Mine was handed down from my sister, whom got the new car.... I believe it was an 89 or early 90's camaro, red with red/white interior. After I married I bought a Jeep grand cherokee which is my favorite, I believe everyone needs a 4 door car to lug everyone around!! (including pets!)

P.S. For the lucky Volvo kids, thats what I always wanted, the Volvo sedan! How Lucky!

Well, here it is. I was having trouble downloading the picture.

DH and my first car= 72 Dodge Dart Sport

My first car was a 1990 Buick Park Ave that i shared with my mom. But when i went off to college she totally gave it up and moved on to a Caddy STS which i tried to trade back for! For some reason me and a college roommate started calling the car "Stinky" (it had no smell, i think that was what was so funny about the name). In HS id pile 10 kids in that car and in college id drive around blowing the horn which sounded *exactly* like a train. So the name expanded to Stinky the Train. Now my older brother has it and my neice calls it the Stinky Mowdio-Mobile. I miss the good ol'' Stinky!

Now i have a 2001 Chrysler Concorde that i call the Granny Butt.

White ''71 toyota corolla. The year was 1990 and it wasn''t exactly the coolest ride around, but it only had 35k miles on it and still had the plastic on the floor mats. My dad bought it from a friend of his who''s father had bought it brand new and barely drove (obviously). This friend was so proud of the perfect condition car that his father (who had died a couple of years before I got it) had had for so long.........and that I managed to crash into a tree within a year. Nice job, huh?

My driving skills have since improved.

what wonderful memories! my first car, thanks to my parents wrecking their Geo Prism twice, was a 1984 red Nissan/Datson 300ZX which i got in 1993 at the age of 17. my father and i were on a mission to find a car with the check they received from the insurance company...$2200, which is an awesome amount of money for a first car. well, we found it at the Farm and Ranch Auto Sales in Raleigh..haha i love saying where it came from. there it was, amongst the horse and cow feed, a shiny red sports car with t-tops, a flat tire, no FM radio, and over 210,000 miles on it. i didn't care!!! needless to say, dad got WAY under the asking price which was a ridiculous $5000, shoot, it wasn't worth half that. but we both loved it! he wouldn't let me drive it home since it was a "5 speed" and i had to practice with him first. i ripped 2 gears out of it in the first month (wasn't my fault, i promise, it was time
1.gif
) so i drove with 1st, 3rd and 5th for awhile, still drove great! then the windshield wipers wouldn't work, thank goodness for Rain-X. i'd take the t-tops out, jam out to the radio we finally put in it, and burn my ass up on the ripped, leather seats, but it was sooooo cool
10.gif

we had that thing for another 8 years, and it finally left the house with over 350,000 miles on it (mileage stopped at 310,000 something since that broke too) in 2001, dad finally got himself a new sports car. but i miss the 300ZX a lot. since then i have loved the 300's, 280's, and WILL own the Nissan 350Z one day. probably just how i got the '84 300ZX in 1993, i will own the '04 350Z in 2013....

bump for new members

thanks for the bump... was fun to read.... and here is mine.

my first car was an 84' Chrysler new yorker (complete with the plastic leather seats and TURBO!!) it was purchased from my grandparents for i believe 1500. it was quite a death trap however and i WISH my parents had spoiled me with new wheels. the floor board was rusted thru to the point where hard acceleration would rip the seat mounts thru the floor...leaving the driver in the back seat!!! nothing like holding onto the wheel for dear life (and holding the door shut in the winter time because they liked to freeze in the open position!)

on the opposite perspective. the first new car i bought. 2000 civic SI ....was stolen and stripped

so for me it was.....rusted underbody and broken seats.. vs. empty parking spot.

p.s. i since moved to NYC and pay 76 a month to feel like a sardine in the subway system!

Right after we got married, my sister sold us this 1962 Chevy Impala. We bought the car in 1980 and installed one seatbelt for our daughter''s carseat. This baby was BIG and had no power steering or brakes. This is my MIL and daughter in front of it.

I loved the red interior. Here is my daughter on Easter sleeping in the car:

Yes, DF, here is a picture of the 3 lights on each side. We paid my sister $300 for the car in 1980. It had 40,000 miles on it.

DF you are correct on the tail lights......

Patty, that pic of your daughter in her Easter outfit is too precious--I love the little pocketbook with the bunny peaking out...

My mom always dressed us up for the holidays, too...one Easter, she had the seamstress make matching sailor-themed outfits--I had a dress and my brother had short pants!
1.gif

Thank you Jennifer! My mom made the little strawberry basket for my daughter.

My girls always had smocked dresses for the holidays. My sisters smocked so I got wonderful hand-me-downs! And we did the sailor outfits a lot too...I loved the sailor dresses for our girls.

Everyone is so lucky here. I did not get the use of a car until I was 28. Up until that point I had a series of trusty bikes that I loved dearly, until they were stolen one-by-one. Trust me, I used the best locks I could buy. I lived in Boston and Cambridge, Mass, so I didn''t need a car.

The first car I drove regularly was my fiance''s when he was clerking in California--it was a 1982 Nissan Sentra. The funny thing the car was really unreliable. My MIL bought the car for my hubby as a college present. It was a demo. Little did anyone know that the car was in a major accident. The dealer "forgot" to tell my MIL this detail.

The funniest time it died (the clutch) was in Pollack Pines, California. For those of unfamiliar with it, it is halfway up the mountains to Lake Tahoe. It was a one repair shop town. They replaced our clutch with a used one for $400. In the meanwhile we had to take the bus home to Sacramento....

