Is there any obvious defect or issue with this diamond based on the specs?

Oh yes, this is the round that thinks it’s a marquis, or vice-versa. I am clearly not as adept and agile as my helpful Pricescope folks and now I can’t remember where this diamond is from and what the cost was. Can someone remind me please how to find this diamond at the lowest price? As always, thank you all.

Loosegrown had it @ $1,112......but now they want $3,174....

Must be the PS bump :).... you need to move fast on these before lurkers grab em or the seller raises the price......

That’s what I saw and that’s why I was confused. Well Dan is getting this stone for me, and I told him about it when I was still $1112 so hopefully he’ll honor that price.

I had already paid Dan for a different diamond, and when he ordered it, he received the wrong one. I know he would refund my money, but at this point, it would just be easier to work with him. Plus $1400 is more than I want to spend. I would spend $1100, And I don’t know why he wouldn’t sell it to me at that price, since that’s the price it was when I talked to him about it Friday. And if it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out. I’ll just start over again and maybe you wonderful fabulous folks can give me new suggestions.

And maybe I wouldn’t even deal with a jeweler. I really can’t remember how I found Dan, but I certainly do have faith in him and if it doesn’t work out with this diamond that was $1112 on Friday, nor the original one I looked at for about $900, I’m sure Dan will refund my money. But if there’s truth to Pricescope chatter causing a bump in price, then for my next diamond, I’m just not going to wait any longer. Once one of you very knowledgeable folks tell me that you found a beautiful stone in my price range, I’m going to purchase it on the spot.

To everyone at Pricescope, especially Freddyboston, a heartfelt thank-you. Asking about my originally-selected CVD diamond was the smartest thing I did. Also having faith in Dan Moran from Concierge Diamonds, who came thru for me with flying colors. Dan was able to procure the stunning D-colored diamond at the original price. His supplier wanted the new, higher price, but Dan persisted and got it for the original asking price. And it’s being FedExed today and I should, God willing, have it by 10am EST Thursday.

Happy for you! Glad you didn’t end up paying the inflated price. Do you know how you’ll set it?

And thank you, DejaWiz, for your guidance. And thank you to everybody who read my posts and gave me their opinions and feedback. I can’t believe how well this is working out. I’m on the verge of tears of happiness.

I have my 1.5 carat diamond in a high set solitaire cathedral, and I’m hoping to reuse that. It’s a little dinged after 20+ years, but I’m hoping the jeweler could just take out the prongs and replaced them with one big enough to hold my new. soon-to-arrive diamond. Not sure if that’s possible though.

This is nearly identical to my setting. This one might be slightly higher. Hard to tell from the photo.IMG_0020.png

Eventually, I want to get two eternity bands that I would stack on top of each other, and then top with my new beautiful diamond. I’m very concerned about getting the portions of the stones in the eternity band right, to complement my new diamond. I also have a fondness for the digit 9, so I was thinking 0.09-sizes stones.

Dear PriceScopers, I received my beautiful diamond today and it is as stunning as Dan Moran from Concierge Diamonds assured me it would be. But as much as the diamond made jaw drop, I found out something just five minutes ago that made my jaw drop even more. Yesterday, Dan’s assistant called me to discuss logistics. So I assumed Dan had won the price-increase battle with his supplier. I just read an email today that Dan sent me yesterday that I had overlooked. Dan did NOT win the battle; the supplier insisted on the new higher price of $3000+. But Dan said he was a man of his word and he already promised the diamond to me and that was more important to him than the loss he would be taking. The reason I assumed Dan got the diamond for the original price is because I had figured if he couldn’t get it at the original price he would tell me that, and we would move onto the next stone. It NEVER occurred to me that he would take a loss for the purpose of honoring his word to me. I am flabbergasted. Truly flabbergasted at the way everything worked out so perfectly for me, thanks to everybody at Pricescope who guided me in this journey, and especially to Dan for absolutely doing the right thing. I cannot believe I ended up with this stunningly, beautiful, damn-near perfect diamond. And I cannot believe Dan did this for me.

I used to soak my natural diamond (set in platinum) and a mug of steaming hot water to which I added a couple drops of dawn, dish detergent, and a couple drops of ammonia. I just read that dish soap is not good for diamonds because it won’t do anything to clean the grease, which diamonds allegedly attract. Would you give me some suggestions on how to clean my stunningly beautiful new 2-carat GIA ex/ex AGA triple-0 LGD? THANK YOU ALL AGAIN.

Dawn dish soap and gently scrub with an infant/baby toothbrush - voila, grease and dust gone!

