a trade in on your natural diamond for a MMD of the same brand...would you do it?

Would you go for a bigger, higher color, higher clarity MMD?

No

In the hypothetical situation, yes, for either partial money back or for an additional diamond with another cut while keeping the same stats of the original diamond. I don't care much for the cert statistics and think blue nuance looks pretty cool. (I'm still puzzled why so many people consider it a con.) Stria that would affect light performance would bother me.

No.
And I'd be pretty horrified by the idea that a trusted vendor might be looking to swindle other consumers with a "deal" like that.
Nothing fundamentally wrong with MMD. I've got no moral, philosophical, or fiscal problem with them. But MMD and mined are different markets that command different pricetags, and I'm confident they'll stay that way, just like they have in the CS world.

Hypothetical situation right?

a vendor soliciting the offer to the customer - feels weird.
a vendor agreeing to offer it at the customers request feels like the customer knows the facts of their choices.

Possibly, if the deal was stout enough and it would be a substantial upgrade in the 4Cs, while being encompassed by their upgrade program.
A diamond is a diamond is a diamond.

Oh yes. I should say ^^ this, absolutely. If it's a customer request... Sure, that's the customer's decision.

This, to me, would be the interesting part.
there’s no guarantee of policies not being discontinued/modified down the road - but the initial offer actually being there - that really would state something about the vendors thoughts about the ‘value’ of MMD, IMO.

Yes for sure. Even though I don’t have “super ideal” which is only coined for round brilliants, I essentially have a MMD AVR, in a near colorless OEC with perfect light return that would be the price of my Mercedes if it were earth mined. By going with MMD with same optical specs and make up as a earth mined diamond, I get to have my unbelievable diamond as well as my awesome car! Win win!

i have a 2.80ct Heritage OEC cut to August Vintage Round specs, for about 1/3 the cost. No regrets going MMD for my 20 year anniversary ring.

PS: I am soooooooo excited to see certain superideal diamond vendors start to carry MMDs, I can “buy in” into a super ideal ROCK without upgrading slowly to reach the size/specs that I want as my final upgrade.

I dont think a MMD should be in the same ball park as a natural mined diamond, they are much cheaper for a reason.

So my answer would be NO

Another no.

It would not be soliciting if it was offered on their website. I'm not saying they should call each of their customers.

Definitely not.

No, as my EC has great sentimental value that money cannot buy.

DK =)2

I wouldn’t personally trade in any of my mined diamonds for lab, super ideal (of which I have none) or otherwise. Rounds aren’t really my jam anyway, I prefer fancies. I personally feel comfortable only buying small size stones that don’t have any resale value anyway in lab diamonds, or something like pink/blue diamonds that I can’t afford in any case. But it’s ok with me if they offer the policy.

conceptually, i don't think i could trade in. i want earth mined.
but i need to see MMD in person before i make that call.. i rather like the idea that i get a bigger stone and better specs than what i currently have...

I’m already very happy with the size of my earth mined diamond, so I’m not interested in trading it in for a bigger lab diamond.

No. Bubbalah is my HG Diamond. I am completely smitten with her. ♥️
