Hi Selflove,

I saw pics of the LA get together...looks like everyone had a great time. It''s been a long time since I''ve lurked on this board, although I probably found it a couple of years ago. I''d be interested in the next get together, as you seem like a nice group of gals! I''ve also gotten some interesting ideas and tips from this board. I am hoping I have to do minimal wedding planning. It''s bad enough trying to get families from two different hemispheres in one place!!!

My FI and I have a pretty large guest list (around 250) because of our freakishly large families. We found a place that is BYO everything and you rent it for 12 hours! My FI''s family is Irish and an open bar is essential (read:expensive) but my family wouldn''t really care either way. We got frustrated at the high cost of catering options at other places and decided it would be best to buy alcohol from Costco, etc. If you are having a smaller wedding and dont'' care about partying super late, there are mansions in Los Angeles that rent :) And of course theknot.com message boards/Los Angeles local board is a great resource for budget locations!

Good luck :)

I am crossing my fingers and hoping that my parents will pay for most of it. We aren''t officially engaged yet - hopefully sometime soon - but we have HUGE families. My side alone w/out international family members is 140 he has about 100 on his side. Not including friends, co-workers etc. I have four brothers and he wants to add 5 of his closest friends to the bridal party - read 18 people in the bridal party...ugh. not even sure what I want. At this point, if my parents are paying - I will let them make all of the decisions. I want to dance with my daddy and have a great time with our families. Unfortunately our tradition is a typically large event in NY w/full sit down dinner including open bar, cocktail hour, dessert bar (can''t remember official name) etc. We''ll see how it goes once I get teh ring...lol...

curlygirl,
OMG-- I was wondering if anyone else has the (in this case) misfortune of being in NYC. We''re just starting the process for 100 people, and it''s just so expensive.Yikes! Prices aren''t any better in the outer boroughs either- Long Island, Westchester, etc.
