these are earrings for my 50th birthday in june - which means that my birthstone is pearl. i''ve always wanted a pair of big pearl drops and last year, when tim and i took a trip to las vegas, i saw a pair i LOVED in the mikimoto store in the venetian. they were 15mm with a triangle of 3 x .2 diamonds above each one. so 1.2ctw. i absolutely fell in love with them. given that they were $48,000 slowed me down a trifle tho...

so i decided to have them copied for my 50th. i''m toning down the size a trifle - going with 14mm pearls and 3 x .17 diamonds above each one, meaning i''ll have 1ctw - and they''ll be attached to a shepherd''s hook in white gold.

and that''s it!

i''m very excited and really looking forward to receiving them! :D

Those sound incredible without the Mikimoto price! Congratulations on your upcoming 50th!!!

Can''t wait to see these - they will be awesome.

Whitby, you have got to post some pics as soon as they are ready. Your 50th birthday is turning out to be rather impressive in the jewelry department. I''m five years away but you are inspiring me to start my wish list!

Whitby, those sound gorgeous! They''ll be similar in design to the earrings you got for your neice, except that yours will dangle, right?

These sound beautiful Whitby! Can''t wait to see pics!

cellantini - exactly - but upside down, a whole lot bigger, and on a shepherd''s hook. i cant believe i''m getting them, actually! when i tried on the ones in las vegas i knew i could replicate them, but didn''t know if i could justify the expense; mine certainly aren''t 48k, but they''re definitely not a cheap pair of earrings, either! yet 15 months later - here we are! (yay)

gayletmom - i think i started my list years out!

i have a set number of pieces i would like to purchase over the next year, then i''m done. i''ve always been like that; i dont keep decorating, i dont keep trying to add pieces to any collection, i dont keep trying to tweak...whatever it is i''m working on. and i''m like that with jewelry also. years ago i sat down and worked out the pieces i wanted. and now i''m just working my way through the list. when i get to the end - i''m done! i have 2 rings to go and 2 pairs of earrings. i dont want to keep putting all my disposable income towards jewelry; it''s time to move onto something else. (sadly, i''ve hit the age where ''something else'' is probably plastic surgery!) (yay) (not)

Those are going to be amazing! Can''t wait to see them. South Sea pearls are one of my favorites!

BTW I''m a June baby too. June 2nd.

hi innerkitten :)

pearl is a great birthstone to have, don't you think? i love them! they're so sensual and beautiful...

tim sent the payment off to lesley this evening, so hopefully they'll start working on them soon. they should be a glorious, sizeable pair of earrings, and i'll have them forever :)

ETA i'm june 20th :)

Yay!!!!!!

When I first saw "scandinavian legume" I was like

Hi Whitby,

So glad you are truly honoring this milestone birthday with so many wonderful pieces, and so richly deserved.

Please post pictures, I''m sure it will be amazing and an inspiration.

Whitby, you are inspiring me! Actually, just a couple of months ago, I started my own jewelry list. I''ve go 4.5 years to go until the big 50 and a 20th and 25th anniversary all in the same general time frame. I''m like you in that there will be a certain number of pretties on it and then I''ll be finished. I''m not saying I won''t come up with some wonderful addition but I will be "complete" in the jewelry sense. I like to have sort of a stable of go-to pieces-I don''t wear different things out all the time. My current list includes a couple of eternity rings to be worn alone or with my future upgraded e-ring, a pair of diamond huggie earrings, preferably with a detachable drop (probably pearl), a DBTY necklace or maybe two of different lengths, my ongoing very own charm bracelet project, some sort of simple necklace with a killer pearl pendant, and maybe a diamond tennis bracelet. After that, I hope that I can spend all of my money traveling!

I can''t wait to see your earrings-they sound just stunning!
