When my older daughter was in preschool, she was convinced that her (and her father''s) skin color was ''darker green.''

That''s so cute. And it just reminded me of something I had completely forgotten. When my mother first told me that my race was black, I kept looking at her weird because I was convinced that I was orange!! LOL!!

I''m Italian he''s Vietnamese. Surprisingly (well maybe not since we live in the south

) we''ve experienced some stares and comments. I get a lot of dirty looks from older Asian people. Older white people stare too. It really hasn''t been a problem with the younger crowd. I don''t think his mother was too happy at first but I have no idea because she doesn''t speak English. I get along great with his siblings. My parents love him but my grandmother did make a comment (thankfully we were all able to kind of laugh it off well because its grandma and even thought it was HIGHLY offensive it wasn''t in her day and she didn''t mean it as offensive) she asked me if his family were "boat people" (to those of you who don''t know during the Viet war a lot of immigrants came over on boats so people referred to them as "boat people"). I responded "no Grandma they flew over in a plane" and she seemed to be satisfied with that response, even more so when she heard his dad was in the war for the American side and lost an arm

. My grandpa also served in numerous wars and my grandma worked on the planes so they love service people.

For the longest time I never thought about the fact that I was in an interracial relationship until one day we were driving to my parents (who live in the country) and he made a remark along the lines of "Do I have to worry about the KKK here?" I was like "What are you talking about?" He responded "Uh hello, I''m with a little white girl- you know I''m not white right?" It all kind of hit me then....
