I need moonstone help, I am in moonstone HELL!

I feel your pain! I am looking pretty much for the exact same thing (on a lower budget) & have spent weeks seaching online. This guy on Etsy seems to specialise in higher quality stuff - https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/gemsnj...desc&view_type=gallery&ref=shop_search&page=1 so I'm eyeing of some of his stones.

I get so nervous when sellers are photographing moonstone on a black background. Anything is going to look vivid and bright against black! How do I know for sure if it is real, top grade stuff or just camera tricks! I have him bookmarked in my Etsy favorites, his feedback is at least encouraging.

Elliot,
Sorry I thought you were a man. LOL!

Good luck with your moonstone search. I love them as well, and I would one day love to get a nice one. Keep us posted on your progress.

I make jewellery and can find Moonstone very cheaply with schiller. Don't pay thousands - look for somebody that sells cabs for jewellery making. Ultimate Gems on Ebay is a good place to start. He's super helpful. Drop him a note via Ebay and ask if he has anything in stock.

Just one thing I would add ............ apologies if this is stating the obvious ............. Moonstone rarely hold the "blue" colour if moved. It'll rotate around the gemstone and sometimes will be more blue than not depending on the viewing angle. If you're looking for one that holds the blue all the time, then I haven't seen one of those.

Those are the ones that cost thousands of dollars. Ok, all schiller is somewhat directional but a fantastic stone holds a lot more than the cheaper cabs you usually find.

You can see really good moonstone in some top of the line Art Nouveau pieces.

LadyD,
I know which ones you are talking about; the blue sheen almost covers the entire cab so that no matter which way you tilt the moonstone, it still looks very strongly blue. This type of moonstone is difficult to source and are very expensive. I used to see many of these on GemWow, but haven't seen anything remotely decent the last 5 years or more. I wish I knew any place at all to recommend.

I remember one that Richard Wise used to have up on his site. It was just gorgeous: strong blue, clear like water.

Being rare, it is not easy to come by, but very possible to get your hands on. I only wish I had registered on this site a few months ago since I had a few I sold for a very very nominal price. I may be able to get my hands on a couple of those rocks. I would be glad to help you with your quest.

Fly Girl's moonstones, which she turned in to earrings, are among some of the nicest I've seen. Strong blue shimmer, and you can see the variance in tone in different angles and with different backgrounds.

Her thread on them is here (hope she doesn't mind me linking it): https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/new-blue-moonstone-earrings.174465/

She said she got hers from Barry Bridgestock.

Gorgeous, perfect, exactly what I want! Oh how I wish I could find it!

It is that rare blue moonstone that I am after. People rarely see the ones with incredible all blue color, and I'm starting to think I may never find one online!

Thanks! If you are in the gem and jewelry trade, Pricescope requires you to identify as "trade" in your profile, and you can't sell or advertise product on the forums. However if you put some listings on LoupeTroop it will allow PSers like me to check them out! :wavey:

I can't help but wonder if JuliaB saw your thread and posted this moonstone! https://www.etsy.com/listing/189262718/11-carat-collector-quality-blue-sheen?ref=listing-shop-header-1

Woah, that's quite a stone! Very pretty. Just a *smidge* too big for an engagement ring

Well, maybe if it was a diamond... :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

I hope more jewelers follow suit and start stocking more of them. We want moonstones!

Perhaps its worth contacting her?

Already composing an email
Thank you! I know she has gem sources in Sri Lanka, moonstone capital. Fingers crossed!
