If you could choose only two bands to stack with your solitaire.....

So I will soon soon have a solitaire on my finger. Yellow gold, Victorian style.

My current engagement ring is a double halo oval diamond ring, it is quite sizeable. I just wear a thin gold band. I have a separate platinum scattered diamond band that I can wear if I want something simple.

So my question is what two bands would you have to wear with a solitaire if you could only have two. Or to phrase alternatively what two bands should I invest in? The only thing i probably don’t want to have is a plain gold band as I already have one and can pick one up cheaply. I am talking about engraved bands/eternities/coloured stone bands...
BTW I have looked at the stack of the day thread a lot and will continue to do so. Really just asking with the exception of a plain gold band what are the essential two bands you own or what would you advise me to get!
Thanks in anticipation!

Oh I'm in a similar dilemma as you @meely

So I was thinking a diamond band, I have 7 baby omc that I was going to turn into a either a 7 stone with prongs (think CVB Norah) or the Exeter style but in a 7 stone.

Then I'd have a plain gold band, could be engraved, or I'm really tempted to get the Cartier trinity ring lol.

It's good that you already have a simple yellow gold band (similar width and height to your solitaire setting). That is my first choice.

The rest depends on your style and the specific ring. Do you have any photos you can share of the solitaire in question?

I love a french cut band. I always swoon over those.

Gorgeous I don’t think either of those would be a wrong choice!

Ha no, I have a thread which shows you the direction it is going in though and a cad which gives you an idea of size.

I love french cut bands Missy I am not sure that they are remotely affordable.

Do you like matchy matchy styles @meely or are you okay with a mismatched band with a gap?

Oh I'd love a French cut band too, or a single cut one.

I have this one pinned on instagram:

That is stunning.

@meely would that work with your solitaire? Swoon!

It is stunning and I could probably stretch pricewise but I think I would prefer an eternity and looking it at almost makes me think I like them all set together with no gaps.
I didn’t mention in my opening post but my stone is an N so that is another factor as I don’t want higher color stones in any eternities I might wear as I am not so keen on the contrast.

Just wanted to add I would wait til your solitaire arrives and you wear it for a while before adding more bands. Get to know her and think about what would look amazing with her. Wearing her before you get additional bands and taking your time so you really get what you want.

I think if you want to wear it flush with this ring you're making, tell DK to adjust for this in your CAD. I think from the last set of pictures the donut is going to be sticking out.

Yes I agree with that. You may want to reconsider diamonds in your band if you don't want to see the contrast. It might be challenging to source (GIA if that is what your stone is) N diamonds in your eternity.

Yes I agree Missy. It’s a bit more complicated because I am in the UK. So I am thinking when the ring is made I will ask if one of the ladies at DK can try it on with some of the bands they make to give an idea. There is an engraved one I really like and one with alternate engraved flowers and diamonds. I am concerned about mismatched heights if it doesn’t get tried on with the ring.

My preference is for a slight gap

Yes you are right I will speak to David about it.

That's a great idea. Also ask DK to take measurements so when you order a band in the future he will have all the necessary info.

I love a gap (for me) as it signals they are separate and distinct rings.

Here's my gap...it changes from less of a gap to more of a gap depending on how swollen my fingers are at the time.

<---------Well, due to budget I can answer this question
This is what I've got, so this is what I wear.
If I had any extra funds I would be a band...allll the bands!

Ah but they do look perfect together. Are they an intentional trio?

I like the gap too Missy!

Yes, the ring and band were made 'together' and Agatha was the perfect spacer. I think of them as a set.

They look really nice together I assumed they were but sometimes you can get lucky! If you were to add another band either wear with or as an alternative what would it be?

@meely I have/had the same problem with a warm colored diamond (mine is O-P) and diamond bands. I had this one made with my setting and wear only it 95% of the time. I also have an inherited yellow band with gold "dots" similar to sizing bumps that is an eternity ring that i sometimes add. It's fun to think about exchanging the bands, I think. I might just get inspired to do so as well. 20191214_095903.jpg

To those who have ruby/sapphire/emerald french cut rings what would you recommend as a source?
Vintage/DK/CvB/BeverleyK I have seen recommended any other thoughts or feelings in this?

I particularly like this DK ring but in yellow gold. Does anyone have it or one similar?

Now that is just gorgeous! Absolutely beautiful set. Any more photos please?

@meely all truthfulness (I'm a bit embarrassed to say) my band is inspired by a DK design, except it was yellow gold mostly instead of platinum, had fewer flowers, and the kicker, had French cut diamonds along the band. After buying my diamond, his band just wasn't in the budget. I would love to one day have him make the original for me to replace or add to this one.

Engraved, definitely on the list. One of those DK's/vintage would be lovely.
If I had no budget, I'd get an Erika Winters.

Reading you mentioned OMC band reminded me of this Jewelbygrace OMC band:
