If you were to take on a new project...

Or put them all together for massive finger coverage:

This one for SURE for sure is the way you should set them. I'm impressed with the Afghan tourmalines! I considered buying them but was afraid they wouldn't be minty enough. They look deliciously minty from your pics. When are you planning to set them? :kiss2:

If I was to take on another project I would buy Miss Sugar here (3.11 carat) and have a jeweler make a setting that is very similar to this Stuller setting, but set high enough to wear with a diamond band. In white gold. :Up_to_something2:

I’m surprised this one is the favorite! The Himalaya Mine pink tourmaline was in my box of stones to sell because I thought my skin was too pink to pull it off :P2, but combined with the Afghan tourmaline pair, I might be able to pull a light pink stone off. All five stones together in a row might have too much width to fit across my finger though... I’m not sure when I’ll get around to setting them, but it’s fun to play around with the different combinations. The Afghan tourmalines are super bright! I had already broken my buying ban during Gene’s last drop and figured why not go for them :mrgreen2:.

ooooh, I will email to ask about it. I don't know how fussed I am about size.

My thoughts on setting: the part that holds the stone should maybe be very high carat gold, firstly for the color, secondly for the softness of the metal. I would have a wire frame going all the way around it, with wires either across the corners or around the stone or just like tabs that wrap around the side every so often. Basically like a geometric cage that gently holds it in place. I'd check, though, if high carat gold or platinum is softer. I'd use whatever the softest metal is so there is less risk of damage.
I agree with the high carat gold because it’s the softest and the color is best. Thanks for the setting ideas! I am imagining something like that, kind of a back plate wire frame.

If you were to take on another project - which would you choose?
Gosh, they are so different and have equal beauty but in different ways. I really cannot say!

The shifty nature of the Jupiter one makes it more visually interesting to me. The Gemfix one is nice, but I don't see orange with the video posted, and it's such an even color distribution I could mistake it for a lab stone.

I don't prefer sleepy stones so I would choose the one that sparkles.

More inspo! Aside from a ring, I've also thought of doing a pendant with a pad as the centerpiece for designs like this:

upload_2019-9-12_10-38-4.png
upload_2019-9-12_10-38-20.png

With either a round or pear shaped padparadscha in the center :D

I would pass on both -- sorry but not the gemfix stone (too sleepy) and while I like the jupyter gems stone I see a lot of brown in it. I would go look at mrs-b's thread in preloved about her selling her gemfix blue sapphire.

If I wanted something more reddish pinkish orangish then I would through gemfix's spinels.

I received the Rhodochrosite rhomboid cube, and I am totally in love with it! It’s silky to the touch, and has such amazing, intense color which is mixed with a softness which is hard to describe. It also has a sheen to it.
Now to design the yellow gold metal part. Early morning pics....

That looks fantastic! I’d go for the richest 18k alloy you can find.

Thank you! Yes, that’s exactly what I’ll look for.

Sorry about the Jupiter stone and the tilt window. They are very lovely but understand why they weren’t quite ‘right’. Any new leads for other stones?

It’s real?!?! Not a hypothetical project!
Looks beautiful!

Thanks so much! Absolutely needs the high karat gold! I’ve got s few designs which I’ll draw and post up.

Yes and I blame this thread. ;)2 I started to think about what project I would like if I was to take on a project. Then I started to think "Hmmm........why not?"

Is she a spess?

Is she a spess?

Yes, 3.11 carats. A Loliondo spess because I like the yellowish/orange color of these stones and don't mind the sugar inclusions. :) I had the vendor send pics of their neon spessies and chose this one. Not a great photo, but sent for me to approve the height of the ring before the stone is set. I don't wear right hand rings so I usually wear a colored gemstone on my wedding ring finger, and need to wear a wedding band with it.

How. Beautiful and exciting!!is that the setting or is a different one being made? Sorry for being obtuse, I just am curious.
What s great size and color. I wouldn’t mind the inclusions either.

Thank you. :) The setting is being made by a jeweler- I used the Stuller setting for inspiration.

I’ve two...

Yellow sapphire

Fire opal (that puts my really orange spess to shame)

Feeling a bit broke so may take my time to set. Thinking ready made for the opal and custom for the sapphire.

Omg I so love this. Now I need a cube/block too. Gah...

I would go hunt for a big and decent, relatively clean green emerald and halo the heck out of it. Because the emerald has to be protected, right?

Inspo from the Bangkok gem fair. 5.x ct emmy ring for a cool US$17K.

After thinking some more, decided that once I find a pad, I want to set it in a pendant design like this:

pendant design.jpg

I'm envisioning 18k rose gold and diamonds scattered throughout, represented by the tiny rounds and marquise shapes.

The pink one, better color. The other one is too peachy for me.