Hi DejaWiz, so despite my post mentioning that I read dish soap is not good for cleaning diamonds, you’re saying it’s fine? And should I omit ammonia? Just use Dawn dish soap and scrub with soft toothbrush? Thank you again for leading me to this beautiful diamond.

Non-ammonia, non-abrasive dish soap is fine :)

I am always very sceptical when vendors tell me that they have absorbed added costs in a sale and lost money in a transaction. But regardless, I’m very happy you got a great diamond! Please enjoy.

I have no skepticism whatsoever. I would again encourage anybody who has any jewelry needs, wherever in the United States you’re based , to contact Dan Moran at Concierge Diamonds. This afternoon I brought my new diamond to be set, and I grabbed a brochure from GIA that the jeweler had on his counter. The brochure states that diamonds form when atoms of carbon are exposed to high pressures and temperatures. So is that telling us that we should only purchase HTHP lab diamonds? Which are high temperature, high pressure, as far as I understand? As opposed to CVDs? I THINK I understand the concept of HTHP, and I KNOW for sure I don’t understand CVD.

But if I’m understanding this brochure correctly, HTHP lab diamonds would more closely replicate the way diamonds are created in nature. Please, as always, correct me if I’m mistaken. Thank you.

Many brands of dish soap will leave residue behind once rinsed off,
Dawn will not which is why its used in wildlife rescue.

HTHP is closer to the way mined diamonds are made than CVD rough;
Neither one is exactly the same and both can be used to produce beautiful diamonds once polished as can a combination of the two..

Thank you so much, Karl K. If I may, I have another question. I had my new 2-carat LGD diamond set tonight. It replaced my beautiful 1.5 carat mined diamond that I wore for 20 years. My 1.5 carat mined diamond cost $12,000. This 1.5-carat mined diamond was a replacement for my original diamond that I lost on my 1-year anniversary 21 years ago. My original diamond (the one I lost) , which cost $3000, was insured for its appraised value, which was $12,000. That’s how I ended up with my 1.5 carat mined diamond for $12,000. Anyway, when I brought my new 2-carat LGD to be set tonight I asked the jeweler what he would offer me for my 1.5 carat mined diamond, and he said possibly $6000. I think that’s a fantastic offer. And as much as my 1.5 carat diamond served me for 20 years, and I love her for that, I would trade her for $6000. Do you think this is a good deal? I appreciate your input. Thank you.

Post the grading report # of the stone you were offered 6k on,

I hope the report is attached. It’s GIA report number 13688236. But neither this attached report, nor the physical copy I have, shows the “drawing” of the diamonds with the proportions (table & depth %, etc.). And the jeweler said he would need to compare that info to my stone, but his best-guess amount he said he could maybe offer me is $6000. How do I get this information? Is that what’s on the dossier, as opposed to the report? The GIA report I just got on my new 2-carat diamond does show this info. Might you know why? Thank you.

Dear Freddyboston, how do I prevent this from happening again? I am now considering purchasing my mother a
1-carat lab-grown diamond to replace the one that was stolen from my apartment 35 years ago where, ironically, she used to keep it because she thought my apartment was safer than hers. (It was not insured. I remember very little about it, but it wasn’t a fabulous diamond or anything. It was an I remember very little about it, but it wasn’t a fabulous diamond or anything. It was a nice, simple solitaire that may have even been less than one carat. Anyway, she does not expect me to replace it, and never did expect me to replace it, but I always felt terrible that it was stolen. But now I’m concerned if I ask your opinions about a certain diamond, the same price hike will occur as what happened with my own 2 carat diamond. Should I Just work directly with Dan and not ask any of you fabulous Pricescope folks for opinions about particular stones?

I would cut out the middle man... really no need to use B+M place like Concierge if they are not offering selection help.....easiest thing is to just order a Deja Wiz / PS Community HPHT pick quickly from the best priced online vendor....

Dan would absolutely offer me selection help. Maybe that’s the route I should take? Just work with him and not ask PS-ers? Or is a 1-carat mined diamond not necessarily “worth it” for a B&M?

thats your call - he orig offered you a hazy CVD with poor symentry... Took me 5 seconds looking at the video spin to tell that one was no good and I'm not in the Jewelry trade.......

Chelsea Palmer you can approach it just like you did with your diamond: we'll find you some great ~1 carat options to pick from, then you ask Dan at CD which ones he can access and price match. Easy-peasy and you'll end up getting a stellar diamond for your mom. :)
What price cap are you thinking to stick to for the 1 carat diamond, and are you looking for another round brilliant?
