I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

I visited this jeweler in the next town who has this small, dusty store, but it's full of treasures! I've been there before, but not for a while. Nice guy, from Saudi Arabia originally, but brought up his family here. I got a platinum and diamond delicate Peretti flower pendant for just $350, an 18k yellow gold 1837 circles pendant for $500 (that currently retails at $1,550) and a non-Tiffany 18k yellow gold dragonfly pendant with plique a jour for $200. I'm very familiar with these Tiffany pieces and they're definitely real. The pendant is 0.20 carats and is from the old Tiffany Garden line. I don't normally name prices but these were such steals!

This also reminds me of someone I knew "in real life". He had three brothers. His mother, for what purpose I know not, had named the three: Willie; Wilson; and Willard.

My mom would have loved this! She always had a problem coming up with the right kid's name (there were four of us) when she needed it, and would often cycle through the names until she came to the right one. Then fate played the cruelest trick on her, and gave her daughters-in-law who go by "Migi" and "Mimi." o_O She just couldn't catch a break, name-wise!

I saw this coin in an advertisement today, and couldn't help thinking that it makes it look as if President Regan is about to tell someone to... well... where to go!

All in all, a rather unfortunate rendering of (likely) this portrait, which is much nicer in its original form.

Just called the vet where one of the dogs in Louisiana (one I got out of a kill shelter) has been in boarding waiting for a rescue. I've been paying along the way but not quite the full amount as they didn't do a running tally for me.
Yeah...
Now a rescue is able to take him and will pick him up in a few weeks. They finally added up my bill...
YIPES!
$3300 even after the payments I already made...
Oh, well... at least he is safe and on his way to a great life!
He may be the most expensive rescue I have ever done! (thankfully!)

After a long day of festivities followed by wrangling an over-tired, sugar-hyped, meltdown-tantrum toddler, I am now the only one awake in the house, trying to unwind.

And the fireworks are starting. :wall:

I swear, as much as I personally love fireworks, this holiday brings out a misanthropy in me otherwise dormant the rest of the year. Lord help the neighbor who awakens my 6-week-old or toddler with their Piccolo Pete! :lol:/:angryfire:

Alas and woe, I have reached an age where everyone under 30 yrs of age looks like babies to me. Yesterday the plumber came to do repairs; today the repairman for the washer. Neither looked old enough to drive. Both looked as though they were mightily trying to sprout a few facial hairs. I would gladly donate mine. Liquid consolation is called for and I will be spending the evening with my triplets.

If they're cute reserve them for me! One day I'll be ready for pet boys! Especially ones that can work on my plumbing!

Just wave the vermouth over the martini shaker and I'll be by with the cocktail munchies :lol-2:

You better move fast, the last plane into this little burg is 9 p.m. unless, of course, you're coming in your private jet.

Ah, the truly dry martini! I'd always heard that in lieu of waving a bottle, you simply whisper "vermouthhhh....." very softly over the top.

Ahhh, extra dirty with extra extra olives.

Can I request garlic olives, or the ones with jalapeno? Don't need 'em in a drink, just want the olives!

And instead of a martini, I'd like an Indian Lime Soda, which is just a catchy magazine name for a gin rickey that's been tarted up with a rim of cumin and celery salt. Please make it with Magellan Iris Flavored Gin, OK?

Really really good martini :lol-2:

Proof that a well-made adult beverage can make a new woman out of you.

Literally, apparently.

I'd like an Indian Lime Soda,
I would happily tart up any drink you desire. Be forewarned that everything in this house comes with a twist of cat hair.

That's quite OK. Although I have a dog (big shedding black lab) and therefore usually get a slightly different flavor in everything, all the time, I have long preferred cat hair as my "add on" of choice.

Cat hair is just a condiment...

I am working hard (but apparently unsuccessfully... ) to suppress a comment about pvssy hair between one's teeth...

It looks like you are having a very fun night Matata. Now I want a spicy Bloody Mary with Jalapeño olives.

OMG, bwaaahaaahaaaaa. I nearly choked on a queen-sized vermouth marinated olive.

