Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports provided

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

Either way, depth 58 and table 63 is not good, either.

The only way to get 2 cts for that price is probably like K color or an off cut that still looks good, like the Leo.

Here is the current retail for a 2 ct. Leo diamond from Kay Jewelers: http://www.kay.com/en/kaystore/diamonds---gemstones/diamond-solitaire-ring-2-ct-round-cut--14k-white-gold/100020/100020.100023.100050

Your price of 15k is good - is this a previously owned stone? Leos are generally not sold according to color and clarity - you usually just get whatever specs are available in the store. The appraisal that comes with them is no where comparable to a GIA cert unless someone has specifically sent a Leo to GIA.

As to which is better, that's all subjective. They are cut with more facets and you do get a more 'splintery' look than you do with an ideal cut stone. Just depends on which look you prefer. They can be pretty stones and if that particular style of diamond cutting appeals to you, you might have found a winner!

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

A little off topic: Could someone clarify for me why they would say they can't hold onto this stone? I'm a lurker but I don't have buying experience and it just sounds so... pushy? I'm kinda stuck on that point. Does it matter as long as you are educated enough to get a fair price?

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

Usually the jeweler does not own many of the diamonds, they are basically being borrowed "on memo." And then whoever does own it wants it back, usually to lend to another jeweler who is looking for something with those specs.

See the EGL 2 carat I mentioned that Julien you noted is deep...any additional comments?

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

Miss rocks whole sales is around 35% to 40% cheaper in general so that gets me to around the same price the jeweler is quoting me...so I think its at market...thanks for sharing the Leo diamond sold at retail

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

Here are the proportions:
Depth 63.5%
Table 58%
Crown 15.7%
Pavilion 43.3%
Crown Angle 37°
Pavilion Angle 41.1°

HCA rates it a 4.6-Good, "Only if price is your main concern." It is outside of the GIA and AGS top grades.`

The photo, unfortunately, does not give us any more insight.

This one, actually, is under 15K: http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/10120/

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

ok I had to google what HCA rating is - where do you go to enter data to get the rating? I wonder if they can rate the leo

"Only if price is your main concern." It is outside of the GIA and AGS top grades.`<---What do you mean? I lost you? Why do you have this in quotation too?

As for the diamond you recommended, I dont want to go less than an I color and I would rather stick to an SI1 ...I will do SI 2 if its clean..I would like a 1.8-2ct...based on the criteria I am mentioning, is my budget enough? or how much would a good diamond go for the criteria I am mentioning

I am attaching one more pic of the leo diamond just in case its beneficial

I saw this 1.7 ct GIA certified : 5106196955 ...I am entertaining this stone (last resort) but really would like a bigger one....what do you think? Here is a pic too...its going for $12.5k

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

I cant retrieve the GIA Report for the 1.7...I need to check with the jeweler the exact weight

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

This is the HCA: https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca You should read all the fine print. 0-2 is Excellent, 2-4 is Very Good, and after 4 the exact description is irrelevant to me.

You cannot rate the Leo because HCA only works on modern round brilliants, not modified ones.

"Only if price is your main concern," is in quotations marks because that is the assessment HCA will give you.

Ask the jeweler, what is the most brilliant, sparkly round he has, over 1 ct, no budget. Compare. Basically, when you want 2 cts, I+ color for 14K, there are not that many well-cut ones. I can see 1.8 cts, 1.9s are very rare, and there's a price jump for 2 cts.

I posted 1.81 I SI1 for <14 up above.

Julien

It doesn't hv to be the perfect diamond but good to look at :) I don't see the post in the 1.8 carat?

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

Thanks I will call to ask if eye clean

I don't think the 1.73 quoted at 12.5k has good proportions : Gia report no 5106196955
Do u agree?

I am seeing couple of new stones next week... I told the jeweler I prefer a round cut not modified... I hope I can get ur thoughts next week ie mon/tues... Thanks!

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

Is the pavilion angle and crown ideal for the 2.01 you posted? I'm assuming the case since u posted them ...does this hold true for the other you posted?

Well, it depends on your point of view. It fits within GIA Excellent grade. A I understand it you would rather get a 2 ct and sacrifice cut. I think it should still be nice, though. Needs an Ideal Scope picture.

Is it as good as it could be, no. A 2 ct in this price range is not going to be the tops unless you drop the color, this one is already an SI2. I actualy like this one a lot: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/2.02-carat-K-color-SI1-clarity-Excellent-cut-sku-155197 or http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/10120/ for 15K.

Hi jb1234,

I am not an expert but for what it's worth I think that Leo that you are modeling looks great in that pic. Trust your eyes and get what YOU like. Don't go off numbers, etc. because you have to wear and see this everyday with no regrets.

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

Thank you luvnilife... Leo is def not out of the pic :)

Julien what's a good budget for a 2ct to get a good stone? Just curious how much over my budget

I hate diamonds lower than an I color... Drives me nuts all the yellow I see .... Ill hv other stones to show you next week

Thanks a ton!

20k

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

For the Solomon brother link, I just see the cert report but not the link to the price quoted for the ring?? How much is it? How does an ags cert compare to a Gia cert? Is it similar ratings on a diamond?

Re: Input appreciated 2 carat Leo or not? 2 Gia reports prov

Julien,

I apologize I've been sick and just recovered. The AGS ring looks good but I am not a fan of how the color will translate using Gia rating. What do you think of the 2 carat Gia report: 614228882? I know the Depth is not ideal but what category would it be? I know its eye clean. Do you think this diamond would sparkle? It's going for 13.7k dollars. There is another diamond that I will be asking for your advice shortly. I am traveling out of the country soon so my boyfriend gave me a deadline this week to make a decision. He's fed up with my indecisiveness ;) pls hang in there!
