as with diamonds, you get what you pay for......meaning a really good stone is going to cost. but there is something in color for every budget....same as diamonds. if you want top color and cut it will cost. there are always tradeoffs. there are bargains, as MJO/maurice has stated but most bargains are only recognizable by someone such as maurice who has developed an eye and been ''playing'' in the color stone market for quite some time. taking some time to research a desired stone will help in making sure you are not paying more than you should. MJO/maurice is a good resouce and a good reference in the color stone world....if he says contact so and so at such and such and such and say i sent you, i''d do it!

Richard is a wonderful cutter. The stone is very pretty although I prefer a deeper blue. You buy what appeals to YOU and don''t let anyone change your mind unless it is because of a flaw in the stone itself.Date: 5/10/2006 12:15:26 PM

I agree with MZ and PG defintely. I am so much more interested in color and some gemstones you can pay more than diamonds. Just to step on the dark side here... Personally, one of the things that upset me is that people assume that I could not afford a diamond and therefore got a gemstone. I have heard people apologizing somewhat for having a gemstone ring instead of a diamond. They tell the other person that it is only temp till they can afford something else. I NEVER apologize for my ring and I tell everyone that I love it better than a diamond. I would not even think sustitude a gemstone for a diamond. I would not want a diamond e-ring. But I think to get a gemstone, just to have it in a ring till you can afford another... well... I don;t know.
All I am trying to say is that it is sad when people turn to gemstones cause they are waiting for the ''real'' thing. To me a gemstone is the only thing. I have no use for those colorless pieces of glass, just as some do not have any use for those ''cheap'' subistite for diamonds..
But that is just My .02. I am sure that this is not the case for your freind, but I just had to express my opinion...
Do you have photos of the zircon in your setting? These might be good choice for me, I want a blue stone that shines. It appears the refrative index can be compaired to a diamond.Date: 5/9/2006 1:00:23 PM

I totally agree. I wanted a gem to replace my diamond in my current setting, when I get this one re-set. I started with colors... decided I wanted something that looked like a canary diamond and was affordable (saphires seemed out for me... but my budget was 300 bucks)... and Zircon''s have a high refractive index-- close to diamonds-- so BAM. I knew what to ask for. But definitely start with color.Date: 5/9/2006 12:26:52 PM

Hello,
Personally I would find out what color she would like and then pick the stone. She should get something she will want to wear later so she can keep it as a memento of her original ring and not just get tossed asside. Even sapphires come in a variety of colors so first choose a color.
Regards,
Maurice

Ed at Wildfishgems is still hunting for mine, sorry! He has my deposit... but because I want a custom cut stone to fit an existing setting, AND in a color that''s hard to get in Zircon''s (yellow instead of gold) it''s taking time. I will post pics the second I have it, though.
Personally with the prices they are going for... I can''t believe more people aren''t getting them. Such good deals to be found with Zircons. This is the Zircon that convinced me that I had found the right gemstone for me. I was just captivated by all the sparkle and fire. Take a look at some Blue Zircons and see if any of them catch your heart. I''m still drooling over that round! I hope mine comes out as beautiful and brilliant.
Bring your ring. You may see something at the Gem Show Sunday.Date: 5/16/2006 6:02:16 PM

Me neither... still no update on the Zircon front though. He said he was meeting with someone today and would get back to me.
