Hi Everyone.

I had posted just one post before I went off on my ring purchase. Maybe I should''ve read and learned more, before buying my ring, but I was just so eager to finally get a "sparkly" on my finger. I know this ring is not the best but it is good for now because I plan to upgrade sometime in the future. For now, can someone explain to me what these Ideascope and Aset images mean?

I had just finalized my diamond purchase today with Whiteflash. I''m glad that Bob has gotten such great praise because I was worried about buying a diamond without seeing it first. And what does everyone think of the X factor? I chose this cut because I wanted the look of a princess cut without the worry of the edges wearing out.

Thanks for any and all input!

Here are the stats on the diamond:

Report: AGS
. Shape: XFactor
. Carat: 0.805
. Depth %: 70.9
. Table %: 68.3

. Polish: Excellent
. Symmetry: Excellent
. Culet: Pointed
. Fluorescence: Negligible

i think it looks great and like you, i like the idea of the cut corners.

I don''t know very much about asset images, but I can explain a little about ideal scope images (image one). Someone please correct me if any of this is incorrect. Basically, red and black are good and represent light returning out of the stone. Black is head-obstruction I believe. White is bad because it represents light leakage that is not being returned back.

This image looks pretty nice to me, very little leakage! Nothing to worry about.

I''m very excited to see pictures of the finished product, x-factors are such a cool cut. I love cut-cornered brilliant cut squarish stones and if this was around when I bought my radiant I might have purchased one of these instead.

Hi belle and kcoursolle,

Thanks for the help. I will definitely take pictures and have it posted here once the ring is complete. Since I had such a hard time deciding on a ring design that wouldn''t break the bank (my fiance''s account), I finally figured it was time to do a custom design.

I''ll post it when I can.

Thanks again.

Congratulations on your new ring! I was never a princess fan, but I absolutely LOVE the X-factor! Please show us pictures of the finished product!

I don''t know anything about this cut. The pictures you posted look wonderful!!! I like the symetry and the pattern. The dark areas are all evenly spread around the stone. To me this means it will be balanced and pleasing.

I think it was a great choice!

And yet you already have plans to upgrade? Did you talk to the vendor about their upgrade policy for this type of cut?

Can''t wait to see your future photos.

very nice - should outperform princess cuts

I posted the pics to make sure I was making a wise decision and if not, I know that pricescope members will definitely let me know otherwise. I appreciate everyone''s input.

Earlier today, I was reading a forum discussion about the importance of an Idealscope image and fortunately for me, this diamond already had the pics available. However, not being able to understand what I was looking at was my concern. I kinda figured that if the image gave off a lot of reds that it was a good thing but I was still purchasing the diamond based off it''s star rating and I figured a 4 star was a good choice. I''m glad that I''ve gotten good feedback. I''m always afraid of being too pushy or annoying if I ask too many questions about a diamond or request to see some other options, but it seems like that is what I should be doing when making a big purchase like a diamond or diamond ring.

Stone Hunter, WF upgrade policy was one of the major reasons I decided to purchase from them. As I understand it, they have a lifetime upgrade policy on any GIA or AGS diamond that was purchased from them while other vendors it had to be a certain cut or diamond shape. I plan to upgrade (for the 2nd time) because I want at least a 1 carat stone with better color and clarity. I want a color as close to colorless as possible and maybe a better clarity (if just on paper), it seems as an Asian person (I''m speaking for myself, family and friends) - the clarity & color (and size if you can afford it) is important to us Asians even it''s just on paper.

After a few weeks of searching (which I thought was long), I finally settled on the X-Factor as the diamond to put in my setting for now since I am anxious to wear something I like. I was considering a radiant cut because I''ve read that the corners won''t break off or wear out like some princess cuts tend to do, but I didn''t like the way the facets looked, and I''ve always wanted a princess cut diamond so the X-factor was a good combination of my two creterias.

My fiance did get me a ring (it was a mall purchase), he tried his best but I didn''t like it. It took me months of guilt and resentment before I finally explained to him why I didn''t like it. And I''m sorry to say (very shallow)

but the centor stone was tiny. I think I would have been happy with the purchase if I knew that was the best he could do. However, a month later (according to him he was broke) he spent about 2k to have a mechanic do more engine work on his car... he''s a one of those guys that like to supercharge their cars. So it wasn''t necessary engine work. Anyhow, I explained to him that I felt less important because he spent way less on the E-ring than on his car. So now everything is all sorted out and it was just a matter of communicating how I felt in receiving something I felt he didn''t give enough thought and consideration to - so my final (I hope) upgrade will be after we are married. Now I buy what I like and he pays for it.

Everyone here seems so nice that I felt comfortable explaining things. I''m happy to say I don''t feel bad for not liking my original E-ring anymore because my fiance understands and is happy to get me the new ring!

Thanks again for all the input!

there is very little light leakage for sure, but not a lot of contrast IMO.

Oh yes, our ring should always cost more than unnecessary work on their cars!! LMAO!!!! ;)

Oh wow- that''s STUNNING! I''m a princess fan (have one from WF), and I dig the x-factor. Great choice!

Can''t wait to see the finished ring.

Looks lovely, and I''m a big fan of the cut corners.

Just double check their policy to put my mind at ease! I always have to be sure about stuff like that. And of course I think it''s just GREAT for you to know you will upgrade and plan for it.

I don''t think you''re shallow AT ALL. I''m just glad that he got it when you explained it to him! What did you do with the old ring?

There is a lot of contrast - you can tell from the ASET shot C

I did contact WF and double check on their upgrade policy. It looks like that they will give me the purchase price less shipping (- $50) towards the new diamond. There is no resetting fee, but if I upgrade to a diamond that might require altering the ring, then there will be a fee. Sounds like a pretty straight forward and awesome deal. Once I get my ring (it should be completed by Nov 9), I may not want to upgrade just because it might be too darn pretty to give up! I may not be able to post pictures for awhile because my birthday is in December and what I had asked for from Nick (fiance) is a digital camera. I told him about this forum and all the diamond "crazies"

like me and he looked scared!

I think he feels I''m already diamond obssessed without more encouragement. For a girl that hardly ever wear jewelry, the quest for my dream engagement ring turned me into a diamond and jewelry freak - even though I still barely wear any. Just my watch (a present from Nicky) and I can''t even wear the diamond earrings he bought me because they pinch my ears.

Which I had to get my ears re-pierced just for those beauties. Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions!

I gotta get me some of those tools, garry!

Do you have any pictures of your x-factor if you''ve received it yet? I am very interested to see what it looks like set. The more pics the better!

I bet that stone will be beautiful. Can''t wait to see your photos. You will have a very unique stone.
