Hi everyone!!!

So I wanted to get some opnions (or more ideas) for my save-the-dates. As you know, we are having a pretty formal spanish themed wedding, but all guests are staying at the hotels located right on the beach!....So I wanted to make the STDs and welcome bacg more "beachy and fun" (since I know everyone is looking forward to that!), but I don't want to spend a fortune!

I have been browsing thesocialbutterfly.com and they have the cutest things!!!,

At first I was looking at more "palm tree" designs and liked a couple, but then I found this one that I thought was fun and I could actually just do it myself and save some $$.

I thought we could get the brown flip-flop and then we could use more fun stripes (all different)

What do you guys think? any other ideas? suggestions? comments?

M~

Edited: To fix invitations site link!

I love all the figures on this one! Maybe I can have one flip-flop and one fishy with the wesbite info?

Very cute, but...

If I got an STD shaped like a flip-flop I''d be expecting a beach wedding. Yours will be anything but, so you might want to be careful about the wording.

Do you and your DF have a history of flip-flopping on the wedding question by any chance?

hehe, no history of flip-flopping, I just think they''re cute!

The actual invitation will be very formal looking...

What could I possibly say to make it clear it is not a beach wedding? "please do not be confused by the flip-flop, this is a formal event!" haha, just kidding

I want people to see the whole weekend as a "vacation"...we will all be staying right on the beach. Friday is the wedding, Saturday we will all be hanging out together by the beach (we might do a brunch or cocktail hour for family and close friends) and Saturday night we are all going on party buses (hopefully) to South Beach! hehe. Sunday FI and I would leave to our honeymoon.

Is it too confusing if then you get a very formal (I''m thinking dark chocolate brown pocketfold and ivory) invitation?

Thanks~

M~

I think it might give an inaccurate expectation...it is absolutely precious, but for a formal affair it might not be the very best choice. Maybe you could do more formal but very simple STDs, but add in the text or as an information enclosure w/ the hotel stuff that you hope that guests will take advantage of the beach and relaxing atmosphere (in addition to celebrating with you)? Then you could use the beachy invites for the rehearsal dinner if you''re doing that and its not too formal. Just my thoughts. I do love the idea of the ribbon & paper flip-flop. It is very cute!

we''re not having a rehersal dinner so that''s not an option...

no sad faces allowed!
okay, so if you want to send both the formal and the vacation messages, just use the beachy card for the STD, but come up with some text to get across that the wedding itself is gonna be a traditional affair but other than that they should all kick back and enjoy the sand and sun while they''re there. problem solved.

hehe...ok...

I just thought of ANOTHER idea...I haven''t seen anything like it though.

How about something similar but spanish? like a spanish fan, or a bull? haha

M~

i agree for a formal affair, it''s ok to have a less formal STD but not necessarily an informal one. sends mixed messages. you can reference your website on the STD and make your website beachy with palm trees and explain away there--but i''d keep the STD somewhat standard. Mine was less formal in that I didn''t use full names and it was normal paper (not thick high quality), handwritten addresses and didn''t bother matching my colors and all that.

something like this?
No idea how to do this though lol

Mandarine, those are cute! But I like your idea of something similar but a Spanish theme. I think a fan would be great!

ETA: I wrote this before your post w/the fan pics in it. Yes, I think something like that would be great if you could find it a little more Spanish looking.

but maybe with a Spanish pattern, more formal...?

M~

I can''t find any more websites with anything similar. An actual fan would be too expensive (and bulky to mail...-more postage!-)

I have no idea how to do something like this, I guess I can go to Michael''s and see what they say..

Those are pretty cute and fun!

Duhhh, I just got it, those actually fold (I just saw that after examining the picture). Would I have to get two different pieces of paper and stick them together?? or can you print on the back of a patterned paper??

Crafty girls! Come in!!!!!!!!!!!

M~

Hmm, are those fans you found actually save-the-dates? If so, you likely just print on the back of the fan. Or it probably would be easy enough to print out your text and just attach it to the back.

I think tying in the Spanish theme is great, but I''m not sure that the fans scream Spanish (to me). Maybe you can do a simple design on a card in your colors and print over that? Papersource has some cool stamps; do these look Spanishy to you?

brocade stamp
large flower stamp

I also always love STD''s with pictures of the couple. If it''s goin'' on the fridge anyway, why not?

I just found those on a website that actually does them...they didn''t provide any details on them though...so I have no idea!

I found these too...not crazy about them, but they may be simpler to make..

Thanks Mercoledi! Those are cute!!!!!!!!!! I guess if I go the more formal route, that is a cute option.

Fans are a very very Spanish thing (just not those). I was actually going to give authentic Spanish fans as favors for the girls (that is very traditional in Spain).

There is a difference between Spanish fans and Asian fans though, all the images I keep finding are more Asian...

FI is not crazy at all about the picture idea, I''m really not a big fan either, although I do like the funny pictures (like Robbie did) and the dog save the dates!!!!. I''m just afraid my dog is not very good at staying still..hehe

like the flop idea, but i''d probably go for something spanish just to be consistant. you can still keep the fun, though.
what about a maraca?

haha, that would be cute but Spanish don''t really use maracas...that''s more latin.

Spanish things I can think of:

- Spanish fans
- Flamenco dresses
- Castanuelas (the little things flamenco dancers use to make noise with their hands as they dance)
- Spanish Guitar
- A Bull..haha
- Wine
- Olive oil..hehe

Hmmmmm....that''s all I can think of!

i was afraid of that.... hehe.
i thought of those noise makers too, didn''t know the name to type it though.

i love the idea of a lacy fan for a save the date!

haha, I actually have some (I used to go to Flamenco classes)...but those are expensive!

I thought of cheap tiny bottles of Spanish wine, that would be pretty cute!. Not sure I could pull that off though with my budget...and then who knows how much postage would be...

What about using iron ons and printing them on red hankies (simulating the bullfighter's red flag thingy...).

If you want to recreate the folding fans you showed in the first sample, you don't need to glue 2 pieces together front-to-back. You could just cut half-circles of the patterned heavy paper (I'm sure you can find some scrapbooking paper with a spanish feel or you could glue wrapping paper onto cardstock) and then cut smaller half-circles of gold doilies. Score (if necessary) where you want to fold, then fold, and you've got it.
If you want to get fancier you could use lace instead of doilies -- they make those round lace headcoverings for synagogues you could probably get somewhere...

I like that idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then it will match my lacy dress! hehe

I was thinking what about a more formal invitation with castanets tied on a ribbon from the corner. I found these