First genuine laff for me today, thank you ksinger and of course, Matata.:lol-2:

Frustrated beyond belief. My "reliable" transport fell through. This makes 3 friend/volunteer transport fails and 3 paid transport fails. The weather, dead van, hospitalized driver.... Just too much.

DH thinks this dog is in foster. Nope. I just haven't corrected him. He will NOT be happy if he finds out. I have already paid about $5,000 for his boarding and still owe another $2,300.

Messaging everyone I can think of. So frustrated. So ready to be done with this. Just want that dog in a home where he can run and not stuck in a kennel all day.

That's very frustrating, TP, and eek that's quite a boarding bill! I hope a successful ride comes along for this lucky doggy soon.

Ahhh, extra dirty with extra extra olives.

Mmmm, a woman after my own heart (although I tend to go for gin martinis)! Have you ever made blue cheese-stuffed olives? They sound a bit foul, but they're soooo good.

Small vent. Two people at my work announced their two-week notice and their last day is this Friday. Our office usually does a farewell or good luck thing with cookies or ice cream or something small. Just found out that they literally have " no plans to do anything at all for either of them …because their tenure here was so short. "

I'm fuming inside. Because they've been there four years and three years. How is that SHORT?!?! And they are human beings who have been at your service for half of their waking lives for this "short tenure". Everyone else who has left (unless escorted to the elevator) has gotten a "good luck with your future endeavors". With cookies or something.

These two get NOT EVEN AN EMAIL wishing them well.

Cheap, heartless, clued out. They wouldn't even have to say two goodbyes, they could do a two-fer.

I'm probably next to give notice. Though I just refinanced. So. Yah.

Vent over.

Organize a group lunch. That will be an upgrade!

I did a small search for the thread for parents with mentally ill children, but didn't find it instantly. Usually I would persevere in searching for the one I started out looking for, if only as a matter of principle, but today I just decided to use this thread to blow off steam. (This thread came up in my search for that one.)

My daughter just took an overdose of Lithium deliberately and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. I didn't even go to the ER with her. I am just so angry. She did it because she is angry with me. Of course she is crazy (by which I mean she has no impulse control), or she wouldn't have taken Lithium to get back at me. I suspect she also cut up a gift card worth $180.00 because it wasn't good at the store Bebe, although it could be used anywhere else and she knew I didn't want her to throw away good money I could use.

The story is too long and dreadful to get into and is just what my life is all about. All I do is spend my days trying to meet her endless needs. She is on the list for a halfway house, but I have no idea how long it will be before her name comes up-or if it ever will. She is long overdue for a hospitalization, but when she comes out she is often not much better. Last night she had a heroin addict male friend running around the house so high that the dog (my Newfie) took refuge with me in my office, lying near my feet. He just didn't like the agitation in the house. (I figured this out later. He was behaving the way he does when he feels a thunderstorm coming on.)

I was alone in the house with my daughter last night, but my father's former aid, Derrick, is back home here tonight. (He dares to go away for fun for a few days sometimes.) So he was able to help me when the police and EMTs came. Someone always has to help with "the bear" that sometimes scares the emergency workers.

I'm thinking I should at least call the ER....

Deb :wall:

hug.jpg Deb I'm so sorry you have to deal with this on top of everything else you've been through recently. I have no words, can I just offer some hugs. And yes please do call the ER I understand you are upset with her right now, but yeah she is your daughter. Hang in there xo

Hugs Deb!!! There is also a FB group that DS had set up if you need to vent there as well.

Thanks, ladies. I cannot join diamondseeker's group, because I do not have a Facebook account and we do not allow Facebook on any of our computers at our house. But thank you for making the information available to me. I would love to belong to her group if it were somewhere other than Facebook.

I did call the ER, but it led not to my getting a medical opinion, but to being put in touch with my daughter! Up until then she had not had a phone. In addition to being bi-polar, she has significant OCD, so she has, now, been phoning me obsessively! When I was in the bathroom she left messages asking "where the f*uck" I was and reiterating that she was going to get "a third card" (meaning a third Visa gift card with which to attempt to purchase Bebe items). Since she has no money, she meant that I was going to be forced to buy this card for for her. Oh, joy.

Thank you for that hug, Cluless. I needed it! Hugs to you and to you, PB.
