I need dress help

As for earrings. I spent a LOT of money of some earrings for the wedding that were NOT made by Nadri. Looks super cheap when I got them and I paid SO MUCH more than I would have if I'd bought Nadri.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/nadri LOVE their stuff. Some of the highest quality I've ever seen. And it lasts.

This stuff is well priced (and is the SAME quality the other "Bridal" jewelry places charge 5 times more for!) http://www.whiteaisle.com/bridal_jewelry.html and http://www.whiteaisle.com/earrings.html and http://www.whiteaisle.com/hair_accessories.htm

Thanks for the jewelry and hair advice. If you look at the first picture of the dress I posted, I am wearing a thin belt (sash?) under the bust. I think that makes the dress look even nicer. So I thought I'd get something like that. What do you gals think? Yay or nay? And where might I get something like that for not too much.

Thanks.

Gypsy, I just looked through your shoe and jewelry suggestions. Those are awesome. I think I might go on a shopping spree today, 7 months before the wedding. You have awesome taste, and killer search skills.

Welcome honey! Let me know if you need anything else. The biggest thing that sets high end costume apart from lower end stuff is the quality of the stones and how they are set. A lot of lower quality stuff is set with glue rather than metal and prongs and some of their larger stones aren't high quality crystal or whatever. The White Aisle stuff is largely set with glue-- but it is priced right for the quality. I bought Regina B (supposedly high end bridal) earrings for 212 bucks and they were the same quality as 30 dollar ones from White Aisle. The Nadri stuff (also carried by Lord and Taylor) is very high quality stuff from their stones to the way they are set. Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and JCrew all have some surprisingly lovely costume jewelry pieces around the holidays. So look there too!

I prefer it without the belt, personally, and that's actually the first I noticed when I saw you in it in the second pic, how nicely the dress flowed without that interruption... but how formal is your wedding? If you do opt for something how about clustering three nice broaches under your bust?

Hi KA,

The dress you bought fits you perfectly and I don't think you really need a belt. It's a personal preference though. Do you have a picture of a belt you like? As for the length of the dress I think you will be fine with a shorter heels. I wish I'm as tall as you so that I could wear flats on my wedding day. I ended up going as barefeet at the end of the night as I couldn't take heels anymore. Please do post more pictures once you find your shoes.

Thanks for the tips Gypsy. I have never really bought costume jewelry, so I know nothing about it, and this should tell me what to look for. I am also concerned about costume jewelry in my ears, since my ears are sensitive, and get infected easily if the metal is not high quality. Sterling silver works for a few hours, but generally I try to wear gold.

I actually have a diamond necklace that I really like, but now I'm not sure that it goes with this dress. Here's the picture of it, what do you ladies think? I have no eye for this stuff, so I am mostly depending on you ladies to get me through this wedding :)

100_1330-necklace.jpg

I also have matching earrings, but don't have pictures of them, since the posts are too thick and they don't fit in my ears. I am not sure I like them so much anyway. If I decide to wear this necklace, then I might have matching earrings made when i go to India in december. Then the jewelry problem will be pretty much solved.

Gypsy and bibloves, as for the belt, I really liked the delineation that it gave me under the bust, somehow. The wedding isn't very formal at all. The only picture I have is the belt in the picture when I trying on the dress (second picture in the first post). It is a very thin light champagne belt with some crystals in the middle. The brooch idea is interesting too. Gypsy, do you have ideas for small brooches?

As for hair, I was thinking of putting the hair up, and some flowery hairpiece. However, most floral hair pieces are white or Ivory, and my dress is light gold. Do you have ideas for that? Another option is to do dark red hair piece, since red is my favourite color. But my hair is very black, so there may not be enough contrast with the hair.

Oh, and what do you gals think of red shoes with that dress? I want there to be something red :)

Thanks to all of you for your help. You may all get sick of me. I have no eye for design, so you are going to hear a lot from me to help me choose colors, flowers, everything, really.

Oh, those shoes are awesome. I am stopping myself from buying them right now, but I might not succeed. As for brooches, where are you envisioning them? Just under the bust in the middle side by side or both off to one side for an asymmetric effect?

In the middle under the bust... but I still prefer the dress as it is without further embellishment.

