So you are making an argument in favor of the 1.5 G? I read your post to say the size difference is negligable, but difference in color might not be.
Correct.

A suggestion to the OP. Do you have time to go somewhere that sells well cut diamonds, like a Hearts on Fire dealer, and see the different colors? That would help you I think. And worth a grand if it''s not a lot of trouble.
the opposite could be true too though - that the color is negligable and the size is noticible. Just depends. I''m clarity sensitive... I couldn''t go below a VS but happily warmed the color up!

Thank you for all the opinions. Going to look at the differences between a well cut G and H will solve hopefully sove my dilemma.

Glad to hear it, now there will be no doubt. Let us know what you decide!

sydney, if I catch you before you go, please make sure to look at the stones near natural light (window) if at all possible. Jewelers lights will not let you get the full picture.

And try to get a 1.5 vs. a 1.6, too, to see if your eyes can detect a size difference!

But remember that size is really all in the mm!

The ct weight doesn''t tell the true story.

I would go for the G assuming all things were equal. You might not be able to tell the difference between a 1.5 and a 1.6 carat diamond. But perhaps you might be able to tell the difference between a G and an H. Not many could, but I''ll bet most could see that difference over the 10 point difference.

Can''t emphasize this enough. Make sure to look at the stones in natural lighting. The difference may not be noticeable under jeweler''s lights...and who goes around life walking with those mounted above their heads?

Although man, those jeweler''s lights were a brilliant invention. How many sales do you think were made based on "show room sparkle" alone?

After I got my ring, I of course had to shine every light possible on it, and my hubby finally said he was going to get me a miners helmet to wear.

Too many.

It really is a toss up, as others have said. I would go with the 1.6 H, because I am not color sensitive, would prefer the larger diamond...

In that size I would go for the G. It''s not that much more money (proportionately) and the size difference isn''t enough for me to go down to an H.

In a smaller stone where 10 points might make a more noticable size difference I would go for the H.
