sunday was a particularly bad day when it appeared he'd had a significant setback after (finally) making some progress. Yesterday things were looking better - he was examined by ENT specialists who determined that damage to one of his vocal cords was behind his inability to cough and keep his lung clear - not to mention his inability to swallow correctly (the cause of the collapsed lung) or talk. So they now have a cause and they think they have a partial solution that they'll be trying later this week. Whether it works or not, he faces weeks if not months in a rehabilitation facility, and he's not being treated for the cancer that probably contributed to the nausea in the first place - or at least the first chemo treatment did. The cancer is supposed to be very curable - but surely it's loving his tired and compromised body?

I know my brother must be exhausted from all this, I know his wife is exhausted from being by his side most of this time. I'm concerned for them both.

Been sick and dropping weight for 2 months now. In my way to see my GI for biopsy results.

She said it looks like just an infection but still nervous!

VR -- Continuing dust and positive thoughts to your brother and your whole family. I hope they are able to make good progress with him and get back to treating his cancer. Hugs to you and his wife!

Chemgirl -- Sending lots of dust your direction too! I hope it is "just" an infection and your doctor will be able to get it cleared up quickly.

Oh no VR! I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. I'm sending ((((hugs)))) and positive thoughts for encouragement and strength to you, your brother and his wife.

He was sent back to ICU last night - apparently his lung was punctured during a procedure.

Oh my goodness!! I don't get it when something that's supposed to help you ends up doing more harm than good. Can they get to the puncture to "fix" it (I'm not even remotely familiar w/ how they address a puncture in someone's lung)?

If you can wak your dishes to the sink, WHY can't you put them in the dishwasher????????????????? :angryfire:

Amber -- It is the same disease that causes toilet paper to remain un-stocked or empty rolls to be tossed on the ground NEXT to the garbage.

VR -- How awful! I hope they are able to correct the damage and he is able to recover quickly from this latest problem.

I know how you feel and it's not a comfortable place to be! I'm sending you hugs of encouragement (((Chemgirl)))!! I'm thinking nothing but positive thoughts for you and hope it's nothing more than an infection.

I am unreasonably aggravated. 'Unreasonably' because I know it's stuff that really does NOT matter! And I have plenty of stuff that DOES matter to think about!

There are some pieces I want. They're... what's the PC term for "proving bloody difficult to get hold of even in the Age of the Internet"? Actually, I think the Age of the Internet is making it harder - it's turned online shopping into an all-roads-lead-to-eBay sort of thing, and unrealistic sellers on eBay breed other unrealistic sellers. At first I thought to myself "well, hey, at least they aren't super popular so I won't have to deal with all the knockoffs"... no, oh no, there are still fakes, just far fewer and they're far better. OMG... obviously there are *wayyy* too many people wandering around with moral compasses manufactured in Bermuda :nono:

So... I guess I just have to wait... I detest waiting.

Yssie - thanks so much for the hug on the other thread.

DUST to everyone here who's going through hard times.

I couldn't agree more about the dishwasher. Since we got ours I feel I should be charging an hourly rate to stand at the sink and transfer dishes. :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:

Dh and I are in Portland having a great time in the rain. Had a fabulous dinner at Little Bird tonight; looking forward to Andina tomorrow night after a day of power shopping.

I love the rain because it can be so romantic (as long as it isn't raining every day). Sounds like a lovely evening... Enjoy the rest of your trip and have fun shopping!

We saw Book of Mormon today and then had a lovely dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. I have to say while the show was good it wasn't IMO amazing and my dh agrees. We were expecting more given all the rave reviews. I much preferred Wicked,Jersey Boys, Pillowman and many other shows. It wasn't nearly as funny (to us) as people have said it was. I even wore waterproof mascara today because I thought I would be laughing so hard I would be crying. Nope, not a laugh tear was shed. It was enjoyable but I would not rave about it.

I fractured my shoulder and sprained my wrist and thumb. Stupid!!! I'm down for 6 weeks.