For some reason, I prefer the picture where I am wearing the belt, but that might be because the cups in the dress I have are too big, and so it doesn't quite fit me right. I might remove the cups and try it again, and see what I think about it without the belt. Thanks for the advice about that.

I really don't know what kind of necklace goes with this dress. Maybe I should skip it altogether and just go with large dangly earrings. Otherwise, do you think a tennis necklace type of thing?

I also don't think the dress needs a belt, it looks fabulous on you! And I think no necklace but great earrings.
For inexpensive costume jewelry, another good line to look at is Mariell.. Some stuff is considerably better than others, but overall it is good quality for the price. Most things are under $75.

You are going to be a beautiful bride!

I don't think the dress needs a belt, it's absolutely gorgeous on its own. My dress was fairly plain so I got one to make it a little more unique and to bring a splash of color to it. Yours is far from plain and just downright gorgeous! :)

I'm glad you were able to get a size that works for you. I'd stick with flats or a low heel with the dress. I think it's ok if the toe peeps out a bit but you don't want to see the whole shoe, it'll be like highwaters, but a dress.

The dress looks great and the length is fine! I think with flats or small heels you'll be fine. Tall heels might look a little weird... I hope that you can sell the first dress too:-)

Gypsy, I love those shoes. Now I am torn between those and the red ones you posted. hmm.

As for the belt, I am very confused. I found some pictures from when I tried on the dress, and here are close to equivalent pictures with and without the belt.

You all still think no belt, right? I have stared at them so long that I don't know what I like any more :) I like simple, and the belt seems to be cluttering things up. But I feel like my waist is more defined with the belt. But I don't know if that is true or is just my impression.

I am going off to look at Gypsy's Jewelry suggestions now. They look awesome.

KA, I've been following this thread but I wanted to chime in. Your sexy gorgeous waist is more accentuated without the belt, but you pull off the belt nicely too. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I second Gypsy on no necklace with the belt!

I prefer the fist set of shoes, only because I personally don't like peeptoe.

now that I see these pictures...no belt. it looks great either way but I think it looks better without.

I really like the antiquey floral earrings (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/nadri-v.../3191597?origin=keywordsearch&resultback=6106).

I am usually not a big fan of pearls, but I also like the florette collar thing. However, I have tiny earlobes, so chunky stuff near the ears make them look strange. I usually wear small studs or dangly things. What do you think of something simple like this?

or

I am kind of leaning towards no necklace and fabulous dangly earrings.

Thanks chrono and slg. It seems to be unanimous, no belt :)

All of you ladies are awesome to help me so much. My mom and future mother in law are no help at all, since they just gush at everything. The fiance is a guy, need I say more? And I don't want to show all this stuff to my friends, since I want to make an impression at the wedding. So your help is really invaluable.

oh this is fun :) plus you look SO amazing in that dress!!!!! it really looks like it was made for you :)

I think I would go with no necklace, or a very simple necklace, and bigger earrings. how do you plan to wear your hair?

Yes, I agree, no necklace and nice dangly earrings. I plan on putting my hair up and no veil. Should I do a flower or a sparkly thing? With an outdoor wedding, a flower might be more appropriate. But I do love sparkles :)

As to the specifics of hairstyle, I don't really know. I am looking for some sort of informal updo, nothing too shiny and flat (if you know what I mean). I was thinking something not too high and not too low. Something like this, but I am not finding anything I really like:

I think a flower in your hair and those Nadri earrings you liked would be perfect.

Here are some pretty hair flowers (some of them are expensive, I was just picking by what looked prettiest to me).

There are hundreds more...

Oh wow, I had looked on etsy before, but hadn't seen all those. Those are really great. I might wait on getting them until I pick colors and flowers for the wedding, since I am having great difficulty with that. I'm starting another post for that, hope you all will help.

I vote no belt...

HI:

Gorgeous dress! When I look at accessorizing I ask myself, does this "item" add value; and while the belt doesn't detract from the beauty of the dress, neither does it "improve" the look. In short, the dress appears more "fluid" without the belt.

cheers--Sharon

KA I love your dress! I'm so glad you were able to find the original.

I prefer your dress without the belt. What you could do is find a veil with sparkely edging that falls to the same location level as the belt to draw the eye to that level.

Have you tried the dress with various veil lengths ?
