I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

Hahaha @canuk-gal! Can you imagine what it would look like if you cleaned them! They would be seen from Outer Space!

NASA my next stop. :bigsmile:Well, that after a quick scrub with some soap.

I used to like people...
Until people changed that :snooty:

Dear @Slick1 I feel you.

Take heart that there are *some* amazing people who we can call true friends and family.
I am always grateful when people show me who they are before I waste too much time and energy.
In a recent experience it is true, I wasted a few years on someone who was not worth it in the least but I learned a valuable lesson and come away from that experience stronger and wiser. In this case I may have been fooled more than once (my motto is fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me) because she acted so sincere and contrite when she pulled BS on me the last time but hey I finally got the message. And I say thank you for allowing me to realize that hey this person is not worth my time nor energy. Woohoo I am free.:appl:

Sending you big (((hugs))).

@Slick1 All kidding aside I know what you mean. I find I’m tired of all the fakeness and mean people. I always loved old people and thought they were so cute...Then I realized that mean people get old too.

OKOKOK. So I get my ultrasound out to clean my rings....and the lid breaks! I'm like what? Not from overuse to be sure...maybe a passive aggressive move on the part of my machine...from underuse? Whatevs

Aww, Thank you @missy and @Mamabean I completely agree that it is healthier to espunge toxic people from one’s life. Easier said than done, especially in the work place. Absolutely drained from the drama. ;(
@missy I hope things are looking more positive in RW gate. What an ordeal. I have no right to complain. I hope all is well with you @Mamabean ((hugs)) to you ladies❤ ❤

Could I request some dust for something very selfish? PS dust is magical.

A teammate and I submitted a proposal for a conference. It's incredibly competitive (I believe last year they had 1600 submissions and around 100 were accepted total - and the specific timeslot and style we're targetting is the most common request by far)... Getting to speak would be incredible. We've got some things going for us - our topic is exciting in our field, we're proposing a live demo which is always welcomed, my coworker is an acknowledged expert and his name is very "droppable", and they're looking for newer contributors (that'd be me). But no guarantees of anything, of course.

We won't find out for several weeks - I'll be biting my nails the whole wait!

Good luck @yssie! My gut says you are going to get it.:appl:

Oh the employee/co-worker/boss/manager who is a holy terror. My mom always said "Catherine, there are 3 sides to every story. His side, her side, and the right side".. getting sucked into drama at work is mind draining, so sorry @Slick1 - you have a beautiful life, you are a nice woman and unfortunately your kind of people are fodder for the trama-drama queens and kings, we are here for you. People like that didn't often bother me because I didn't mind saying eff off to anyone, but that didn't make me popular with the management team :) I lived.

You ever have the perfect storm of cringeworthy circumstances?

Today we are in the car and my son sees someone begging so he says "Mom you better lock the doors" (I am never comfortable having someone that close to my car with two kids in the back seat). So DH asks him why and I say there is a beggar but DH apparently heard "bedroom" so as we are driving down the street he asks what I said and I loudly said "BEGGAR".

Well his window was down and there happened to be another guy looking for money walking by and when I tell you he looked at me like I was the worst person in the world (because he thought I was yelling that at him) it is no lie.

Not my proudest moment!

Oy, sorry that happened Stephanie. Not pleasant but definitely innocent.

I had a few cringeworthy experiences but I can only remember one right now. Though I’m sure there are many more as I’m Lucy from I love Lucy. . The one I remember is at a girlfiend’s wedding back in the eighties. I was about 20 years old and she was older around 29. Anyway we were very close and she asked me to be a bridesmaid so I agreed. At that point I had never met her mom or sister as they lived out of state. Fast forward to the wedding day and a woman comes over to me who looked like my friend and I said oh you must be D’s mom. Well you could have heard a pin drop. It was her sister! Color me super embarrassed. D’s sister was not amused. She didn’t laugh it off and it was a very uncomfortable long moment.

I was young and truth be told her sister looked old to this at the time 20 yo. ::)

@missy, my goodness it was an honest mistake and would have been so much less awkward if she had just found the humor!

Yes, you and I would have laughed but she scowled. Turns out she wasn't such a nice person anyway. Oh well. I felt very bad about my mistake believe me. My girlfriend the bride laughed when I told her about it. But her sister was so pissed.

It wasn't the first time I put my foot in my mouth and it probably won't be the last time either.

Recently, I was having a lighthearted discussion about food with my boss (white guy) and his GF, who is Asian.
He was going on about how he would never eat sushi.
I said "But sushi is so great! Everyone loves sushi! What's your problem? Haha"
And then I quickly turned to his GF, and said, "Everybody likes sushi. You like sushi, right?"
She has a very dry sense of humor, and sometimes her remarks sound like insults, but she is joking.
She said, flatly, "That was not a very nice thing to say." I couldn't tell if she was joking with me, or not, but I was horrified, 'cause I did not mean it that way at all.
I said "Oh, c'mon, you know what I meant" and I quickly changed the subject.
Foot-in-mouth!

@stracci2000, I see this as so innocent but my goodness it is quite funny, people get so up in arms these days and just assume the worst.

I think she was messing with me, but I am not sure. Either way, it was uncomfortable!

@stracci2000 I am known for sticking my foot in my mouth. Luckily the people that know me know I mean nothing by it, but I can completely commiserate with feeling bad every time I do it.
