I might have broken m ankle

I am so glad it's not broken. Don't know how I missed that. We must have posted simultaneously! :o Take care. Sometimes the
smaller injuries take longer to heal. Don't push yourself. I know. I am a total klutz. I have been down for the past week with a
back thing and just tonight cut my finger with a knife as I was trimming a tri tip! Not to worry, crazy glue saved me from a
trip to the ER. I'm just saying..total klutz. Take it easy and heal...

Danny, get well soon dude.

Just be careful. I had a fall and badly bruised my ribs. It took a long time to heal. Don't rush things and take your meds. You need to make sure any swelling goes down. Let us know how you are doing.

Thanks, everyone.

A suggestion? First, ask the doc what exactly he thinks is damaged - WHICH tendons, not just "oh, it's not broken...SEE YA!! And THEN...ask him for a script for some visits to a PT. I had a truly HORRIBLE sprain back in 99 - when I sprain an ankle I can do it like no one else, because my ankles are already able to bend inward at a 90 degree angle - and it NEVER healed properly, a state of affairs made worse no doubt by my failure to have it looked at. In the years following, subsequent injuries have led me to understand that seeing a PT back then, likely would have made a huge difference in my ankle function today. As it is, that ankle is now permanently damaged and weakened and has been reinjured almost more times than I can count. So I'm a big fan of a good physical therapist. And they are often much better at true diagnosis than the rock-star orthopedic guys, at least in my experience. But take my word for it, toughin' it out is NOT the way to go. You likely need some professional rehab.

ksinger, thank you for your concern. I appreciate it and I'm sorry that your injury has never healed properly. Just to be clear, my doctor didn't say that I have a damaged tendon. I don't really know what the small lump on my ankle is (it's going down and the pain is getting less). He and I were going under the assumption that it might be a bone fragment, but then it turned out not to be. He said that he agreed with me about wanting to know if it was broken (in other words, that it should be x rayed) even if there's nothing they could do about it (apparently, with the type of fracture where a tendon pulls off part of the bone sometimes they do surgery and sometimes they don't I guess depending on the size of the piece of bone in question although I'm not sure). My doctor is a GP. He has to approve any x rays or recommendations to specialists. So to make a long story short, he didn't say what he thought it was, only what he thought it might be (a bone fragment pulled off by a tendon, and this is something that I suggested to him I think mainly because a friend of mine had this happen to her a couple weeks ago so this was fresh in my mind at the time). So I don't think he knows or can tell what actually happened and after the x ray report (please see my earlier post) he must not have thought that there was anything that could be done. I appreciate your comments about physical therapists (and I agree with you) but I'm not sure that the function of my ankle is going to be impaired. I'll have to wait and see about that. If the problem persists, I'll definitely follow up with him. One more thing that I'd like to say is that I'm not really being that tough. I'm actually being a complete coward by not staying on schedule with my pain medication. Thank you again for your advice. I will keep it in mind.

I'm glad to hear the ankle's not broken! I have heard that there's plenty of soft-tissue injuries that hurt more than a broken bone, so don't feel bad that you are in a lot of pain from it. My sister had her foot hurt in soccer- someone kicked her instep incredibly hard, and though it was incredibly painful and she couldn't walk well for weeks, it wasn't broken. The doctor actually thought she was in at least as much pain from the deep bone bruise than a break.

I'm glad the doctor refilled your pain meds. Anything that impairs your mobility is not just painful but utterly frustrating- I've dislocated my knee three times, and each time I always curse the fact that I can't get around easily. It just sucks! Get well soon. :))

LGK, thanks. :))
