I loved the red interior. Here is my daughter on Easter sleeping in the car:
Patty
your daughter is so cute,is that teh younger or older one? those looks like 80''s style car seat.
Thanks DF. You are right on the car seat style. This is the older daughter and the picture was taken in 1981. (Back in the days when carseats did not have covers or juicebox holders...

Hah Patty! My father had a green chevy impala convertible. We all loved it - until a tree jumped out in front of my sister & nearly totaled it.
LOL, fire&ice. I hate when trees jump out in front of cars, but if they do, it''s nice to be in an Impala!

Patty those pictures are awesome. I love the one with the baby in the seat. So precious.

I haven''t thought about my first car in what seems like forever!

I refused to get my driver''s license until I had a car (I just figured...what''s the point?! I didn''t think I could drive my mom''s extra long Cadillac!!) so my dad got me a 1973 Mazda RX3 with a rotary engine. It was orange (yes, Halloween orange....it was eventually named the "Ween machine") with black interior and NO AIR! Aaah! We got it from a little lady that only drove it to Pennsylvania during the summers so it basically stayed garage kept the rest of year. It was a great car and pretty spunky! It allowed me to haul a$$ home to meet curfew (dad being a cop and all, I didn''t want to miss that time!). My mom used to think that I waited at the end of the street until seconds before midnight. She had no idea that I was pushing my "ween machine" to the max to get home so that my curfew didn''t turn into grounding!

This was fun reminiscing!

My very first car was a red Fiat spider convertible w/standard trans. I tried and tried to get the hang of it but it was too frustrating(I still can't drive standards). My dad sold it to one of his employees and bought me '68 mustang conv instead w/automatic. It came green with this horrible gold interior. It was changed to red with black interior. I loved that car!

My first car was a 1999 SLK230. I thought I was the most spiffy kid ever! It was white and had red and black leather on the inside. My father gave it to me as a surprise and I damn near died. We hadnt been living there that long and I didnt realize at the time that my care was not going to be the Kool car I just new it would be. Most everyone else in my HS had a porsche or hummer, most had a winter and summer car. Though the winter cars were almost all Ford and then some sort of sports car for summer. I was thrilled when I went off to college and my new friends wanted to ride in my car. I loved that car until some not so smart rude man decided stop signs were not for him

. I smile everytime I pass one on the road though, they are just soo pretty.

Well, my first car was sort of junk: 1990 Mercury Sable that my parents bought me because....really, my driving skills did not warrant a new car. That was like in 1999. I got my license a year late, so I had it for a year and then went to college. The Christmas during my freshman year my dad got me a fully loaded Ford Explorer ''01 that he thought was awesome and he was so proud of himself....but I thought was horrible! I mean, come on, really cool that you open up all your presents and then go toss the paper in the garage garbage and see a new car waiting for you....but that thing was huge, just not me! That lasted all of 5 months until I convinced him to sell it and buy me my cute little Jetta ''01. Still have my jetta and still love it.

For my sweet 16, Dad decided we should have a "father-daughter bonding project" and gave in to my wishes and got me a ''68 Mustang Coupe (this was in 1984,) which was significant for us both- he loves Fords, I was born in ''68.

We bought it from the original owner(she didn''t think anyone had ever rode in the back-seat- she used it for groceries,) did a little interior restoration ourselves & had it repainted.

God, I still dream about that car! My ex & I towed it to AZ when we moved in 88 and I drove it right up until I left AZ 10 years ago (so I had it from 16 to 27.) My ex-husband bought it from me when we divorced- he was a mechanic but during the separation/divorce I was on my own and ran it into the ground
7.gif
. My Dad saw it when he flew to AZ to drive the u-haul back to NY with me and it made him cry- not just it''s poor condition (over 300,000 miles on two engines, hot AZ sun for 7 years and a blow-out that caused the quarter panel to curl like the top of a sardine can) but all the lost dreams & memories- my ex & I drove it to the prom, my high school grad, my college grad......I still dream of getting a 68 fastback,Daddy calls me when he sees them in the classifieds and say "rememember when....."

My first car? At the ripe age of Thirty (something) I am getting my first car - a new Holden Astra. I signed the contract two weeks ago and am waiting on delivery. I can''t wait.

My first car was a brand new 1987 Suzuki Forsa - my three cylinder engine took me everywhere!! I could drive through snow others wouldn''t think about attempting!

We hit over 300,000 km together and I was so proud to have paid for that baby all on my own (at a 14.5% interest rate
6.gif
) She cost me $14,000 CDN but I probably would have got it cheaper if my Dad hadn''t helped me negotiate....

There was no way my parents could afford to buy me a car when I got my license, so I saved and bought my own. A 1985 Pontiac Sunbird that I paid $1800 for (this was in 1997). I had that car for maybe 6 months until the head gasket blew and had to get it fixed. Well, one night while it was at the garage, already fixed, waiting for me to pick it up the next day, it was stolen! My mom called me at work the next day to tell me and I went in the bathroom and cried. Hey, I was 18 and I had worked my butt off to buy it.

Once I got the insurance money, I bought a 1988 Chevy Celebrity which lasted all through college. When I got my first "real" job, I bought a brand new 2002 Honda Civic, which I sold to my mom when I moved across the pond. Now my BF and I occasionally use his dad''s car (when we''re not taking the public transportation) which is a Toyota Yaris... it''s like a toy! It''s the equivalent of an Echo, and I don''t like it. It''s too light and too easy to stall (for me anyway. Not used to driving a standard). Unfortunately, we''ll probably be buying this car because his dad is going to get a company car soon. Guess I''ll have to get used to it!

