hi everyone! i have a 0.5 c rb currently set in a solitaire - i am very lucky to be upgrading my ring - what should i do with the original stone - sell to go bigger in the upgrade? or turn it into a vintage inspired ring i have oftern dreamed of? what would you do?

It would be the perfect size (IMHO) for a flower ring.

Ditto! That was my idea :)

My second idea is get another that matches, and then get a colored stone or another diamond, and make a three-stone right hand ring :)

My THIRD idea, lol, is to get it set into a pendant - I think that size looks great in a bezeled pendant.

A stone that size would look amazing The BGD barbara pendant

If you can comfortably afford your upgrade and don't particularly need to sell your .50ct to fund it, I would absolutely turn it into the vintage type ring you dream of. Oh, and post pictures of it and your upgrade here
Very excited for you!! :appl:

I can tell you from a personal attempt to sell my two GIA certed G VS2 diamonds (they're my stud earrings) that it doesn't pay to sell a diamond because you'd be very lucky to get 40%-50% of what you paid for it, even if it's certified and it's a great stone. I honestly can't stomach losing money on anything. I would say to definitely make yourself a lovely RHR

thanks to everyone for the suggestions! after speaking with the jeweller it does seem like you lose a lot on the sale, for sentimental reasons and since I don't have a lot of diamond jewellery I think I will probably go for a reset into a pendent or a rhr - still can't decide that bit! I have only just started this process and the jeweller is still looking for my upgrade stone - the reset will follow sometime after that. As soon as DH and I get my new goodies – the PS community will be the first to see! thanks again everyone :)