Right now I drive an 2001 Acura MDX (with 90,000+ miles). I love it; it works like a top.

aaahhhh broken clucth in CA that brings back memories. i used to live on top of russian hill and have seen many tourists facing similar problems. it was a daily event to hear someone burning tires or clutch while climbing the back side of lombard street....waiting in line to drive down the famed twisty road at the front.

S.F.,Ca. one of the most beautiful city in the world and some would say the most romanic city in the world.

My first car was a motorcycle. Kawasaki 90cc that I threw papers off of at the age of 15 (I threw the largest paper route in El Paso, Texas). After throwing papers for a year, I graduated up to a 3 cylinder Kawasaki 500cc, which at the time was the fastest production motorcycle made in the world. 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds, it was a screaming machine.

For the cold days, I bought a 66 Dodge Charger with a supercharged 383 (by that time, I was hooked on speed). It was faaassssttttt, and street racing was "the thing" in El Paso at that time.

In addition, the Charger had a neat feature. The back "wall" of the car would fold down into the trunk, while the two back seats would fold down as well, allowing room to sleep in. This I did for months after leaving home at the tender age of 16.

My older brother located me after a couple months, sleeping in the Charger. He knocked on the window at 4 in the morning, handed me a key with an addressed paper tag and said "Here's an apartment for you. Just keep it clean, as I might crash in it once-in-a-while".

Alas, I digress. The topic just brought back memories...

500cc Kawasaki and 383 Dodge Charger. I still remember them fondly.

did they make a 426 cid HEMI charger that yr? that sure would of kick some A**.

Wow this is a fun thread! I was fortunate that my Da fronted some $$ for my first car, actually I bought a car when I was 14 for $50, ofcourse I couldn''t drive it on the road, it was a Honda accord hatchback, we would sit in it and listen to the radio and drive it around and around the house! We painted it with spray paint and I ended up selling it for $100, back to the guy who sold it to me! Then for Graduation I got my dream car which was a 1985 VW jetta, it was a 5 speed and I had no idea how to drive it! I would take it on the back roads praying no one would get behind me on the hills! I took it in for repair one day and was told that it was actually 2 cars welded together!! So I traded it in for a 1987 VW Wolfsburg, which was awesome. I loved that car! I had it when I met my DH, he drove a 1968 Pontiac bonneville!! Talk about a fast car! Once he got ahold of my VW that was the end of it! He was such a lazy shifter, and he eventually totalled it on a deer, we got it fixed but it was never the same. We donated it to purple heart! I think of it here and there wondering who got it. After that we got a bronce II that was a total beater! We ended up taking his Bonneville on 2 cross country trips, I would find myself driving 110 mph, he would pop his head up from the back seat and say "HOW FAST ARE YOU GOING??" I wouldn''t even realize how fast I was going, it felt like we were floating! After going cross country I decided when we got back I wanted a jeep wrangler or a BMW, well I got the Jeep and absolutely loved it! It was big and fun, oversized tires and a lift kit!! So much fun to drive it the summer w/ the top off and 4 wheeling on the power lines!!! I''m such a girl!!! Well the Bonneville finally met her end and we gave it to a local garage, DH got ANOTHER old car, a 1971 Buick Rivera, which it too fast for his own good, we gave the Bronco to a friend who flipped it, we had a baby and got the ultimate family vehicle an Toyota Landcruiser!! Dh drives the Jeep daily the Buick is sitting in the driveway , depreciating in value , and I drive the big gas sucking SUV!!!

Hah Patty! My father had a green chevy impala convertible. We all loved it - until a tree jumped out in front of my sister & nearly totaled it.

Richard Sherwood

Have you got to see the new "Charger" that''s being reintroduced...racerback & has a Hemi!! Ya gotta check it out! If I can rip it out of my husbands grip, I''ll try to scan the picture in the next day or two...

(We just got a Ram with a Hemi...and love it, except at the gaspump!)

my first car was my mom and dad''s 1982 Oldsmobile Delta 88. In 1982 that thing rocked! In 1992 different story. Had to put the car in park at a stop light and constantly rev the engine or it would die. Also of course no power windows, it had the handles to roll the windows up and down. Well one HOT summer day we were going to the beach and (no working A/C) I began to roll my window down...and the handle broke off! We all started laughing and then my sister started to roll down the other window...and THAT handle broke off too! How would we roll them up and down now??? We had to stick a butter knife in the hole that was left where the handle used to be and jack the knife forward to roll it up, backward to roll it down! ugh

This is too funny. What memories! I had a 1973 Delta 88 with a 454 under the hood. That baby never passed a gas station and I ran out of gas so frequently that the local attendants would see me coming (coasting) trying to make it too the pump and would run out and help me push. It got like 10 mpg and that was on a good day. (highway driving) I could only put $3.00 of gas in at a time......
20.gif

My Dad bought it for $1,500.00 from a customer (he was a mechanic) because he had worked on the car and he knew it was in good shape. Until I got a hold of it, that is...He believed that a person should start out with a BIG car for protection and if you drive a big one, you could drive anything....

I backed into everything there was to back into..... There wasn''t a square inch of that car that was dent free. Good thing he got me a big one. She was tough, though.

I guess it worked out, though because I love a big ride now. My "car" now, 25 years later, is a full size Z71 extended cab p/u truck. Dent free, btw..........

hee hee. I had a 72 gold Ford Tourino! V8, 454 (I think) LOTS of power and appetite for gas, handed down from Mom. It too had every corner bashed in. Parking by braile with a car that big was a way of life without even trying! I've never had a big car again. I've continually gotten smaller and now have a tiny BMW Roadster. I can park it anywhere, and it is dent-free!