My first car was a Ford Escort Mk1 (1972)

It was 12-years old when i bought it in 1984 and cost (£500) approx $870

It was bright canary yellow, with black ''go-faster-stripes'' and rust trim around the doors, bumper, sills, windows etc.

It also had a small hole in the floor on the drives side...and it rained soap suds through the windows if you took it through the car wash!

Ahhh...happy days

I had a Baby Blue metallic 1964 Chevy II Nova with a 327 in it. Man that thing would fly. I used to drag at the stop lights in town. It was 4000$ No air, no power steering or power brakes but it was a hell of a ride. Great man magnet too lol.

My first car was a 1992 Chevy Surburban that was the family car when my brother was a baby- it smelled faintly of chocolate milk and stale cherrios (in fact, I was still finding cherrios in the car when I got it- he was 5 by then!). It was such a great car- this was back when ''Burbs were still all metal and it had an 8 cylinder. Man, that thing could move! Of course, it was kind of strange to have such a large car because for the first six months I had it, I wasn''t allowed to drive with anyone else in the car with me or with the radio on- and I still managed to hit a parked car! Good times...

Then, my dad bought me a 2001 PT Cruiser...it''s true, I was spoiled. I loved that car in all its gray leather interior wonderment! It even had a sunroof- it was my baby. Then I came to Boston for school and they used my beautiful car as a trade-in for my stepmother''s tahoe! Oh the horror! I still miss the few summers I had that car, driving around in the hot Texas sun.

Now my fiance and I have a 2003 VW Passat. Love this car- it will last us through at least 2 children!

As I wrote all this down, I realize how lucky I have been with transportation in my short life- let''s hope it continues!

Too funny. A 1982 Chevy Celebrity that was 10 years old at the time. The muffler fell off WHILE I was driving down the highway (thankfully nobody was anywhere close behind me). A very odd experience to see your bumper have hang time looking through your rear view mirror. The worst was the sound...you could hear me coming from miles away till I got a new one. This car also was so bad you had to turn the engine idle down to pass emission inspections, but if you left it that low it would stall out every time I stopped at a freaking traffic light. Ah, the good old days.

Not mine, mine was grey, but you get the picture.

love to own that car especialy if it had the 327/350 hp engine. i don''t think a Chevy II would cost $4000 back in 1964

maybe for a Corvette?. $4000 was a lot of money for a car in 1964.

My first car was a Plymouth Volare with wooden sides. It was fugly and kep choking once it was turned off. I hated that car. My parents thought otherwise.

My first car was the coveted maroon both inside and out 1993 Buick Century. It was made very apparent that it was "on loan" to me until I graduated from high school, so I only had it for about a year. It would tick when you would stop at lights ... fantastic. We called her the "ticker" ... but you could fit a good number of people in it so everyone always wanted me to drive.
11.gif
That was a lot of gas for a 17 year old.

My real first car, the one I actually paid for, I still drive today. Its my beautiful 2004 Yellow VW New Beetle. Haha, can''t fit a lot of people in there!!

OMG...I'm having a nostalgia attack!!!

I got my dream car on my 16th birthday....1961: Blue and white 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible. (It now occurs to me I should have contributed to the "Are you a Princess" thread...)

Here's a picture I found on Ebay: Except for the color, this pic could have been me! (I was a blonde So Cal Beach bunny....

Ah....to be young again....

It was 1984 and I received my slightly used 1978 Limited Edition baby blue Fire Bird Esprit. I failed my drivers test 4 times so it sat in the driveway until I could sign up for drivers ed and try and pass that way. Only took 2 tries and 2 semesters after that and I got to drive. Then I had to have some guy at the gas station show me where to put gas in. It was behind the fold down license plate on the back of the car.

My first car was a 1979 white Cadillac. My dad bought it for me when I was 17 in 1995, my senior year of high school. He got it from his banker, whose wife had kept it in their garage and there were only 75,000 miles on it. My dad thought the car would be indestructible in case a tree decided to jump out in front of me (oh, that happens to other people too?!
emwink.gif
) I wanted to wreck it on purpose, I was so embarrassed by it. All my friends were getting brand new little Chevy Cavaliers and Sunfires and here I was with this big ole grandma car. It was a pimp ride, though, I have to say...it had a cassette player, leather interior, power everything...and the ride was like sailing a boat, so smooth! I was a little sad a couple years later when I turned 21 and Dad bought me a new Toyota Corolla. The jump down in size made me feel like I was driving a go-cart! But it was the best for all those college road trips--everybody''d throw in $5 for gas and we''d be set for like 600 miles!

DF: I don''t remember what it cost. I neglected to mention that the car was a ''57, so in ''61 we bought it used...

My folks soooo spoiled me.

On my last day of school as a high school junior when I was 16, I got off the bus and walked up my driveway to find my Mom and Dad polishing up my dream car: a 1974 silver Ford Mustang. It was used (very) but it was still a silver Mustang. Needless to say, I was over the moon and it was a wonderful summer. And I drove that puppy into the ground in the ensuing years of high school and college.

I''ll never forget their look of anticipation when they saw me coming up the driveway. They were the best!

My first car was this really amazing and smooth 1981 Mercedes 450 slc that belonged to my mom. I really didn''t like it at the time because it was older and was what I called a banana yellow and what my parents called "vanilla" A year later I got a Land Rover which was ok. Boy do I wish I still had that Mercedes though...
