Ok I'm taking everyone's advice and looking into a cheap stuller setting for my "temp" setting. If you don't already know my stone is a 3.19 M AVC. What are your thoughts about this setting?

I like it too!

Edit - since you mentioned Stuller...someone on PS used this setting and it turned out really pretty.
I think they might have used rose gold if I'm not mistaken.

Edit again...found a picture of it in a white metal...down towards the bottom

I love it !

So I found out the price for this setting is $500 for 14k gold, $600 18k gold and $1,100 in platinum. I think I'm leaning towards the 14k white gold since its really just going to be a throw away setting. Im a little nervous about this whole process since my insurance company won't let me insure it s a loose stone :errrr:

You can get it insured. You just get an appraisal that lists the ordered setting. So you order the setting. They do a quick and dirty appraisal document for the insurance. You send to them. They update your file. Then it is insured while setting. And then you tell them to go ahead and set.

Otherwise send the diamond back to GOG they will insure it and will order the setting for you. No worries and it's all taken care of. And they can provide you with a insurance appraisal afterwards.

Where did you find this setting? Who is the designer?

I love the setting, but... if I were wearing a 3+ carat diamond, I'd want more than four prongs keeping it safe.

I completely agree, I wonder if they make a 6 prong version of it.

Me three :)), I like the idea of 6 prongs if avail (I actually like some of the 8 prong settings I've seen pics of here on PS). I think the previous advice of having GOG set it for you is a good idea.

Although this is a "temp" setting, if you're going to wear it for over a year or so, try to make sure it really shows off your stone and you really enjoy looking at it. I know you don't want to spend too much money (& I agree), but it's still worth getting something you'll love if you'll be wearing it for a couple of years.
